Summary: Fails to captivate child's attention
Review: My two daughters (2.5 years and 9 months old) have enjoyed every previous release of the Baby Einstein collection. As soon as the video starts playing, they are hypnotised and remain fixed in the presentation, frequently laughing and describing what they see. However, the latest release of Baby Newton has not captivated their attention at all. It seems like the old formula of using everyday objects was far more successful. The special effects in the new version failed the viewers test.

Summary: Loves it!
Review: My one year old daughter loves this new addition. We have three others from the collection and yes this is a departure from Julie's original approach but I don't think that's bad. My daughter squeals with delight everytime the crayons pop onto the screen. Educational DVD's are the only thing that keep her busy while my husband and I try to have dinner in 30 minutes or less and this one does an outstanding job!

Summary: So Disappointed
Review: I read some of the other reviews and had to chime in. My 15 month old daughter has all the other Baby Einstein videos/DVDs and loves them. They're simple--and yet she's really learned a lot from them. Baby Newton was so disappointing and I returned it. The computer animation wasn't even good quality, and who wanted these videos to have computer animation anyway? Julie Clark's comments on the other tapes that familiar real-life objects are what engages the young viewers was so true. And then they went and messed with a good formula. One of the most shocking things was that the video is supposed to teach shapes. But then because they were using 3-D animation, they called a sphere a circle; a cube a square, etc. So, the information being imparted isn't even accurate. I hope they learn from this mistake, and if there other any others in the works that they return to the original format.

Summary: Different, but definately worth it
Review: The first time me and my one year old daughter sat down to watch this, I was skeptical. Disney had changed from the format of all previous Baby Einstein videos. Gone were the kids; not as many puppets. I thought to myself, there is no way this video is as good as the others. I was wrong. My daughter loves this video. Now that she is learning to talk, she specifically asks for this video. She loves the crayons, and the lion. Often immitating the lion by making her own little roar. The crayon animation is computer generated, so it looks a bit out of place compared to the other videos. But, the change seems to work well with kids, even if us parents don't find it nearly as entertaining (which is why I give it 5 stars; my little girl loves this video!)

Summary: Scared!
Review: This video scared my two year old grandson. The clown and the crayons had him holding on to me and he wouldn't let go. The scene with the dog being bombarded with the balls had him in tears! This is not the Baby Einstein series he has grown to love. Disney has ruined it. I will not buy any more of the videos with the Disney influence. I'll stick with the old ones he loves and adores.

Summary: Disappointed in Baby Newton
Review: My daughter loves all of the series, from "Baby Einstein" to "World Animals". When we noticed the "Disney" distribution we became concerned because there were some changes in the later videos - more animation and less puppets and children. The latest, "Baby Netwon" is a good idea, but all of the CGI left our daughter fidgeting within a few minutes into the movie. The patterning is there, but the "Live Music" is not very good, and the CGI does not captivate little minds. I wrote to Julie Aigner Clark with my concern that Disney had influenced this video, taking away the charm. She said she had full control of it and that it was before the sell-out to Disney. She said that the next one should be more "traditional" and hopefully our daughter would like it more. I feel that in defense of the video, shapes are abstract concepts to teach to children, and my daughter *does* recognize circles and squares now and can draw circles (20 months). So the video has "sunk in" so to speak. However, it was not as good as the previous videos. I'll give them one more try, but the Sesame Street videos seem to captivate my daughter more now than the latest from the Baby Einstein Company.

Summary: A little different than the rest, but still excellent!
Review: I was somewhat disappointed to see such a low rating for this DVD! My daughter has been viewing these DVDs since about 4 weeks of age and has always loved them. I will admit, when I first saw the "Disney" opening at the beginning, I was a little skeptical and became moreso when I saw the opening segment featuring Disney-like animation. HOWEVER, my daughter (just turned 1 year old) was the ultimate judge of this DVD and she went completely bonkers! While I will admit that the format does stray slightly from the original Baby Einstein series, my daughter doesn't seem to mind one bit and now seems to actually prefer this DVD over some of her old favorites (Baby Mozart & Bach). This DVD produces nothing but squeals of delight from my daughter, especially the scene where the dog gets some balls thrown his way... after all, he doesn't get hurt !!! Remember to watch DVD's with your little ones the first few times so they can monitor your reactions to scenes and props which they may not fully grasp yet. In summary, if you are a fan of Baby Einstein, I think you and your little one will enjoy this DVD... just keep in mind that change can be a good thing (and in our case, prevents boredom through repetition).

Summary: Disappointed
Review: I'm usually not resistent to change...however, after viewing this video I'm reminded of the old saying "if ain't broke, don't fix it". This video mainly consist of animations and fast paced lyrics that are almost unintelligible--clearly a departure from Mrs. Clark's previous productions. The puppets and classical music appeared to have added as an afterthought...perhaps to appease long time fans. If Baby Newton is going to be the new standard, then I will not be purchasing future products.

Summary: My Child Cried Also!
Review: I previously posted this video as a 3 star rating by mistake. But I have to say, if the video scares and makes my child cry, I'm certainly not going to show it to him. Hence, it gets only one star from me, no matter how well done the other segments are. I certainly cannot recommend it.

Summary: I'll Stick With the Others, Thank You.
Review: I have to agree with most of the other reviewers and say that I prefer the older "pre-Disney" videos. My child certainly is not enthralled by the animated scenes, and neither am I. It comes perilously close to what I don't like about most children's cartoons.
In addition, there is a segment in Baby Newton that traumatizes my 19 month old. He'll watch the video, then a scene will come on featuring a dog that is basically assaulted with lots of balls. My son will burst into tears and it takes several minutes to calm him down. Don't they test these videos with kids before they put them on the market?
