Summary: Ugh!
Review:

"How the Grinch Stole Christmas" is a classic story by the master storyteller Dr. Seuss. It has an anti-commercialist message, but isn't overly preachy. This, however, is disgusting. It's hypocritical in the way that it was over-commercialized, and the plot totally strays from the book. In an attempt to lengthen the book's plot into a two-hour movie, it was mutilated and convoluted. Not only did the costume manager manage to make Jim Carrey thouroughly disgusting, she or he did so with the Whos too. The only good part was the sets, which were pure eye candy, from the bright colors of Whoville to the dank musty caves of the Grinch.

All in all, get the original animated version. Don't waste your precious cash on this travesty.

Summary: Best Movie I've seen
Review: I saw this movie and fell in love with it. I'm not the type to watch movies over and over but this was such a great movie that I could't help but watch hundreds of times. Jim Carrey did a wonderful job doing the grinch and Ron Howard has made a great movie that i will watch every year for years and years to come

Summary: The Grinch - Widescreen Edition DVD
Review: Thought the film was a right laugh. Just one thing: Why is it the Theatrical trailer on the disc is a lot richer in colour and sharper than the actual film? It appears as though the black level has been raised making the transfer appear foggy. I can only assume this was an error made during transfer.

Still... great film, great sound. Shame about the image.

Summary: Not a great fantasy comedy as i thought but Close.
Review: Narrated by Oscar-Winner:Anthony Hopkins. When the Grinch (Well Played by Jim Carrey), the only man, who hates Christmas. When a little girl named Cindy-Lou (Talyor Momsen), the only person, who could help the grinch but she understands him. But the Grinch is planning to Ruined Christmas in Who-Ville. But on that Christmas night, something in the Grinch heart will changed forever for the good or bad?

Directed by Ron Howard (A Beautiful Mind, Splash, Willow) are decent adapation of Dr. Seuss`s Novel but the Animated T.V. Special was Better. The Problem in this film, which is a Mess (The Camera always Moves or Extreme Close-Up of the Grinch but it`s the film`s Excellent Production Design, which is superb. DVD has an sharp anamorphic Widescreen (1.85:1) transfer and an Clean Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound and DTS 5.1 Surround Sound. DVD has 10 mintues worth of Deleted Scenes, Outtakes, Featurette, Make-up Application and a lot more extras. The Latest DVD has an Commentary Track by the Director, Presented in Anamorphic Widescreen and Pan & Scan with a few more decent extras. This is not the classic like the animated version but this is closer to the Dr. Seuss novel. Die-Hard fans of the novel might love this film or not. The Film Win an Oscar for Best Make-Up (Making Rick Baker, his Sixth Oscar Winner along with First Time Oscar-Winner:Gail Rowell-Ryan). The Film was also Oscar Nominated for Best Art Direction (Set Decoration) and Best Costume Design. Grade:B+.

Summary: Lacks wit. For die-hard Carrey fans, or the very young.
Review: This is a mishmash of a movie, full of Jim Carrey making his usual faces, but with an implausible addition to the classical Grinch plotline, in order to make it "interesting" to adults.

Save your money for the classic Grinch. Bah, humbug!

Summary: Only Jim Carrey Could Have Done This!
Review: This movie is great. Only Jim Carrey could portray the Grinch well and he did in this film. He's got some hilarious lines and really kept me laughing throughout the movie. Cindy Lou Who kind of bugs me and it wouldn't have made me lose sleep if Grinch's heart didn't grow and he let her fall. But we need to please the little kids and no life moms of the Parent Council. Some of Grinch's funny lines include "Ooo, Ahh" as he models his clothes and "If you'd like to fax me, press the star key" This movie is a timeless Christmas classic and will be in my Christmas collection along with the great Home Alone movies.

Summary: cute
Review: I knew Carey would be the perfect Grinch. No other actor couldve played that role. The little girl was sooooo adorable I wanted to reach through the screen and hug her!

Its plot is a little lacking. Seems like a lot of it is filling in time. But the picture is sharp and colors bright. Reminds me of a Tim Burton movie - Batman returns in particular.

Oh did I say how cute the girl is?

Summary: Remake of a Classic
Review: It's difficult to transform a classic, twenty-some minute animated film into a full-length movie, but director Ron Howard does a pretty good job with "The Grinch". The potent asset of this movie is the casting; Jim Carrey does an awesome job in his portrayal of "The Grinch". I don't know of any other actor who could play this part with such animation and credibility. Cindy Lou Who, played by Taylor Momsen, is also a definite casting plus. And Anthony Hopkins is a perfect choice for narrator. The excellent makeup and set designs also deserves kudos. There are a few downsides to this movie, however: 1) The length - it could have made the same impact if it were 85 mins. rather than 105. 2) At times it is obnoxiously loud. (I found myself lowering the volume often). 3) The story line digresses quite a bit from the original animated version (perhaps embelished to accomodate a 105 minute film?) which tends to divert the attention of real "Grinch" fans. Overall, the movie is entertaining and appropriate for the entire family. Would I see it again? Yes. Would I buy it? No. I give it 3 stars.

Summary: "The Grinch" is a good movie, plain and simple.
Review: This film clearly explains my definition for a good movie, it has comedic dialogue that you would never hear the Grinch say in the animated movie. That's what seperates this one from that one. Also, this adaptation provides a back story to why the Grinch hates Christmas, and Ron Howard decided he would add some things to spice up this classic tale, which he did a very good job on, I must say. This is, overall, one of best movies I have ever seen. It is definately worth spending money on.
