Summary: one of the greatest movie I have seen
Review: One the best movies in the history! As Larry King said "That will live in your memory forever"

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Tell your friends about this movie
Review: I'd seen the October Sky DVD at the local video store, but avoided it--I imagine because I didn't know much about it and because I'd read it was just a "family" movie and figured it wouldn't be very interesting. Well, I finally rented it, and now I see why so many of the reviewers here have raved about it. I won't go into the story--others here have. I'll just say that October Sky is simply a wonderful story, and it's very well told in this movie--script, direction, and cast are all first rate, the photography is beautiful, and the score evocative. It even captured our thirteen year old son's attention--not a small feat for a movie with a PG rating. My guess is you'll be thinking about Coalwood, West Virgina, and its people for a while after seeing this movie. (I should add I ended up buying both the DVD and Rocket Boys (also published as October Sky), the book on which the movie is based. The book is great, too.)

Summary: This movie deserves 1000+ stars!
Review: This movie is really touching. I heard about it and thought it sounded cheesy, but the first time I wacthed it, it made me cry because it is so believable and you can really relate to the characters! Jake Gyllenhaal (who is very fine and my favorite actor) plays Homer so well you'd think it was really him. And the Rocket Boys make a great team. I think Mrs. Hickam could have had a bigger say in everything, it wasn't until the very end that she came through and actually said her piece about what a jerk Mr. Hickam was being. The ending is pretty predictable but it is still a movie you need to watch all the way through. Laura Dern doesn't seem to fit as the teacher, but I cried just the same when she got sick. Teachers are definately an inspiration and helped Homer when he couldn't count on his parents. I would recommend this movie to anyone. Parents don't have to be afraid for their kids to watch, it is a family movie and totally clean. There are a few swear words (hence the PG rating) but really nothing bad. A movie everyone of any age should watch, it has a great lesson and any one can relate to it.

Review: This film is a thought provoking and deeply inspiring ride into the not so distant past. Absolutely recommended. Buy it and watch it again and again.

Summary: My favorite Movie!
Review: I have watched this movie many times and it makes me cry every time! I love this movie. The story is so real and the characters make you feel like you know them (and like you just want to punch Mr. Hickam). It makes me bawl when Homer must leave school and goes to work in the mines. This movie is even better because it is true. And I really love it because Jake Gyllenhaal (Homer) is my favorite actor, he's so CUTE! Anyone who grew up in this time and anyone who is interested in Space, the Spootnik, NASA, or just ANYONE, should definately see this movie.

Summary: coal miner reviews
Review: I am a coal miner and have been for many years. I grew up during the same time period as the movie and lived and worked in the coal camps portrayed . I am also an avid movie watcher and "OCTOBER SKY" is by far one of the best movies of all time. It is probably one of my top five favorites and I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a heartwarming, true to life movie. The characters, language, scenery and incidents are impeccable. Would'nt change a thing. The movie didn't play in my area so I drove about 75 miles to Charleston just to see it and I wasn't disappointed. TWO THUMBS UP!

Summary: Incredible
Review: October Sky didn't even find its way to the small theater in my town, so I figured the movie wasn't really worth seeing. When it was available for rental, I rented it and was totally suprised. This movie was INCREDIBLE. The plot is very well written, and it's a very touching story. (I found myself almost crying several times.) October Sky is a story about sucess, failures, dreams, and family pride. I would call it one of the best movies of the 1990s.

Summary: Simply a wonderful movie
Review: I saw this movie on the trop from Switzerland to the USA and it did certainly shorten the long flight :-) It's a wonderfully entertaining movie, showing us the beginning of the new age of the sixties and the dreams of young people of that time that finally led us to the exploration of space...

Summary: Probably the first TRUE family movie I've ever seen
Review: In saying this is the first true family video I've seen, I mean a video that is not just for kids, but is one that the entire family can not only tolerate, but love. Recently, myself, my husband, another couple, their 2 kids ages 12 and 10 and my son age 5 all watched this movie. Each and every one of us loved it. The message and the story will stay with us for years to come. The husband of the other couple is from West Virginia, where this movie is set, and both his grandparents were coal miners. He said the setting and the details were incredibly accurate. Every bit of acting was right on target. The fact that this is a true story, and the pictures and stories at the end of what happened to all the characters, made this even more moving. I remember reading about this movie and thinking it didn't really sound that interesting, and not really wanting to see it, but I was certainly wrong. Don't make the mistake I almost did--don't miss this.
