Rating: Summary: toddler loves this..and mom doesn't mind it either! Review: Grandma bought this video for my 2 1/2 year old son. He absolutely loves it! The stories are interesting and colorful-and short enough to keep his attention. He loves Chicka Chicka Boom Boom (my favorite too) and talks about the caterpillar and polliwog who "change into something else when I grow up." We went to the library and got a few of the books-he turns the pages and "reads" along with the video. The stories also make the books more interesting. I doubt I'd have checked out "Trashy Town" from the library without this video-but it's really a fun book for my son. This is one video that I don't mind watching over and over-especially if my son can get a head start on reading with the books.
Rating: Summary: A must have DVD Review: I bought the DVD just for Chicka Chicka Boom Boom but my 2-½ yrs old twin daughters loved every story. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom book is one of their favorites and with the help of this DVD they learned the alphabet in two days! They want to watch the whole thing again and again which is very unusual cause they don't stand still too much! I know which gift am I going to buy for my friends' children now. I can highly recommend it to everyone.
Rating: Summary: INCREDIBLE! Review: I bought this after reading all the positive reviews on the Amazon site, but this video really surpassed all my expectations. The music is catchy, and the way they bring the books to life is wonderful. My three-and-a half year old son and I go around singing "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom" at odd moments, and when we clean up the house we keep referring to "Trashy Town." Yesterday in the bookstore we found "Rosie's Walk" and he immediately wanted to buy it and bring it home. This is the first time my car/truck/cement mixer-obsessed son has been really excited about buying a book, so naturally I am extremely pleased. Even though the content of the four books themselves is educational, I think the real lesson learned here is how exciting and rich a book can be.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful entertainment for the young Review: I bought this DVD for my 4 year old and she loves it! Not only that, but, my husband and I also think so. The music is wonderful: our favorites are Chicka Chicka Boom Boom and The Foolish Frog (sung by Pete Seeger) both children and adults will enjoy. It's such a huge step up from some of the trash that's out there. I highly recommend this DVD for young children. I can't wait to see what else Scholastic puts out.
Rating: Summary: Kid favorite Review: I bought this movie last year and since I bought it, it has been viewed a minimum of 50 times. It is ideal for kids aged 2 - 7. Many times the kids want to watch it over again (and over again and over again). I dare anybody to not enjoy watching this video with some kids and singing along. Chicka Chicka BOOM BOOM!
Rating: Summary: Don't Be Put Off Review: I was a little leary of Trashy Town. But it is charming, and my son (age 3) loves it. And the Pete Seeger Foolish Frog makes him giggle uncontrollably. This is the third in the Scholastic series that I've purchased, and, as much as everyone in the family loves Wild Things and Harold, this is better.
Rating: Summary: An excellent DVD! Review: My 3 year old son watches this DVD more than any other. The stories are presented in such a nice sing-song way, and the animations are really cute. This is not one of those DVD's that will wear on your nerves over time!
Rating: Summary: Lots of Fun Review: My Boys, ages 2 and 4, enjoy watching this video. The older boy was not one for books, but watching the stories helped him make the jump to enjoying reading. This DVD has a read-along feature, where the words are displayed on the screen. The music is catchy and enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: GOTTA OWN THIS ONE! Review: My son and daughter (3 and 2) absolutely love this video. And moms and dads: you'll be going off to work with the catchy tune in your head - perhaps sing out a note here and there. We just recently got the book too. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Scholastic scores again Review: Scholastic books came up with the wonderful idea to put classic children's stories on video/DVD. We already had the "Chrysanthemum" DVD (featuring readings by Meryl Streep, Sarah Jessica Parker and Mary Beth Hurt), so getting "Chicka Chicka Boom Boom!" (our kids favorite book) was an easily made purchase. This time around, the books are put to original music rather than being read. My kids have been singing the "Chicka" song 24/7 for 2 weeks now (to the point where my husband is offering to buy them a McDonald's sundae if they lay off singing the "Chicka" song for one night). "Trashy Town" is also offered with a catchy little tune, as well as classic books such as "Rosie's Walk" and "The Caterpiller and the Pollywog".
The DVD offers more than the VHS, simply because you have the option of having the words to the story on screen. Our kids had "Trashy Town" on their bookshelf, but never really showed much interest in it. Now, they're begging for it to be read to them before bedtime. These Scholastic DVD's are a great way to encourage kids to explore books.
