Rating: Summary: Cool cartoons, lame DVD Review: INTRODUCTION: In 1989, Nintendo began airing its first animated series, The Super Mario Bros. Super Show. This series aired Mondays through Thursdays. On Fridays, however, they aired an episode of their other animated series, The Legend Of Zelda. And at long last a DVD of Zelda cartoons has arrived? Read on for my review of this package.BASIC PLOT: The basic plot of The Legend Of Zelda animated series is simple. There are two pieces of the Triforce (a magical crystal with amazing powers) - Wisdom and Courage. The Princess of Hyrule, Zelda, has the Wisdom. Unfortunately, the oter piece, Power, is in the hands of the evil wizard Ganon. To help her get the other piece back, Zelda has hired the help of Link, a young swordsman. Each episode of the show involves them battling Ganon for some reason or another. FILM OPINIONS: Overall this was a cool series. Sure, it was horribly inaccurate to the games in a number of ways, but it was still entertaining. And the mix of action and comic relief was very nice, too. For 1989, this is about as cool as an American cartoon series could be. DVD: Though the series rocked, the DVD isn't so fortunate. Why the hell are there two Sonic Underground episodes on here!? Not only are the two series completely unrelated, but at the time, Nintendo and Sega were BITTER RIVALS! Having the shows together makes NO SENSE. By not having those episodes on the DVD, they could easily have made room for more Zelda. Likewise, the menus are horribly done and are hosted by Inspector Gadget! WTF!? But the biggest flaw of all is that this only has THREE episodes - NOT the entire series (which consisted of, I believe, thirteen episodes.) FINAL VERDICT: Buy this DVD if you can find it for a good price, but otherwise, don't bother with it. As good an idea as this DVD was, the DiC corporation just can't seem to get this concept right. If someone from DiC is reading this - YOU DESPERATELY NEED TO RELEASE SEASON BOX SETS OF YOUR NINTENDO CARTOONS - NOT SCATTERSHOT PACKAGES LIKE THIS ONE!
Rating: Summary: Well, Excuse Me, Princess! Review: This is a DVD release of the 1989 animated series, The Legend Of Zelda, based on the first two Zelda games on the classic Nintendo(1985). This series was created by DIC Entertainment for airing every Friday, as part of the Super Mario Bros. Super Show(1989). Unfortunatly this DVD only contains three episodes of the series, and two unrelated episodes of Sonic Underground. UAV should have put more episodes since their are a total of 13. Or at least put instead two episodes of Captain N, The GameMaster(another Nintendo based animated series by DIC) that included Link and Zelda(thier were 4 episodes). Thanks, Remember for everything thats made someone out thier has to like it, otherwise it wouldnt have been created.
Rating: Summary: Excuuuuuse me princess! Review: This show makes me feel like I am conquering the world. It is a wonderful rendition of what life is really like in the world of hyrule. Right after I finished watching it, (for the 87th time), I couldn't help but hook up my old NES and play the Legend of Zelda. I've beat it, along with all of the other Zelda games, multiple, (and I mean multiple), times.
This DVD would be made more complete if it had commentary by the directors. My friends and I thought it would be funny to add the commentary ourselves so on about our 46th time of watching it, we turned the volume on mute, and had a field day. We were hilarious. I hope this review is helpful. May the force be with you.
Grab some Doritios and watch this DVD. It's beautiful.
