Summary: Great
Review: I was so disappointed when I walked out of The Grinch because it was so good and it got horrible reviews. The movie is pretty honest to the book by our late Dr. Seuss and the acting was superb.

Jim Carrey was phenomanal as he played one of the most hated characters Dr. Seuss ever brought us. The young little girl that played Cindy (forgot her name) was absoleutly magnificent. And of course all of the other Who's were great just as equal to Cindy and The Grinch. Molly Shannon also had the role in this film as Cindy's mother. I also think that Max the dog was a great add on to this film.

I can't help but say how good the makeup was. The makeup artists did a great job and should be nominated for some award. The noses of all the Who's were superb as well as other facial features. Jim Carrey looked superb. His costume was great and the makeup for him was fabulous. He looked like the real thing out of the story book if not better.

So, The Grinch is a great holiday film that will be truly anjoyed by all humans and Who's. Be sure to catch this flick before it leaves theaters. Enjoy.

HAPPY VIEWING!

Summary: I want a green Christmas!
Review: This movie was just great!! It told the story of the Grinch in a way that was respectful of the original, yet built on it in a way that gave it more background and history. And it didn't seem at all like the director was trying to copy the old version. The movie was cute and funny without too much crude humor or gross-outs. And your heart will grow right along with the Grinch's when he realizes what Christmas is really about. If you can suspend your disbelief and try not to compare this film to the cartoon or the book (and remember that the cartoon was panned when it first came out too and now it's a Christmas Gem) then you'll find that it's so easy to enjoy. Jim Carrey is amazing. Hardly for a moment do you think to yourself, "That's Jim Carrey in a costume." He simply BECOMES the Grinch himself! The music is beautiful and always appropriate for the moment. Please give this wonderful movie a chance and try to see it for what it is... a fun, holiday movie that will renew your Christmas spirit and make you smile. And if you think only kids and mom's will enjoy it, think again! I'm 18 years old and went to see it by meyself and now it's my favorite movie :)

Summary: Carrey Steals Christmas
Review: Most people will say that they hated this film. It was too simple. Carrey was a horrible choice. It was too long and too boring. I disagree. I sat down to watch this movie and from the opening credits I couldn't stop laughing. Jim Carrey was the ultimate choice to play the Grinch and he pulled it off fabulously. To me, the supporting characters in the movie helped it out as well. But the one thing that slayed me was when the Grinch does a impersonation of Ron Howard. I couldn't stop laughing. Visually, this movie was gorgeous. The sets were well thought out, stunningly full of brilliant color, and fun to watch. Anyone wanting a good family film, or just a really fun movie to sit back and enjoy should see this movie.

Summary: Stop cutting this movie down!
Review: I just saw this movie last night, and I must say I am very impressed. The story follows almost exactly with the original, only it gives more background info about the grinch and why he is so grumpy. The visuals are breathtaking as well as the performance of Jim Carrey as the Grinch. Jim does a superb job that very few other people could do as the grinch. Go see this movie, it is a must see!

Summary: Wonderful movie!
Review: Ron Howard's remake of "The Grinch" has to be an instant holiday classic! Jim Carrey did a wonderful job with his portrayal of everyone's favorite Christmas character! The visuals and the set pieces of Whoville made the movie even more stunning. Sure to be a movie that kids and adults will love for generations to come! I also liked how the film portrayed the Grinch as a child, and the events leading up to the films finale. Wonderful in every way!

Summary: How the Grinch Stole My Heart ;)
Review: I saw this movie twice in the past week, and I loved it both times. Although it has no basis in reality, or a ton of character development, I felt that this was a funny, heartwarming film. It was funny, but also touching, when they did the flashback to the Grinch's childhood. I think if they'd made the Grinch less of a caricature, and more human, it would have worked better. Nevertheless, this movie was a sight for sore eyes, something I'd love to watch over and over. Jim Carrey is HILARIOUS as the Grinch and, for once, didn't make me want to wretch... Cindy Lou Who is the idealistic child in all of us that we lose when we reach our pre-teen years... detatch yourself from the real world and watch this movie. This movie rocks!

Summary: "THE GRINCH" is a new holiday classic!
Review: The new film version of the classic tale "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" has gotten mixed reviews. I went in with my hopes down, not excited by the frenzied trailers and reading comments like "gross out humor" and "charmless"...

In the week that it's been out, I've seen it twice and I'm going back a third time after Thanksgiving dinner...

When all is said and done, "The Grinch" is a wonderful movie; true to the original while taking justified liberties and expanding it, and maybe providing it's own, new unique riches the book and the animated version don't have. This film has been quite unfairly lambasted and compared. I'm sure no one will argue that Charles Dicken's "A Christmas Carol" is more of a classic than "The Grinch," How many versions of THAT do we have? With how many variations and elaborations, from Bill Murry to Mr. MaGoo?

