Rating: Summary: Halloween? Review: First I'll say my kids like this video. That's most important. There are a couple of strange things about it that I noticed. First, neither the packaging nor anything in the story indicate it - but the title on screen says "Halloween is Grinch Night" and you never see a reference to Halloween again. The date on the box is 1971, while at the end of the movie it is 1977. The music is painfully forgettable. Hans Conreid is a decent substitute as the voice of the Grinch.
Rating: Summary: Grinch Night on DVD! Review: Grinch Night is the best Halloween special never ran on TV these day. It was a truly memorable expereince on those cold October nights of my childhood. And although it was released (and purchased by myslef) on VHS the grainy picture and sub-par sound really doused the viewing. But now we have it on DVD and a whole new genration of children (and adults) can enjoy this priceless treasure digitally. Thank you Universal reincarnating this masterpiece. Oh, my only complaint about this volume; shoulda' entitled it "Grinch Night and Other Favorites" with the Grinch's snarling visage on the cover......
Rating: Summary: Great Stories, marred by forced commercials Review: I would have given this DVD 5 stars if it weren't for the fact that you are forced to watch (or fast forward through) several commercials before you get to the DVD menu. There is no way to jump directly to the menu. This is highly irritating, and Universal should be aware that it doesn't make me want to buy any more of their DVD's. However, the Dr. Seuss stories are still fabulous, of course.
Rating: Summary: Let's just say it had a lifelong impact... Review: My earliest memory is the first time I saw "Grinch Night"--when I was about two years old. Bad mistake on my parents' part...that movie scared me silent. I hardly understood the plot, but I remembered very specific aspects of it: the line about Eukariah's glasses, the weird orange bird that's always featured on the cover, the Grinch's flying eyebrows, and this big hovering ballon-thing with huge eyes...I had nightmares for years. I watched it again when I was seven (actually I was forced to watch it because we watched it in class for Halloween), and it still scared me to death--even more so because I understood the plot. And then I didn't have the courage to watch it again until I was thirteen years old. And, even though I still have nightmares about it, I have an awesome new respect for it--the combined efforts of Dr. Seuss and Joe Raposo created the perfect spooky atmosphere for a children's Halloween special that wasn't even remotely corny. Highly recommended--just not for two-year-olds. :)
Rating: Summary: The other grinch movie Review: The much rarer Grinch video. Everyone knows how the Grinch stole Christmas, but fewer people realize there's more to the story. The look of the animation is more Suess-ian than the Christmas one and while I love 'Christmas,' I actually prefer the animation style of Grinch Night. Plus the music is catchy and fun. Get how the Grinch stole Christmas, then get this movie and enjoy them both. Also great for Halloween.

Rating: Summary: Grinch Night Is The Better Story Review: The video version of "Green Eggs and Ham" is much better than the book. It contains more details and action, which makes it fairly entertaining for little children. However, Grinch Night is far superior and better for family viewing. Although Grich Night is not based on a story book like "How The Grinch Stole Christmas," it demonstrates some good Dr. Seus techniques. Here the Grinch is portrayed differently and doing magic with both his eyebrows and cart. The story starts with things pleasent in Whooville when, suddenly, a sweet-sour wind causes things to be unpleasent and, as a result, making the situation suitable for the Grinch to come down and cause trouble with his scary features. However, a young boy name Eukariah wanders outside and gets blown up the mountain where he walks into the Grinches route and feels he must try and prevent him from reaching Whooville. However, in doing so, young Eukariah must face the Grinches scary magic, which is too powerful for anyone to overcome as long as the sweet-sour wind keeps blowing. Do not be satisfied with "How The Grinch Stole Christmas." "Grinch Night" is a must-see and is also easier to be expanded into a movie.
Rating: Summary: Classic Dr. Seuss at his best. Review: This DVD contains four digitally remastered (great image quality) classic Dr. Seuss stories: * Green Eggs and Ham: about Sam-I-Am and his never ending quest to make people sample the dish he loves best. * The Sneetches: about a narrow-minded and prejudiced group of creatures who don't accept others who don't look exactly like them. * The Zax: about two hardheaded and proud beings who waste a whole lifetime for not yielding the right of way. * Grinch Night: about a courageous kid who faces the Grinch and saves his whole town from his malicious Halloween tricks and terrors. (A must see on Halloween night). It also contains two wonderful sing-along songs: He Will Eat Them and Grinches Inches Closer. Not only does this collection of cartoons contains the marvelous songs and poetry of Dr. Seuss, it is also a great way to teach kids about human values like open-mindedness, tolerance and acceptance, humility, courage and selflessness. They are filled with original art and are also very entertaining. Buy this DVD for your kids and enjoy it with them. I would also recommend buying Dr. Seuss' The Cat in the Hat and Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas.
Rating: Summary: Dr. Seuss at his not-quite-so-best Review: This is a pretty good show, but it's not one of Dr. Seuss' very best. I'm not sure how much Dr. Seuss had to do with it, but it seems pretty Dr. Suess-ish. I like the: "You put your glasses back on and face the facts!" Of the Freleng-DePatie Dr. Seuss TV specials, this is the best I'VE seen. But it isn't NEARLY so good as "The Grinch Who Stole Christmas" (directed by Chuck Jones, Freleng's buddy at Warner Bros.) or "Horton Hears a Who" (Directed by Chuck Jones also, it isn't The Grinch, but it's a great show, none the less), or "Horton Hatches the Egg" (A Looney Tunes cartoon directed by the master director: Bob Clampett, who is about as good as Freleng and Jones). It certainly is better than the trash their making NOW with Dr. Suess' name on it, like: THE GRINCH with Jim Carrey and THE CAT IN THE HAT with Mike Myers (oy!). Grinch Night isn't bad, but it isn't the best use of Dr. Seuss characters. It most likely would've been better if Friz Freleng (the producer of this show) directed it, or Chuck Jones, or Bob Clampett, or perhaps let Dr. SEUSS direct it. Ah, THERE'S an idea nobody's thought of!
Rating: Summary: Dr. Seuss is Always the Best Review: This is probably my favorite Dr. Seuss movie after The Lorax. I love this movie! It's about a little boy who had to go to the outhouse when Grinch night was coming, and, while he was walking outside, the high winds forced him to meet the Grinch who had this huge cart and his poor little dog, Max, who was pulling the cart, with him. The little boy survives the terrors of the Grinch's cart, and finally the Grinch lets Max go live with the boy (I think that that may be why I love this movie so much). Then they both go home, and the Grinch goes back to his mountain considerably nicer. Also, the little furry thing that the Grinch had been chasing got away, too. I recommend this to anyone, and I especially recommend it to be watched on Halloween night.
