Summary: BIG Dr. Suess & Jim Carrey Fan
Review: I LOVED the original Suess cartoon The Grinch. I have watched it every Christmas Eve for as long as I can remember. The music, the animation, the voices, the story... EVERYTHING was great!

I am also a big fan of Jim Carrey since he was In Living Color. I own most of his movies and love him as an actor/comedian.

This combination was supposed to WORK!!! It had the production money, the right costumes, the right actors, and the right direction, but there was something missing. Carrey's voice was nowhere near as good as he is capable of. The story was changed around quite a bit. The narrator's voice was off. The whole thing just reeked of "Not Dr. Suess". If you want a good movie, get the original cartoon, and Carrey's Truman Show or Me, Myself, & Irene. Sometimes you can't combine two great things successfully...

Summary: Not Seuss at all!!!
Review: When I first saw the ads for this film, I thought that Jim Carrey's make-up job was stupendous, and I still do. He certainly looks the part. No doubt about it. But that's where it ends. This film really hurts, and Ron Howard's vision of what the Grinch was supposed to be, or maybe what Jim Carrey thought the Grinch should be, is far different from Dr. Seuss. The Grinch didn't use gutter language, or fart, or have the "hots" for Cindy Who, or all the other typical Jim Carreyism stuff which he pans off for talent. Don't waste your money on this one or even your time. I recommend the original. This one is a sorry loser. Appearances can be deceiving.

Summary: A Must Have Holiday Movie
Review: "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" is one of those animated classics you watch every chirstmas to put you in the holiday spirit, or at least I do. "The Grinch" with Jim Carrey is definately one movie I will add to my list of must watch christmas movies (gotta love "National Lampoons Christmas Vacation")
"The Grinch" has a different story line than the original to keep your intrest yet it keeps the same philosopy so you still have the sence of the old one.
The people and their hair and clothes are amazing. The houses and all the props are done well and artisticly. I could watch the movie on mute just to see this but of course there are so many good lines to laugh at you can't do that.
Bottom line 1-like Jim Carrey? 2-like the original grinch? 3-want a funny clean christmas movie? yes yes and yes = a must buy!

Summary: How the Grinch entertained millions
Review: What holiday cartoon is more classic than "How the Grinch Stole Christmas?" Not many, if any. After watching the unforgettable short cartoon for year after year and never getting tired of it even though I knew exactly what was going to happen next, I was more than thrilled about hearing the news that a live-action movie of "The Grinch" was finally on its way.

The Grinch is a strange sort of character. He's a green, hairy creature who seems to only like his pet dog and his favorite hobby: hating Christmas with a passion. It doesn't seem easy being green, indeed. Haven't you ever wondered exactly why the Grinch hates Christmas? Have you ever wondered what is inside the creature's cave and how he spends all his time?

"The Grinch" is a VERY entertaining movie from start to finish, and in my book it's a holiday classic! It has good effects, the storyline follows that of the book and cartoon (and then some), and best of all, the Grinch is thoroughly interesting and entertaining (to say the least!). There couldn't have been a better actor to play as the green monster than Jim Carrey. He's here to make you laugh with his usual antics and he even makes the story almost believable with his evilness and mischievous views toward the greatest holiday of the year.

I rented "The Grinch" and I could tell from the very start that it would end up being a favorite. Get this, when I rented it, I watched it three times before I returned it. There are not many movies that I rent that I'll even think about watching more than once; I liked it that much. Now that I own it, I still watch it frequently. It's not only one of the best movies to watch during the Christmas holidays, it's a great movie to watch any day of the year. Also, it's not just a movie for kids; it's a movie for all ages, especially for those who like comedy movies that are chock full of hilarious parts.

So do yourself and your family a favor and don't just rent the movie, purchase it. Right now!

Summary: The cartoon version is better
Review: This was a movie with people including Jim Carrey. It should not be confused with the 1966 TV special. It is longer than an hour and contains NO animation. If you prefer cartoon movies over movies with people- DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS ONE!

Summary: The grinch....
Review: I could watch it over and over just for the costumes and hair styles and all the other crazy Who things. The original cartoon grinch is a different story than this one although the same idea. Excellent children/teen's movie. WIth Jim Carey as the grinch you'll be laughing and with Little Cindy Lou Who trying to bring the grinch back inot the chistmas spirit you will be touched by her heart and spirit in the story. I would say one of the best christmas based stories to come out in years.

Summary: KINDA SCARY FOR THE SEASON
Review: Is the DVD different than the VHS? Tell me and I'll purchase the VHS. Every review that was negative seemed to have the Dvd version at the end of the review. I purchased the grinch because I have always loved the Grinch and Cindy Lou Who. I could not get through a Christmas season without my boys and myself sitting down to watch the animated version at least a dozen times! It's short, sweet and gets the point across to even the smallest tykes. This movie? Keep in mind that I love both Jim Carrey and Ron Howard please! It scared even me...my seven and one+ year old slept with mom and dad for a WEEK. It did not even come close to putting me in the Christmas spirit. It would have been a better Halloween movie. Forgive me Jim and Ron, but this movie is just not "Christmasy" at all......It was kinda weird, and Jim Carrey may have been a bit too weird - he does tend to go overboard on the seriously odd .......I returned my copy and now will only stick to the wonderful, magical and captivating animated Grinch......No amount of makeup or special effects could ever come close!

Summary: works for the whole family
Review: I have a child who is a.d.h.d. and there is only a handful of things that keep his attention and the grinch is one of those items. if i need to get something done, he is being bad, or has done something good, i put the grinch in and he sits right down. i do recommend anyone with a young child who has a.d.h.d to spend the money.

Summary: A huge disappointment...
Review: What can I add to what's already been said about this film? Either you like it or you don't, but I found it to be a huge disappointment.

Jim Carrey thrives in Hollywood apparently because some segment of the population finds his brand of humor appealing. On the contrary, I find that what was once mildly funny at best is now old and tiresome, and the Grinch outfit and make-up do little to hide Carrey playing the only character he apparently knows how to play.

It might be easy to overlook Carrey's lack of depth as an actor if it weren't for the fact that the screenplay was so uninteresting. What made Seuss' stories so engaging was his unique mastery of the language and his "out there" creativity in doing so. Virtually all of that is lost here. When you strip Seuss' work of the creativity and imagination, no amount of make-up or Hollywood special effects can close the gap.

So what do we have left? A movie that's beautiful to look at, with marvels of technology at every turn -- and not much (if any) substance. In short, a huge disappointment.
