Rating: Summary: Picture remastering poor, sound mono as if from a synd tape Review: They need to take a new transfer from Paramount's original interpositive, and remix the music and effects tracks into Stereo utilizing Paramount's original 3-track music and effects masters as they did for Paramount's other classic treasure, Willie Wonka. This DVD is only better than it's 12-inch LaserDisc cousin due to the widescreen transfer. However, the color is poor, the print they took the transfer from appears severely damaged in several places, the film jitter and weave is completely unwatchable. The sound is monaural and appears to be color-matched and sound equalized to look and sound good on the TV's of the early 70's when the film came to home video the first time. It's as if someone played a 16MM classroom print of the film on a classroom projector, aimed a camera and a microphone at the classroom projector and then used that for the DVD master.
Rating: Summary: An excellent adaptation, despite the... Review: This is an excellent adaptation of the book by E.B. White, despite the 70's cheesy/lazy animation epitomized by Hanna Barbara (a la Scooby Doo cartoons). My two and a half year old son does his best to sing along with the beautiful songs. Debbie Reynolds is wonderful as Charlotte, and Paul Lynde steals every scene he is in as Templeton the rat. My son loves to march to the song "Zuckerman's Famous Pig" and it is the cutest thing to hear him try to sing these fast-paced lyrics. He loves this movie, and so do I, even after seeing it several dozen times. He's too young for the book, but I know he'll love it too because of his familiarity with this video.
Rating: Summary: this is rather pleasing. Review: this is an old movie starring animated farm animals in which this little girl plays with wilbur the pig a lot.what she doesnt know is todays porkbelly pigpen playmate is tomorrows barbeque.the spider likes wilbur too,so she spins messages of praise to wilbur for all to see.everyone gets in a uproar over this fascinating phenomenon and they hope to save wilbur this way.kids like it but theres a dead charlotte at the end so the emotional ones will be in teers.it is very much consistent with the book.my 4th grade teacher read it to us.its good too.the author e.b. white also wrote the trumpets of the swan and stuart little also.the message here is dont hold onto nothing for too long.especialy a big fat farm pig filled with pork chops and bacon.mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm mmmm.
Rating: Summary: The Power of Loyalty and Friendship!! Review: This is E.B. White's classic and timeless children's story in animation and music. Charlotte the Spider (Debbie Reynolds voice) teaches Wilbur the Pig (Henry Gibson's voice) about life, and Templeton the Rat (Paul Lynde's voice)all join in the barnyard fun for lessons in friendship, trust, and love. A marvelous film for the entire family. It's a throwback to another age, this movie, and we all can learn something from a more quieter life, although in animation, it seems like the animals are just like us. Or is it the other way around. In any event, it's a fun film.
Rating: Summary: Hanna-Barbera at their absolute best. Review: This is not a Disney cartoon so the look is different. But the level of animation is fine and isn't even noticeable because the video itself is so good.
The story, song, and voice talents are extraordinary and this film easily gets 5 stars. Any cartoon that has Debbie Reynolds, Paul Lynde, Henry Gibson, Dave Madden, Danny Bonaduce, and Agnes Moorehead has got to be top notch. The music is also well done. And of course the story from E. B. White is one of the classics.
Kids and adults alike watch and rewatch this in my home and I recommend it highly for your video library. Nothing objectionable at all in the film. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: A classic! Review: This is one of my all-time favorite movies. No matter what your age, it is sure to delight. As a child I watched it countless times and now, years later, I find myself wanting to do it again. Wilbur, Charlotte, Templeton and the rest of the animals on the farm are charming, funny, and often have a valuable lesson to teach. A great movie for ages 1-100!
Rating: Summary: A Timeless Masterpiece! Review: This is one of the best stories ever written, and this adaptation does it great justice. My daughter, 3, has watched it for over 4 months now and knows every song, every bit of dialog, and enjoys it over and over. And I'm so happy with the warmth of the story, the animation, how well each song fits into the story line. It's simply charming!! The animals' voices are wonderful!! Debbie Reynolds is a noble and nurturing Charlott, Henry Gibson is a perfect Wilbur, Agnes Moorehead is a hilarious stuttering goose, and who else but Paul Lynde could play Templeton the Rat with such panache?? (I don't know who does the sheep's voice, but he's also well cast). If you have smaller children, you can't do without this video!!
Rating: Summary: Excellent story about courage and strength Review: This movie is a fun and touching story about a pig named Wilbur who allows a spider to help him prove that he's "Some Pig." While there is a lot of talk about death, there are also great representations of courage and life. Templeton the rat really gives the movie an edge of humor. The songs are also fun and meaningful. You will enjoy watching this movie with your children over and over again. My son loves it!
Rating: Summary: The first movie I ever saw Review: This movie is as good today as it was 25 years ago
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Children's Classic - Animated Gem! Review: When Farmer Zuckerman was going to "do away with" the runt of his pig's litter, his daughter tearfully convinces him to allow her the responsibility of raising "Wilbur". Wilbur turns into the barnyard joy, and eventually wins not only first prize at the fair, but because of the wisdom of the old spider, Charlotte, becomes a famed attraction. This classic children's story deals with the life cycle and explains, through the farm animals' eyes, that birth, life and eventual death are all natural, and nothing to fear. After a laborous life, Charlotte dies, but all are reminded of her "magic" when her little baby spiders hatch and go on into the world to live their lives. Debbie Reynold lends her voice to Charlotte, and several beautiful songs envelop this delightful story. This one is right up there with animated Disney Classics, a film every child should enjoy, one of the very best in its class.*****
