Rating: Summary: Fantastic Addition to Your DVD Collection! Review: I bought this box set for my husband, who is a huge Peanuts fan, for Christmas and he absolutely loves it! No one should get through the holidays without watching the Peanuts specials!
I hadn't seen these specials for years simply because I kept missing them when they would come on TV, since they're usually only aired once or twice a year. Now they can ben watched at your own leisure. :)
I like how the bonus material included extra cartoons, but bonus material is one of the best parts of DVDs so I wish there were more. I love love love making-of featurettes, and that would have been really great to have as a bonus feature on each DVD.
Despite the lack of bonus material, this is a great collection for both young and old. :)
Rating: Summary: VHS buyers beware!! Review: I bought this collection on VHS, but the VHS only has 3 episodes on it, not 6. The description is incorrect and I don't want anyone else to be as disappointed as I was. You can probably get the same set, which is called "Peanuts Holiday Collection", cheaper, and it is the exact same set.
Rating: Summary: GREAT BUY! Entire family loves it Review: I bought this for my 4 year old son. He abolutely LOVES the entire collection and watched them over and over again. He is now almost 5 & still loves them. My husband & myself are big nostalgic fans as we grew up with Charlie Brown on TV. Even my 18 month old daughter loves them. She giggles and claps when she watches them. The TV commercials are true, you don't have to wait for the 1 time a year to enjoy Peanuts specials, you can watch them all year long (and NO commercials)
Rating: Summary: In love with the peanuts Review: I gave this four stars only because of the cost, which I feel could have been lessened by putting them all on one dvd. The price may be steep for a collection with no extras other then a bonus movie on each disk, but for a fan of the peanuts it's well worth it. I have never gotten to enjoy these movies without the interruption of commericals. I was pleased with the quality of the DVD's, which made it worth my money. I was happy to find out that the bonus movies were of the same quality as the three more popular ones. I also do perfer the Mayflower voyages over A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, which another reviewer also mentioned.
Rating: Summary: Rating based on the DVD, not the shows Review: I just got my copy of the boxed set and as we all know, "It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown" and "A Charlie Brown Christmas" are indispensible classics on the level of "It's a Wonderful Life", "Miracle on 34th Street", and "A Christmas Story". In my opinion, "A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving" was kind of mailed in, but you can hardly have the other two without the third. The DVDs are a little lacking though. (...) Why does it take three DVDs to contain six 25-minute cartoons? Especially when there are no special features to speak of. English subtitles are not a feature...give me a director's cut, a music video for "Linus and Lucy" or something of the like. They could have gotten away with one DVD for which I still would have paid (the money) for.
Rating: Summary: Peanuts Holiday Collection DVD Box Set Is Worth Owning! Review: I just recently bought this Peanuts Holiday Collecton DVD box set, I was doing some shopping for Christmas gifts and I saw this box set and having loved watching these Holiday specials when I was a child I decided to splurge and buy it and I'm glad I did because It's The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown, A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and A Charlie Brown Christmas are just as wonderful and charming watching them as an adult as when I watched them as a child. I have A Charlie Brown Christmas on video tape but it's much better on DVD so I will give the tape to a relative. On the Great Pumpkin DVD there is a bonus feature called You're Not Elected Charlie Brown and it is good but not great. On The Thanksgiving DVD the bonus feature is The Mayflower Voyagers and is very good, the best of the bonus features, the weakest of the bonus features is the one on the Christmas DVD, It's Christmastime Again, Charlie Brown was worth watching once but I will be skipping that one for now on and I'll just watch the classic Christmas special. The bonus Christmas cartoon was very choppy and could have used some better editing! I give the set 5 stars for all the rest but I wish they had included It's The Easter Beagle, Charlie Brown, but this set is worth buying if you are a Peanuts fan.
Rating: Summary: Nostalgia at it's finest. Review: I loved watching the Peanuts gang as a kid and now I can show them to my kids without being a slave to the TV schedule.
Rating: Summary: Thank you Mr. Schultz ! The oldest are the best! Review: I really miss this candor and naive approach of these old cartoons, compared with the flashing, annoying, violent ones of these days. Everytime I see this movies I go back in time and feel a breeze of innocence again.
Rating: Summary: Thank you, Mr. Schultz! Review: I received the holiday collection in the mail and am thrilled with it. I love sharing these stories with my son and husband. It's funny -- I wasn't a big Snoopy fan growing up. But now, I love the purity and simplicity of these films. And my son rolls with laughter when he watches them. FYI: The packaging for this collection is wonderfully done. Even the DVDs themselves contains two-color graphics in the spirit of the films. You'll enjoy just looking at them.
Rating: Summary: The classic stories that set up the holidays so well Review: I was given this set for Christmas, as these have been favorites of mine for 30 years. Every year as a child we would watch these specials a week or two before the holiday on television. In short, these stories and characters are part of my childhood.
In DVD format they look like new. The colors are so sharp, and the format is simple and easy. Each DVD comes with the classic story (Christmas, Thanksgiving and Halloween) and each comes with a bonus Charlie Brown special. For example, the Christmas disc comes with a "sequel" special I had not seen before. It is not as good as the original, but was very entertaining. Likewise the other bonus specials were new to me as well, so that was a fun treat.
One of things that make the Christmas special in particular so timeless and good for the family is that they were written before the era of censorship of any mention of the Biblical meaning of Christmas. Whenever I read the second Chapter of Luke, and the story of Christ's birth, I "hear" it in Linus's voice! The music in the Christmas special is classic as well, and a foundation for the Holiday at my house.
Of course who could forget such classic scenes as Peppermint Patty exclaiming "What kind Thanksgiving is this? Where is the turkey, the cranberries, where is the Pumpkin pie?" Or when Charlie Brown and the other kids are looking into their trick or treat bags and Charlie says "I got a rock". These scenes and many others make the Halloween and Thanksgiving specials fun to watch again and again.
Buy this set so your children will make these timeless and classic specials part of how they identify with these Holidays, or better yet, buy it for the child in you. Highly recommended for everyone.
