Summary: Da Bomb
Review: This movie is the best family movie ever! I love this movie and I really would love to have it but I can't have it. I reccommened this movie to everyone big or small.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Trite like Picasso is trite
Review: Folks, ignore the person who wrote something to the effect that October Sky was trite and predictable and that "...the film followed that same pattern we've all seen a hundred times before: poor boy from a dying town has a dream, and with the help of that one special teacher who makes him believe in himself...etc., etc., etc." Yeh, like we can ignore Picasso because we seen paintings of people a hundred times before. The fact that the movie's premise is so familiar and yet remains interesting, subtle, and inspirational, is all the more evidence for the talent of the filmmakers and lack of discernment among Academy members.

Summary: SIMPLY PUT: GREAT MOVIE!
Review: It's funny how Hollywood markets its products. Worthless trash movies like "American Pie" get millions of dollars' worth of advertising support and stay in theaters for weeks on end, while quality movies like "October Sky" get no advertising at all (that I recall) and stay in theaters probably less than a week. It's a shame that this movie didn't become the box office success it deserves to be.

I won't go into details about this movie, other reviewers here have already done that quite well and have provided all the information needed to make a decision about the film. But I'll quickly add my two cents' worth: rent it, buy it, do what you must to see it. It's worth it. A beautiful movie.

Summary: Inspiring and Uplifitng
Review: "I thought this was a very inspiring and uplifting film about holding on to your dreams and seeing them through. Finally we have a movie that promotes values and morality without making it too over dramatic, a film that shows that no matter what others may say, as long as you believe in yourself, you'll find a way to succeed.

Summary: Superb!
Review: This movie brings backs qualities that are absent in many of the movies of today. Strong characters, family values and individual hope. The movie will make you laugh and maybe make you cry. I found it refreshing and extremely entertaining. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a solid movie and best of all, it's based on a true story.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Good
Review: It was really good on the detail of the rockets and was very realistic for a person trying to do what they were doing, not suuped up like in a lot of the other movies.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Excellent Movie! Based on a true story in Wild Wonderful WV
Review: Based on a true story - from a tiny little coal town in WV. A boy and his friends set out to pursue they're hobby - model rocketry. But this isn't the proper thing for a young boy to be doin' in the coal fields of WV. Through many barriers, the boys - encouraged by their teacher... overcome the odds and break the coal mine oppression to go on to be part of the american space race.

Summary: "Sometimes a Dream is Enought to Light Up the Whole Sky"
Review: If you are in search of a movie that will capture you heart and allow it to soar, then October Sky is the movie for you. Jake Gyllenhaal (Home Hickam, Jr.) did a phenominal job of portraying a breath taking true character, the REAL Homer Hickam, Jr. His friends O'Dell, Roy Lee and Quinten add the perfect touch of humor and tears while the tension between father and son (Homer vs. Homer) succeeds in making people of all ages relate to a certain time in their life where they had a relationship was not all that it should have been. October Sky teaches and proves to never give up and to sometimes "listen to yourself and to no one else." A wonderful movie that deserves more stars than imaginable.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: The Right Stuff
Review: A great story about family, fathers, sons, teachers, and mostly, dreams.

One small criticism -- Laura Dern. Maybe by now she could afford some acting lessons.