Taken on it's own terms, "The Grinch" is a new holiday classic, hillarious and moving. Jim Carrey is magnificant; absolutely hillarious while always portraying the Grinch as a three-dimensional character, one who (believe it or not) is a grown child nursing a long buried wound. When it comes time to bring that wound to the surface and heal, it's a perfect and moving combination of Carrey, Ron Howard's direction and James Horner's score. Carrey, I think, deserves an Oscar nomination.

Visually inventive, wonderfully acted, it is the best fantasy film in a long time.

A Christmas movie that makes you laugh so hard so consistantly and then move you to tears by the end? Bah Humbug, critics and nay-sayers. A new classic for all ages, for all time.

Summary: THE BEST MOVIE IN THE WORLD EVER SEEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: In the whimsical town of Whoville, all the Whos liked Christmas a lot. But just north of Whoville lived the Grinch and his dog, Max. The Grinch detested and despised Christmas! Starring down at Whoville, where happy Whos scurried here and there, he bristled. "This whole Christmas season is stupid!" Meanwhile in Whoville, postmaster Lou Lou Who was purchasing presents with his five- year- old Who, Cindy Lou Who. Lou purchased 2 snoozlephones for Cindy's 2 brothers. He also grabbed gifts for Who- aunts, uncles, and cousins. But this little sweet tot was puzzled. Was all this really Christmas? Then, whi should the father and girl meet than teenaged Whos Christina, Stu, Junie, and Drew. The four teens told a terrifying tale. They had been exploring Mount Crumpit, and the Grinch himself had scared them silly! Cindy's eyes opened wide. "Why won't anyone talk about the Grinch?"

Summary: Carrey IS "The Grinch"
Review: When such an eagerly awaited, highly anticipated movie like this comes along, you have to ask yourself, can any film live up to the hype? Well, the answer in this case is, You Bet It Can. Resoundingly. "How The Grinch Stole Christmas," directed by Ron Howard and starring Jim Carrey, is a triumph to be embraced by the ages. It's a warm and touching, funny and highly entertaining piece of film making, satisfyingly brought to fruition by Howard, seemingly the perfect choice to direct such a vehicle as this. But make no mistake about it, this movie belongs to Jim Carrey, who was born to play this part. Nobody, but NOBODY, could have pulled this off better than Carrey. It's a dazzling demonstration of his talents; he has all the tools and uses every one of them in bringing the Grinch to life. From the Sean Connery voice he affects, to the physical bits he manages, to the exceptional costuming and makeup that help make it all fly, it's an exemplary performance in every way. Amazingly enough, there's no trace of Jim Carrey left here; he manages to disappear totally into the character, a transformation so complete that what you see is pure Grinch from the inside out. He pulls out all the stops and lets himself go with it, without ever taking it too far over the top. Howard, who obviously knew exactly what he wanted from his star, must get some credit as well for keeping the naturally exuberant Carrey on track, while allowing him to find his own comfort zone that made it all work. Howard uses a gentle touch with the film, letting the natural humor work on it's own without ever forcing it, while infusing some sly, subtle comedic bits that work well and keep it all from slipping into anything sappy or pretentious. It's a feel-good film without the maudlin overtones to which so many other films of this nature have succumbed over the years. And what a credit this is to the versatility of Howard, who proves here that he can take you into outer space or to "Whoville" with equal alacrity and expertise. The supporting cast includes Christine Baranski, who turns in a wickedly funny performance as Martha May Who-vier; Jeffrey Tambor (Mayor of Whoville); Molly Shannon (Betty Lou-Who); Josh Ryan Evans (8 Year Old Grinch); Taylor Momsen (Little Cindy Lou-Who); Bill Irwin (Lou Lou-Who); and Clint Howard (Whobris). With "How The Grinch Stole Christmas," Howard and Carrey have provided us with an instant classic; a delightful film with a lot of heart that is thoroughly entertaining from beginning to end. A great way to kick off the holiday season, this movie is destined to become an annual tradition with audiences everywhere. In the end, this is what movies are all about: Pure Magic.

Summary: Not Dr. Suess' Grinch
Review: They've taken a wonderful short children's story and blown it up into an effects-laden, multi-million-dollar spectacle that tries way too hard to be cute. I can't think of a more appropriate example of the crass consumerism that this film claims to decry. The Grinch's backstory, which includes a love interest and glimpses of his childhood, is bizarre and unnecessary. They didn't need to explain why the Grinch is so mean. We already know--his heart is three sizes too small! In this version, the Whos are petty, acquisitive clowns and Cindy Lou Who is a cute, precocious child with an important lesson to teach all the adults. I hate cute, precocious child characters. Does that make me a Grinch?

I give it two stars because Jim Carrey is typically excellent beneath all that make-up.
