Summary: If you're debating the purchase, I urge you to go for it!
Review: You will not regret it! If I had known how entertaining and clever this movie was, I would have taken my son to see it when it was in the theater. I am pretty tired of the "Disney Formula" and this animated movie has revitalized my expectations for the company. The voices are a riot from the fabulous Eartha Kitt as a hilarious villaness to her brawny sidekick Kronk (Patrtick "Putty" Warburton) to the condescending but humorous Spade.

Disney casts aside sappy sentimentality in this flick to emphasize humor and wit. A great example is the portrayal of Pacha's pregnant wife at home alone with two young children who cleverly uses her kids to thwart the antagonists. Surprising and extremely funny. As trite as it may sound, this film "works on many levels" providing clever humor for adults with great visuals and jokes for kids. And the theme of kindness and selflessness is done with uncharacterisitcally subtleness without losing the message.

For the price of rentals these days, the cost of owning the movie is not that much more, especially given the number of times we view it. I am extremely pleased with my purchase and glad I looked past a premise that seemed absurd to enjoy one of the most creative films to come from Disney in a long time.

Summary: A little disappointing
Review: Sorry to rain on the parade here, but I have to say this was a disappointment. I felt it lacked the humor, engaging storyline and quality of animation of most previous Disney releases. Not to say that it was bad, just not on par with what I've come to expect from Disney. I bought it blind thinking I couldn't go wrong with Disney and Spade (I'm fans of both). But Spade never hits his stride here. He does a respectable job, but it's by no means vintage Spade. Even my two small children lost interest in the middle on the first viewing. If you've not seen it, I recommend you rent before you buy.

Summary: Another Disney Hit
Review: Disney has another one to add to it's list of hits. The Emperor's New Groove is a fun filled and entertaining movie to watch. It's fun for all ages(pardon the cliche). This is definitely one to add to the collection. So...take my advice and give this movie a look. You won't be sorry. And for you videophiles out there, the DVD has plenty to offer you.

Summary: Difference Between Childern and Adult
Review: The Emperor's New Grove was halerious for the grand kids ages 12, 11, 8, 7, 6, and 4. It was like standup comedy for them, nothing charming, just a lot of one liners. For the grand parents it was shallow, featureless and like a Saturday morning cartoon.

In my grand fatherly opinion the Emporer's character is too crass and selfcentered to be believeable, and the peasant (John Goodman's voice) was too patient in contrast to convince me of a good story. The funniest character, from my point of view, was the one with the voice of "Puddy" from the Sienfeld TV show.

Summary: Sorta Cute, Sorta Corny, Okay for Kids
Review: The animation looks rushed. The basic idea is good but seems to have been pushed through to completion too fast. It does offer good clean viewing for kids but adults and teens might want something a little more intelligent. This cartoon is okay, but nothing special, although Kronk comes close to stealing the show.

Keep in mind, I'm a demanding viewer. You may like it a lot more than I did.

Summary: Funny beyond all reason!!
Review: Me me me mo mo mo!!! Kuzco is a sarcastic spoiled brat that gets lost in the scary jungle. Ew it's a leaf!! He is befriended by Pacha the whiny peasant that tries to show Kuzco he is a good person/llama. LOOK AT ME AND MY BAD SELF!! Yzma wants to rule Kuzco's empire with the help of Kronk. "He is still Alive" Since Kronk has weak ankles he is unable to successfully kill Kuzco instead Kronk spends his day teaching all the peasant children squirrel talk. I need a new acorn!! This movie is hilarious and I love watching it with people who have never seen it before. Hit the road Bucky! TOODLES!

Summary: ONE OF THE BEST ULTIMATE EDITION DVDS OUT THERE!
Review: This DVD's features can only be summed up in one word: ULTIMATE! With features like a look into making an animated Disney film, tons of skits about how the film was made, and more. The DVD is seperated into 2-Discs. Disc one has the feature film and special features including a set-top game, music video #1, and other features. Disc 2 has some more special features. The stuff is seperated into about 10 different sections, each with an intro by the director and producer. If you have the original DVD release put that on sale and buy this version. This is what each DVD release should have, an abundance of features and being released on 2-Discs!

