Rating: Summary: One of my favorite movies... Review: This movie is actually the flick that turned me on to "British" period films. Emma and Kate are magnificient in their roles as the Dashwood sisters. (Note Winslett's beautiful singing voice!) The movie is funny, yet sad, but resultingly satisfying. I highly recommend this film if you enjoy watching "chick flicks" with twists!
Rating: Summary: A simply beautiful movie. Review: Sense and Sensibility was an extraordinary film. The actors were superb. I enjoyed seeing Alan Rickman in a nice role. Emma Thompson and Kate Winslet were both well suited to their roles. The best thing about this movie is that all ended well at the end. A must see.
Rating: Summary: Loved it Review: There is not a foot put wrong in this adaptation. It is a beautiful film. All the actors are top-notch. And yes there WAS a third sister in the book - Margaret. Only she didn't have such a big part in the book as she does in the movie.
Rating: Summary: Confused some details of the story, but otherwise great. Review: I really did love this movie, but they could at least have followed the book a little more closely. First of all, there are only two sisters, Elinor and Marianne--sense and sensibility. There is not a third sister. Secondly, Lucy has a sister; the sister always plays second to her, but she is part of the story. Thirdly, when Marianne is critically ill, Mr. Willoughby comes to see her, not knowing she's sick. Elinor talks to him, but doesn't let him see Marianne. Mr. Willoughby wants Marianne to know that he really does love her, and it wasn't his idea to write such an unkind letter--his new wife forced him to do it. And finally, the girls' mother is supposed to be the strongest character. She isn't a wimp, as this version portrays her. Elinor is not always taking control of the budget, and she isn't the only sensible one in the family. Their mother is strong, practical, and entirely sensible. This is the one thing that irritated me more than anything else about the movie. However, this version did make up for most of its faults with its beautifully talented cast and its overall cheerful atmosphere. The music is wonderful and the costumes and setting are perfect. Mostly, I enjoyed it immensely!
Rating: Summary: Very Enjoyable Review: This is one of my favourite films. A wonderfully funny adaptation of the book - a deserved Oscar for Emma Thompson! Beautifully filmed and acted. The dvd is packed with great features - a must buy!
Rating: Summary: It's a drama, comedy, and romance in one! : ) Review: This movie is one of the best! It is in the rankings with "Elizabeth" and "Shakespere in Love." This is my favorite time period for movies. The part that Kate Winslet plays is her best. A younger sister who is looking for true love in all the wrong places. She ends up relizing true love is right under her nose. This is a family movie or a movies for couples. It is guarenteed to satisfy the viewer!
Rating: Summary: A unforgettable tale that you will love forever!!!!! Review: I, being a teenager had never heard of Jane Austen, but if this is the kind of stuff she wrote, I'm going to have to read all of her things. Actually I haven't read the book that this movie was taken from yet, either. Anyway this is an awesome movie!! The charachter that impresses me the deepest is Colonel Brandon (Alan Rickman) who certianly changes from his typical bad guy (Sherrif of Notingham on Robin Hood Prince of Thieves) and transforms(for this movie) to the best person you could hope for. Meek, humble, compassionate, caring, I could go on and on! He never expected the younger of the sisters (the one who caught his eye) to pay any attention to him (and she didn't) He stood back and simply watched quietly, as she went straight from meeting someone to a full fleged courtship, only to be dumped cruelly(understatement of the year) by the one she adored! And guess what! When she was heartbroken, he was there for her, without pushing himself romantically on her in any way, or trying to "win" her. In the end, after being so patient and unassuming, and doing nothing but good to anyone, he gets his reward. See it if you haven't!!! It will touch you!! The whole movie in all aspects is simply a BEAUTIFULL film that deserved only the highest awards!
Rating: Summary: Better than ever on DVD! Review: First of all, this is one of my all time favorite films. The DVD version has so many wonderful additions. Emma Thompson's Golden Globe acceptance speech is priceless. It's also nice to listen to the commentaries (two complete sets!) while watching the film with the speakers. The cinematography, costumes, art direction, original score, and most of all the acting simply shine. Thompson gets more wonderful with every viewing. Kate Winslet (who was robbed of the Oscar for this film by Mira Sorvino) has so many layers and brings Marianne to glorious life. Hugh Grant, Alan Rickman, Elizabeth Spriggs, Imogen Stubbs and so many other first rate actors entertain the viewer to no end. The highest recommendation.
Rating: Summary: One of my favorite movies ever!!! Review: I really, really love this movie! And the DVD version is great. I had a lot of fun with the special features. Emma Thompson is brilliant. Hugh Grant is adorable. The story is romantic, funny and totally engrossing. Did I mention that I love this movie??
Rating: Summary: It's Great!! Review: I don't have much else I can add about this wonderful film that hasn't been said already. A point I will make, however, is that being male, it's too bad that so many other "guys" can't or won't let themselves enjoy a movie like this. It's always irritated me that some movies are considered "guy" films, while others are considered "women's" films.
