Summary: Very cute movie!
Review: I thought that Ron Howard's vision and version of the cartoon, "The Grinch" was wonderful. The art of the backrounds were pretty close to the caroon and the costumes were excellent. This film is great for all ages because it's pretty clean, language and situation wise. People tended to give this film a low rating becuase they are too critical. It's just a movie! I recommend this film to anybody. The narration by Anthony Hopkins adds some warmth to it.

Summary: Worth renting, but original cartoon is better overall.
Review: Well, I never saw it at the theater, the preview certainly didn't inspire me. My wife came back from Blockbuster with it this past weekend and the whole family watched it (DVD). My two kids (6 & 8) enjoyed it and I guess we all enjoyed it overall. I would just say that the gross humor was not needed as usual and the story was dragged out too much. I didn't like the parts where the Grinch came in disguise and wrecked stuff and I didn't like it very much either with his visit for the special celebration. I dunno, they just changed too much and the movie wasn't heppy feeling, it was kinda dark and I actually felt a little depressed afterward, even though the ending seemed happy at the end. The DVD extras are OK, but nothing great, especially the deleted scenes, a waste. So, as my review title states, it's worth renting, but I don't think I'd buy it or watch it again. I do however, own the cartoon and we watch that a number of times each year!

Summary: This is NOT Dr. Suess!
Review: It's sad to think how they ruined the original Grinch. Well, they didn't exactly ruin it...but this movie is so bad! There are a few funny parts and that's it. There was WAY too much big fancy scenery that was supposed to make up for the pathetic storyline. Sorry, it DOESN'T. The story was all wrong. The Grinch is NOT a who. He didn't go to school with the who children, he didn't have a crush on Martha May...it's all (***) up! Cindy Lou has no bigger role than the little kid who catches Grinch with the tree and asks for some water. She doesn't go into his house and invite him to be Holiday Cheermeister. You CANNOT make a good movie out of a short cartoon. The cartoon will ALWAYS be better. Virtually the only positive aspect of this is Max, but all he does is sit there and be cute. He doesn't even pull the sled when the horrible plot FINALLY gets around to showing us the Grinch stealing Christmas. What is the meaning of this, the entertainment value, the moral? The original cartoon conveyed all of that clearly and perfectly. All this does is stretch it into a boring, rehashed, false mess. I can't believe there was such a big deal made over the movie. It deserves none of that popularity and hype. It disappointed me greatly, but then, I don't suppose it COULD have met my expectations, because like I said, you just CAN'T take the classic, add some stupid new crap to it, turn the Grinch into this guy he's not (he acts too cool and not grouchy enough), and say, "HEY! We made a terrific film here! People'll watch this for years!" Pitiful how they so often think that will happen and it fails. When will the movie-makers learn?

Summary: THE BEST CHRISTMAS MOVIE EVER!
Review: THIS MOVIE WAS GREAT! I REALLY LIKED EVERY THING IN THIS MOVIE, EXCEPT FOR THE SCENE WHERE THE GRINCH WAS A KID AND ALL THE OTHER KIDS MADE FUN OF HIM, I THOUGHT SHOULDN'T HAVE BEEN PUT IN THE MOVIE, BUT OTHER THAN THAT, I'M GLAD THEY EXPLAINED WHY HE HATES CHRISTMAS. I'M A GREAT FAN OF THE GRINCH CARTOON AND I LOVED THE MOVIE EVEN BETTER THAN THE CARTOON. LAST YEAR I WATCHED THE GRINCH CARTOON EVERY DAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS AND WHEN I SAW THE MOVIE I REALLY LIKED IT. I LIKED THE PART WHEN THE GRINCH IS IN THE BACK ROOM OF THE POST OFFICE PUTTING EVICTION NOTICES, CHAIN LETTERS AND JURY DUTY LETTERS IN THE WHO'S LETTER SLOTS

Summary: Poor Dr. Seuss
Review: I loved the book and the cartoon of the Grinch. I HATED this movie. I stared at my watch and hoped it would end. We were with friends and couldn't leave the theatre. I would strongly recommend renting this before buying it if you haven't seen it.

Summary: Grinch
Review: It's not the Grinch story most of us remember from the past, the Dr. Seuss version, but this is still an excellent movie. It doesn't detract from the Seuss version, nor does the Seuss version detract from the movie; rather, they compliment each other, I think. My Mom actually bought this movie for my children, but my husband and I enjoyed it just as much as the children.

Summary: absolutely histerical!
Review: When I first saw "the Grinch" at the theatures, I couldn't wait until it came out on video. Not surprizingly, when we went to rent it, all the copies were long-gone. So we bought it instead. I come from a family of 10, and allthough there is one objectional moment in the film, our entire family enjoys every second. As a writer, I can not say that the diolouge is anything to scream about. However, Hollywood viewers have been suffering through movies that focus on action sequences and pretty girls instead of comendable diolouge, for many years. Even with all of the problems that so many critiques have pointed out concerning this film, I think we should give Jim Carrey a nod of recognition for his absolutely stunning performance. He makes the movie what it is. It's a pleasure to watch him because today's movie stars are not actors, only models of fake perfection. SO I suggest you go out and buy "the Grinch" right now - it's a reall treat. Thanks for reading!

Summary: YOU BETTER WATCH OUT!
Review: The Grinch is a wonderful film for children of all ages. Not only is it a funny holiday film it will also fill the hearts of grinches, Scrooges and Jeremey Creeks everywhere. Jim Carrey's crazy antics keep this film alive in our hearts. Maybe it doesn't follow the story but hey people would hate a film about a monster stealing Christmas for seventy five minutes then it would be a stinker. Parents if your kids love Christmas films and Jim Carrey then buy it and put it under the tree this Christmas.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Worst Ron Howard movie ever!
Review: I generally like Ron Howard as a director, but boy did he strike out with this stinker. "The Grinch" is just awful! Jim Carrey's muggings garner a few half-hearted chuckles, but the movie is so pointless, plotless, and heartless that all of Mr. Carrey's considerable talents as a comic actor cannot save it. Of course, the butchery of Dr. Seuss' wonderful tale and the Chuck Jones animated feature is quite disturbing to witness.

Its creators threw everything but the kitchen sink into this movie, but left out THE crucial part of Dr. Seuss' story- its Christianity. When all the Whos gather in Whoville to sing "Welcome Christmas" a star rises above them- a clear reference that Christ's birth is the point of Christmas. However, Opie Cunngingham and his gang made sure that "The Grinch" contained no politically incorrect references to Christianity or religion, and thus stripped the story of its spiritual element. So the viewer gets a crassly commerical and spiritually empty movie, which is ironically just the sort of thing Dr. Seuss was trying to show what is wrong with Christmas.

Summary: Dr. Suess's classic portrayed badly.
Review: "The Grinch" offers very little to the audience other than overwhelming visual candy.

A few comments:
~ Many people went to the movie to see Jim Carey. Unfortunately that is all the audience saw in the Grinch, Jim Carey. The producers let Carey use too much of his own persona which only served to overshadow the character of the Grinch.
~ The movie relied too much on visual tricks and make-up versus a solid script and plot, this immensely takes away from the storyline.
~ I highly doubt that Dr. Suess intended for the story to contain gross humor i.e. belching, farting, etc...

Overall, I found the movie to be less than appealing.

Take your family out to a different movie, your time will be better spent.
