Rating: Summary: Obsessive Collector Mentality Leads to Kidnaping, Film at 11 Review: Any film that starts with an award-winning animated short can't be all bad, especially when you realize that that animated short (Pixar's first film) was created in 1986, and must have cost them a small fortune. Whoever was behind those two lamps was a demented genius. Whoever thought a lamp could show emotion so clearly? More clearly than many actors, I'd warrant. That aside, the movie itself was pretty durned good. We were the only people in the theater right up until the beginning of the movie, when a troupe of aboust seven kids and their beleaguered parents wandered in. They were as well-behaved as could be expected, thankfully. Tangent: there was also an extended (five minute) preview for a film coming out in May called Dinosaur. The animation, at least what we saw, is nothing short of spectacular. Looks like a good'un. How can you do a review of Toy Story 2 without comparing it to the original? Simple-- you can't. And there were a few places it suffered in comparison, though few they were. While the original was pretty much lighthearted all the way through, there was one early scene in this movie (the trashcan scene, for those of you who've already seen it) that, were I the target age of this movie, would have given me nightmares for weeks. And the motivations of the chicken man (voice of Wayne Knight) were probably a lot darker and more complex than kids will be able to grasp. That being said, the main focus of the movie is, and should be, on Wayne Knight, the evil collector guy. Being the ex-husband of a collector, I've observed the pathology at close range for an extended period of time, and whoever wrote this part and coached Knight did a superb job. This is about as good a portrayal of the collector as I've ever seen. And no, there isn't a bit of exaggeration there. The story is simple enough: Knight, who runs a toy store, sees Woody at a yard sale, attempts to buy him for an astounding price, and then steals him to complete a collection of Round-Up Woody memorabilia (it seems Woody was the star of a really, really awful 50s TV show) to sell to a Japanese museum for a horrendous sum of money. The other toys try to get him back, meeting a whole bunch of weird, unscrupulous, and downright silly characters in the process. We finally meet Zurg, Buzz Lightyear's arch-nemesis; the old guy from "The Chess Game" makes a cameo (and now we know what he does for a living); and the little green guys from the crane game in the original movie pop back up and are as funny as ever. The graphics and animation are top-notch, which we've come to expect in a flick that will keep the kids entertained and provides more than enough plot to keep the adults going, too. Worthwhile on all counts.

Rating: Summary: A MUST SEE FOR ALL WHO ENJOY ENTERTAINMENT! Review: This is the movie that will take you to another world as you feel for each of the characters. You become involved with their adventures, cheering them on and when the movie comes to an end, you will be asking for more. I felt that this movie was better than the first. It has a better story than the first and the fact that there is no evil little boy trying to blow them up made it quite nice. Don't get me wrong, I also really enjoyed the first one; however, the second seems to have more to it in every aspect. They took something great and made it better. Overall, an absolutely wonderful show for all in your family. A must own!
Rating: Summary: very good Review: Toy Story was amazing. CGI had never looked so good, and the humor was great, both children and adults could enjoy this movie. In this movie, Woody is kidnapped by an evil toy collector voiced by the-always-evil Wayne Knight. Woody discovers not only his roots, but also the true meaning of family. A lot of people like the yodeling Jessie voiced by Joan Cusack, but I'd have to say that the best scenes involve Tim Allen and his duels with his nemesis Zurg. Pop culture references allow adults to get some jokes that kids might miss, but the kids will have a blast watching this animated adventure. This movie is more plot-oriented than the first--which kids will love--and is hence more fun.
Rating: Summary: WOW Review: I stayed away from the first TOY STORY, expecting a soul-less, calculated kids' movie with no heart. WOW was I wrong! I saw TOY STORY II first, and have since seen what I missed with the first one on video. This movie, like its predecessor, is quite simply MAGIC. The feeling it gives you is one you may have thought you outgrew -- much more than a kid's movie, this is a movie with a sentimental heart for everyone. The toys, their star voices, the computerized-but-living-breathing animation are so well thought out and imagined that you are swept up instantly into the simple story. Highlights include the wonderful race through the toy store aisles, complete with Barbies singing and dancing, and the surprisingly moving Randy Newman song, which underscores Jessie's flashback. Joan Cusack, Tim Allen, Tom Hanks and virtually all of the other human voices are exceptionally well-matched to their computer counterparts. I loved this movie, and recommend it especially to those who didn't believe, as I did not, that the marriage of computer technology and animation could be this electrifying and delightful and, well, REAL.
Rating: Summary: Toy Story 2 Review: I loved the first Toy Story and was reluctant to see this one. Disney can never manage a decent sequel. Except for the Rescuers. The animation was nicely done and the characters were great. The only reason I ended up seeing this movie was because of this scene I heard about from my friend between other Buzz and Zurg. Can we say "Empire Strikes Back"? It was great. Being a Star Wars fan, I appreciated it. Anyway, the story line was good and I loved Jessie. Finally Disney has pulled off a good sequel. And, as I said before, the animation was cool. Pixar and Disney should team up more often.
Rating: Summary: A great flick. Review: Well, I'll tell ya a little story. I love it. It is as simpleas that. The animation is perfect and the direction is awesome and Tim Allen and Tom Hanks are a welcome suprise. This time, Woody gets stolen by a myserious chicken man, and of course Buzz and the gang set out to find him while encounting several other Buzzer's, a crashing bus and sexy barbie dolls. What an adventure! Move over, The Iron Giant, Toy Story 2 is the best animated movie of 1999, and one the best movies I have ever seen.
Rating: Summary: Toy Story 2 Review: I thought Toy Story 2 was just as good as the first Toy Story! Tom Hanks and Tim Allen are just absolutley excellent! Not only did my children love it, so did I!! I already have the first movie, and I can not wait until the second one comes out!!! You aren't too old or too young to see this film! Keep up the good work, and keep on making great Family movies like this one!!
Rating: Summary: A Movie Revolution Review: This is the first in a new age of films. Really they shouldn't be called films anymore, there's no filming involved! This was a pretty good, I never bothered to see the original but having been told the second one was better, took the oppertunity to go and see it. It's very different from any film you've seen before. Because the charecters aren't real people, you would expect it to be a cartoon. Not so. It's isn't a sequence of animated drawings either. It's somewhere inbetween, but its feels really strange watching it. Contrary to popular opinion, the film is suitable for ages. There is lots of stuff in it which is hillairusly funny no matter what age you are(similar to The Simpsons). When I saw it, I was with a bunch of French exchange students. They all found it 'tres rigole'(very funny) In conclusion it is a fantastic film with a revolutionary way of producing. Thre is a good story line, but the best thing is that its really entertaining for all age groups. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that it really isn't my type of 'film'.
