Rating: Summary: Please see this video Review: I can only say that this is a deeply moral and wonderfully done tale. While I had no expectations at the start, this story is so overwhelmingly joyful and just, that I can only give it the highest recommendation. I purchased the Swan Lake video after seeing it and there is simply no comparision. This is a well written, kind and even noble story for your child.
The characters are kind, gentle and polite. Your children need to see this. You may cry when you hear the lullaby. It is something we all wish our children.
Rating: Summary: A real treat! Review: As a 46-year-old grandmother, I first rented this DVD for my 6-year-old granddaughter. We were both so charmed by the movie that I immediately purchased my (our) own copy. The story is excellent, the characters well drawn, and a special bonus is the beautiful soundtrack. The animation is amazing, and I think many people would be surprised by how much they would enjoy this movie if they just give it a chance.
Rating: Summary: oh man... Review: As a babysitter, I watch many movies that if I wasn't a babysitter, I'd never watch. This is just one of the many ones that my charges love, especially the 3-4 year olds. honestly, I don't like this movie, mostly because I've seen it so much. However, it keeps the girls happy, and yes, I've seen the boys love it too. As a teenager, I'd have to refuse to watch it, but if you do have kids, it's a great movie for them. Just not a great movie for anyone else.
Rating: Summary: Animated Bad Acting... Review: As an adult, I absolutely can't stand this movie. It appears to me to be bad acting in animation form. As if they watched a bunch of church-pageant-level players act out the scenes and put them in a cartoon. Perhaps it's the script, which is horrible. If I hear the words "Mighty Dragon" again, I think I'll scream! However, my daughters LOVE this movie. I have three girls 4 and under, and it's a commonly requested video at our house. Hence, the two stars I've given it. My advice is if you have children who have already seen this movie, it's probably a must-have. Otherwise, I recommend avoiding this one. If you're looking for a Barbie movie, Swan Lake is better.
Rating: Summary: Rapunzel Lets Down Her Audience After Sparkling Nutcracker Review: Barbie in The Nutcracker quickly became a favorite with our family when it was released last year. So we were psyched to see the new video featuring the animated doll as Rapunzel. Alas, like the princess's glorious golden hair, we were let down. As in The Nutcraker, Rapunzel features wonderful classical music (Dvorak's New World Symphony), dazzling animation, and a touching story. But the layers of meaning, adult-level jokes, and high diction of Nutcracker were missing here. Barbie was dumbed down. Remember the "insolent mice" and "cheeky blighter" of The Nutcracker? Those challenging and delightful phrases have been replaced by lame, contemporary dialogue such as, "I call 'em like I see 'em" in what may be an attempt to make the old fairy tale new, fresh, and relevent. Alas, poor Barbie, we liked you better when you used bigger words. Our children - ages six, four, and two - liked it well enough. But we adults hope the Barbie writers pick up Rapunzel's magic paintbrush and use it to paint the next script with the sparkling and intelligent colors we loved in Barbie's debut.
Rating: Summary: Barbie in her second animated movie Review: Everybody's favorite 11-inch fashion doll stars as the girl with the impossibly-long hair, in this new version of "Rapunzel" - BARBIE AS RAPUNZEL. Barbie tells the story of "Rapunzel" to little sister Kelly, who is having a hard time deciding on what to paint. The story of Rapunzel is a lovely old-fashioned one, with a few nifty modern touches. When Rapunzel discovers a magical silver paintbrush, she unwittingly uncovers the key to her freedom and her destiny. Kept a virtual prisoner by the evil witch Gothel (voiced by Anjelica Huston), Rapunzel and her two friends; wily rabbit Hobie and kind dragon Penelope (voiced by Cree Summer), spend their days serving Gothel and her evil minions. When Rapunzel discovers the handsome Prince Stefan and his family, she falls in love and decides to take back control of her life; and in doing so brings peace and harmony to two warring kingdoms. Unlike the original story, Rapunzel doesn't rely on her Prince to suddenly rescue her; she goes after HIM! Also, she does not rely on her long hair to create an escape from her isolation. As with BARBIE IN THE NUTCRACKER, purists will be shocked at the liberties taken with the original storyline, but it is told with style, wit and a lot of charm. Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: CALLING ALL GIRLS CALLING ALL GIRLS Review: EXCELLENT Movie for all girls. I am 21 yrs old and I loved this movie.
Rating: Summary: Barbie as Rapunzel Review: For me, the only redeeming quality of this DVD is that the music backdrop is Dvorak's New World Symphony played by the London Symphony. It doesn't follow the original "Rapunzel" story. However, my twin 4 yr. old girls enjoyed it! They enjoyed the side-kicks more than the main characters. All in all, an acceptable family film.
Rating: Summary: Wonderfully Superb Review: How you occupy your 4 year old? Buy this movie! The images & story are well done. Barbie has taken the classic & put it's own spin on it giving children something they can relate to. The only draw back to this film is that your child will want to watch it 3 or 4 times a day! My 4 year old now knows most of the lines by heart and loves singing the songs. Don't forget to grab the pc game too! It provides hours of endless enjoyment as well.