Summary: Bad Movie! this is not Disney!
Review: This movie is really bad I got the 2 Disc Edition DVD, I cant see Disc 2 in may Playstation 2! anyway the movie is not cool, boring and even insulting, the Great Ancient Incas must be angry in his Graves! Disney should make more research in that culture there are hundreds of tales that could be animated from Incas and they did a bunch of trash! I love disney but this time the movie was BAD, how you can compare this movie with the great movie Tarzan? and the characters really [are bad]! I feel really disapointen in this movie...

Summary: SCREAMINGLY FUNNY!
Review: Disney's outdone themselves with this one! I won't go into plot lines in this review, others have already done that. But the writers and animators have really let their imaginations loose, and the efforts have paid off big time. The animation is excellent, the dialog is witty and comes at you at a fast and furious pace. Thank goodness there's a "rewind" button on the remote because you'll have to go back to the dialog you missed as a result of laughing so hard. The diner scene in particular will leave you in hysterics. Tears were rolling down my face and I had to keep pausing the film! Some people have mentioned that this movie reminded them of the old Warner Brothers cartoons because of its fast pace. And I, too, find that it does but for a different reason: I feel the movie was written primarily for adults. Kids will like the story and animation, but adults will *really* get the jokes! All the voice actors did an excellent job on this film. I'm not a David Spade fan but I couldn't imagine Kuzco's voice belonging to anyone else now because Spade's deadpan delivery and his tone fit perfectly with Kuzco's personality. Miss Eartha Kitt is wonderful ("Pull the lever...WRONG LEVERRRRRRRRR!..."), but so are Patrick Warburton and John Goodman.

Some of the extras are a bit sugary sweet. There's a Sting video, but it takes a while to get going as you must suffer through a featurette before viewing the video, and there's a silly little video obviously geared to young children that teaches you how to dance the "Llama Llamma". There's also a deleted scene that, once viewed, makes you grateful it wasn't included in the film...it's too dark and gloomy for the rest of the story.

*THE* choice extra, however, is a game in which you must correctly answer questions about the film in order to get Kuzco from the village to his palace without being ambushed by Yzma. The game is easy and there's nothing much to it per se, but the wonder is all the additional dialog that was recorded for Kronk (Warburton) and Yzma (Kitt). This was no cheap feature and it took much time and talent to put together.

One odd feature was the combination of spoken languages and subtitles. Language tracks are English and French, but subtitles are only in English or Spanish. Having all three languages in both formats would have been best, I think.

Definitely worth purchasing.

Summary: Hilarious Film, Great DVD
Review: THE EMPEROR'S NEW GROOVE is the funniest movie that I have seen in years. I initially had passed on watching it in the theater because I thought it looked childish, but was convinced to give it a try now that it was out on video. Boy, was my initial impression wrong.

The story revolves around a selfish prince who is turned into a llama by one of his subjects. With the help of a kindly peasant he attempts to regain his throne, and in the process finds there's more to him than he previously thought or wanted there to be. While the moral is a good one, it really plays a secondary role to the comedy, which is literally non-stop. GROOVE takes the rapid-fire humor that Disney perfected in Aladdin and combines it with cartoon-style hijinx, the wit of David Spade, and a hilarious lack of reverence for the traditional Disney animated genre. Spade plays his role to perfection, and luckily never crosses the line into being obnoxious. Seinfeld fans are in for a treat, as Puddy plays a very special side-kick role. You really can't take your eyes off the screen for a minute, because you're guaranteed to miss a gag of some sort. The humor works mainly on an adult level, even though kids will be rolling from the funny visuals and some of the more obvious jokes.

The DVD itself is a good one. The digital transfer was excellent and the sound quality is top notch. The commentary track is one of the better that I've heard, with interesting and funny insight from all contributors. Animated menus. There's a deleted scene that was probably best left out, but is interesting to watch anyway, plus a few other fun features.

In the end, this is one of the best Disney flicks to come along in years. Hardcore Disney fans will eat it up. But even if you're not a fan of Disney's usual animated features you should give GROOVE a shot. Cast aside your pre-concieved notions and you just might be in for a very pleasant surprise. I was. FIVE STARS.
