Summary: High-Quality Family Movie at a Bargain Price!
Review: A triumph for Richard Rich! This film brings art, music, history and culture to a child's level, yet is captivating enough for a mature adult to enjoy. Planet Earth needs more films like this. A+++++

Summary: This movie doesn't even deserve one star!!!
Review: Animation has really deteriorated. The King and I is just another example of how the 'magic' of animation has been lost, no help to anyone in the Disney Company. Animation movies such as Lady and the Tramp are better than movies today!! According to the animation rules of detail, color, and overall dialogue. All I can say is, The King and I wasn't even worth making.

Summary: Is there a way to give a movie negative stars?????
Review: Before I begin dishing this out for Disney, I will give my one (and ONLY) praise about this movie. The music in it is beautifully written. It's only too bad the rest of the movie couldn't have been this good.
If anyone out there is thinking of renting/buying this movie and showing it to their kids, expecting it to be an animated version of the original, FORGET IT. Wait until they're old enough to see the really thing. This movie would be good as a stand-a-lone, if they had been the first to make the whole thing up. But it is a true disgrace to compare this to the original film. Even the story line strays from what we would all expect to see....

Summary: A Classic Born Again
Review: Don't knock non-Disney animated features. There are some exellent ones out there, including 'The Swan Princess','Anastasia','Thumbelina',and this version of 'The King And I'.

One of the best things about this glittering new version of the Rodgers and Hammerstein show is the great treatment of the Overture, with a great orchestral sound, and 'gilded' scenes from the film. Miranda Richardson gives a great 'British' feel to Anna Leonowens, although the singing voice was dubbed.

Barbra Streisand sings a few of the show's songs on the soundtrack album.

The ending is completely different to the original show, and the emotional depth is missing, but all in all this is a pretty good show, and one the whole family will enjoy.

Summary: very entertaining, help relaxing
Review: I have never seen the original musicial The King and I, but I know it is one of the classics. I rented this animated version DVD and found it very enteraining, the music was wonderful, helping me to relax from a day's work. I decide to own one so I can watch it whenever I want. Yes, I did think the parts of Master Little should be reduced. But may be kids like him. Overall, I highly recommend thid dvd to adults and kids alike.

Summary: It was very bad, a waste of $2.50 to rent.
Review: I have seen Anna and the King of Siam, and the King and I. I have to be honest, and say that this is the worst version I have seen. I like Anna and the King of Siam the best. It would have best not the make this video. I lived in Thailand for 2 1/2 years so this special for me. I do not thank that you will sell very many copies in Thailand, and I do not think that you will sell many copies in the United States. Someone should have read the book, and watched both movies before making this pile of trash.

Summary: Silly and unnecessary, but has some merits
Review: I just don't know what the producers at WB were thinking when they went and plucked out a rather campy 50s movie of a 19-century schoolmarm meeting a Thai king and his family to make it into a even campier kartoon. But one theory could be that the WB animators were only trying out their wings at full-length features and as a result, they came up with what is apparently a glowing masterpiece, "The Iron Giant" (I haven't seen it yet, but I definitely WANT to! )

This animated version has been saturated with pretty queasy flights of fantasy and white-knuckles action/adventure as well as "cutesy" critters like that cheeky baby elephant and a truly ugly-looking little monkey that Anne's son is always carrying around. And don't forget the king's pet panther, who just doesn't look so well-drawn. Not to mention the sudden outburst of Broadway performance on the ship when a sea serpent suddenly surfaces. That would just leave you shaking your head in great bewilderment. And oh, what about that fat, ridiculous-looking sidekick of the evil sorcerer who loses all his teeth no matter how well he takes care of them. What a cheap attempt at getting laughs out of the kiddies, who would actually cringe at this grim notion. And the animation as well as the background look quite amateurish, including the box-like 3-D ship obviously slapped together on the computers.

But - this little kidvid flick doesn't come off without some pretty impressive shots like the stone statues suddenly coming alive to stalk the King (though the panther looks pretty silly leaping from one to another) and the little slave girl (who looks just like a Disney princess) suddenly being thrown to the ground to be flogged by the furious king. And there are some nice artwork in a few places as well.

Nevertheless, this is still a pretty shoddy product that could be appreciated only by the youngest of toddlers not yet weaned on all the home videos that they mindlessly gawk at everyday.

Summary: A film to remember
Review: I loved it. Maybe you will too. The story is slighty different from the original. But recommended for people with short attention spans. A sweet story worth getting if nothing short of.
