Summary: I want my money BACK!!!
Review: I just bought the video of How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and all I can say is I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!! This is the worst movie I have ever seen. I was horrified by the entire movie. It was like the Mask only with a Christmas theme and no gangsters. This is a shining example of everything that is wrong with Hollywood. A big budget and scads of special effects do NOT make a good movie. In this case it didn't even make a decent movie. This movie lacked all the charm, humor, and fun of the original. It is by no means endearing as the original is and always will be. And the original, made with the simplest, purest, truest form of animation will remain beloved and treasured while I would like to fling my copy of the new one into a toxic waste dump. I am sure that Dr. Seuss is rolling over in his grave. My kids weren't even mildly humored by this movie. I gave this movie one star because there is no option to give it the big NONE that it deserves.

Summary: The Obnoxious Grinch
Review: I just wanted to comment on the reviewer from Portland Maine...

It appears that you have totally missed the entire point of the story line...

THE GRINCH IS TOTALLY OBNOXIOUS - Full of himself, nasty, mean, and everything that Jim Carrey is (not mean, nasty) that is the whole idea...Did you not see or read the Dr. Seuss original book or movie???

I don't particularly care for Jim Carrey in any way manner shape or form..But I think that he was extremely well casted and perfect for the role...

The staging, lighting, special effects, music, scenery, colors, colors, and colors were great...This is an extremely entertaining, and well suited family movie...

Summary: The Grinch
Review: I just have to say that after reading the other reviews posted here I felt someone should take up for this movie. I took my children to see it and we all absolutely loved it. I don't think there is another person alive that could have done a better job at being "the grinch" Jim Carrey was awesome. I just can't wait to purchase my own tape. It will be one Christmas movie that will be played over and over every year along with my other favorites.

Summary: Watch This Movie!
Review: In response to some comments I've seen about this movie. I would like to defend it, and tell everyone if they don't buy it- to at least rent it. It is a funny, family movie. In response to everyone that has put this movie, and others down because they didn't like the humor in it, or thought it wasn't good for children- have a little fun. There is nothing wrong with this movie. It's a movie, and if you raise your kids right one movie will not make a difference in their morals or values. Laugh! Have fun!

Summary: not the best I've seen but good.
Review: I think the movie was pretty good. There were times when Jim Carrey got a little crude but that doesn't suprise me. This movie was definatly targeted to adults more than kids. People that had grown up with the movie. I don't think that they needed to have that whole love thing going on between the grinch and the girl but all in all I think it was a good movie. They were very accurate to the book. I was very impressed that they used all the same lines from the original one. I loved all the sets I think that if "whoville" was real that is what it would look like. I think its a good movie and I'll definatly add it to my collection.

Summary: RON HOWARD DOES GOOD ON GRINCH, HOWEVER.....
Review: The live version of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is a childrens delight when it comes to Art Direction, Scenery, etc., however the movies misses quite a few items from the cartoon.

The dog that they had played Grinchs family friend is totally the opposite of the cartoon, they needed a wired-haired dachshund or a beagle to play the part.

The movie misses on getting to know the characters of Whoville, hardly ever going into their homes and see how they really live, and they rush past the storyline when Grinch steals everything in Cindy Lou Whos home. Cindy had brothers and sisters, and in the movie she is a lonely child.

The movie is a art direction marvel to look at, and Jim Carrey is excellent as the Grinch, as is Christine Baranski, Molly Shannon and Jeffrey Tambor as the Mayor of Whoville.

However for a 2 hour movie it doesn't delve into the Whoville world like the 30 minute cartoon....and why? especially when they have more film time.

For children it is a fun movie, just for me growing up on "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" it just misses a beat.

They didn't even sing around Whoville long enough after everything was missing, and that was my favorite song from the cartoon.

Still a cute movie, but as Hollywood goes they always have to change something.
