Summary: A good comedy, a good film for all ages, an ok Carrey film..
Review: Well, this film is not as "good" as it could of been. The film it self was still prettygood, having Carrey playing in a role he never has hadbefore. The...The...The...GRINCH!

This remake of a classic,"Dr. Seuss': How the Grinch Stole Christmas", starring JimCarrey, a comical idol of mine. Molly Shannon plays Betty Lou Who,mother of the second star of this film, Christine Baranski, Martha MayWho. What is this film about? Is it like the original, or is just aremake that is nothing like original? Does it stray from its realroots to satisfiy the thirst of today? Well I can say, yes and no. Thefilm has the beauty and warmth of the first with a 2k upgrade. Thisfilm does not suceed the first, though neither does that one. I thinkthey are just about equal.

I would suggest this to anyone with anopen mind and can appreciate a type of change. Try it, it may just bethe movie of the Christmas season. It will most likely not get anyawards, sorry Jim, not your fault.

Summary: Wonderful Holiday Fare
Review: First of all, let's get the inevitable out of the way... This is NOT the beloved Chuck Jones cartoon everyone grew up with. No one set out to make that film... No one set out to destroy it, either. This grinch flick is it's own... er... animal. Using the original tale as the guideline, Ron Howard's big-budget event movie is more the story of How the Grinch Became Grinchey. Taken on that level, it works well.

The story's plot centers around the charming Cindy Lou Who's search to find Christmas. Surrounded by a Whoville filled with shoppers and decorators, Cindy feels empty about the holidays. The only other Who that shares her distaste for avarice is none other than the green, grouchy resident of Mt. Crumpit. Her investigations lead her to the Grinch, and becomes the catalyst for the Grinch's journey back to Who-dom.

Some may find the back story disrespectful to the original tale, but I did not. In fact, I feel this movie could not have been made without this fleshing out of the characters. Those who disagree should know that Dr. Seuss' widow had FULL approval on the final product, and she is very proud of what has been done.

This movie is irreverently funny, but Jim Carrey's massive abilities pull off the Grinch's transformation. I was surprised that a film that broke the fourth wall so often could be so charming. But you really believe in the characters, and you cheer for them as they realize the true meaning of Christmas.

Those looking for solid holiday fun would do well with this movie... It's a magical, imaginative, colorful, and lushly scored work of art. Take the kids... though there is two or three unnecessary bathroom jokes to beware of... and enjoy the holiday season.

Summary: The negative reviews of this movie mystify me
Review: I am not a fan of most big-budget, overly-merchandised, hype-machine, star-actor, American movies. That said, I found The Grinch to be quite a fun movie, as did 9/10 of the crowd who attended the pre-screening.

What is NOT to like? You already know the story, you know the live-action method it's being presented in, you know Jim Carrey is going to do everything short of jumping out of his own skin to get a laugh... where's the flaw? There really is none. It is a movie that both kids and adults can watch, and I was surprised at how little it pandered to the kiddie market. It added some background story as to why the Grinch hates Xmas (hint: love interest) as well as a look at the Grinch's almost BatCave-esque lair. But it also stuck faithfully to the storyline, from the single antler on top of Max's head, to the method in which The Grinch ransacks the town on Xmas.

Ron Howard could have made the mistake of trying to make The Grinch too much of a standard Hollywood overblown circus, but wisely kept the camera on Jim Carrey and Taylor Momsen (Cindy Lou Who) and left most of the others out of it. And for the record, Momsen gets much credit for being cute without being sugary or insufferable. The sets were very bombastic and colorful, and the film was chock full of little effects and touches that reminded you how well the movie follows the original 22-minute television cartoon.

To sum it up: this movie was FUN. Not Shakespeare, not a dramatic re-write, or a shameless retread. It succeeds at being a movie that is simply a fun, guilt-free pleasure to watch.

Summary: Did we really need a remake?
Review: I went into this movie with high hopes. I loved the original animated film/book and I wanted this to be good. And this film is visually beautiful. Unfortunately, there is not enough for a 2 hour movie and the film makers ignored that. It was too long, crass, simplistic, boring, and insulting to Dr. Seuss. The casting of Jim Carrey was wrong. He seems unable to be anyone but himself, although he did at times sound like he was possessed by Sean Connery and W.C. Fields. Ron Howard could not (or would not) reign him in and consequently Carrey was over the top and completely unbelievable as the Grinch. The rest of the cast was fine, but they didn't have a lot to work with. The addition of the sub-plot was unnecessary, as was the pseudo-Seuss narration.

I wish that Tim Burton had been given the chance to direct this film (maybe he was and wisely turned it down). In his hands, it may have stood a chance. The only bright spot in an otherwise dismal film was Max the dog. He stole every scene he was in.

Summary: The, The , The , The GRINCH!
Review: The Grinch, whose heart is 3 sizes too small, sneaks into Whoville disguised as Santa Claus and steals all of their toys. Why would he do such a thing? He's a mean one...

Summary: Loved it!
Review: I really liked it a lot! I watch the original cartoon every Chrsitmas and I've read the book to my little brother. This is a really cute movie I would definitly reccomend. I think the Grinch's cold hearted spirit is captured really well (until he turns good that is). Some people don't like this and feel it ruined the Grinch because it's not strictly to the book, but what do you expect? The book wasn't very long. It can be read in about five minutes more or less...

Anyway I do suggest you watch this provided you aren't one of those affor mentioned people that freak out over every little thing. I do NOT reccomend the Cat in the Hat movie. I thought that movie seemed too much like Austin Powers in a cat suit to tell the truth,

Summary: A big disappointment!
Review: This movie, which was painful to view especially with my 7 year old present, totally destroyed the spirit of Dr. Seuss. In his book the Grinch was a Grumpy old person who just wanted in the end that the people like him. In this dark comedy we get a vicious beast that tries to kill a little girl without a thought. The same beast is sought after by a sex craved woman.

The director tried to rip off the Munchkin Land (a la Wizard of Oz) look of the town and does a real poor job of it. There is a lot of camp in this movie which is really poor quality (maybe the director should have watched some old Batman on TV to find out how to get it right).

If you are taking the kids I suggest Rugrats in Paris which is a thoroughly entertaining film for both children and adults. It is also one that you can feel safe taking the smaller kids to unlike this muddled affair.

Summary: Was This Even Necessary?
Review: The original Dr. Seuss Story on How The Grinch Stole Christmas was a mere half hour cartoon. The original cartoon version kept it simple without any extended sidebars and remains more successful.

Ron Howard tries to exaggerate this story and more or less fails quite miserably. Jim Carrey tries his best but even he comes up short with his over-exaggerated antics. The other actors and actresses in Whoville just sit there and take up space. They just all look like a bunch of wierdos without adding an ounce of humor in this attempt at making a childhood story into an adult oriented comedy. Truthfully I wonder if this movie should have ever been made. Its not a children's tale with its crass language and scenes. And the humor is so cheap that any normal adult would find it sophmoric if not downright stupid.

If you like a good Christmas fable, seek out the original cartoon. This mess of a movie just does not cut the mustard.

Summary: Man this movie's funny
Review: Jim Carrey does a remarkable job as the Grinch. The movie has some great visual effects. The plot wasn't great but for this kind of a movie when you have so little and have to make it into a film, it worked perfectly. This is one of the funniest movies I have ever seen and I highly recommend it.
