Rating: Summary: Disney at its best! Review: I am fourteen, but I still love this movie. I first saw it when it came out in theaters, as I have with practically every other Disney animated feature that has come out recently. This one is by far the best, to me it's better than Beauty and the Beast, which was nominated for an Oscar. Everytime I see this movie I want to cry, crying at an animate movie - I used to think it was impossible.A girl from China cutting her hair and going to war, something that nobody had ever done before, and working her way up, learning skills that she had never known before. The animation is breathtaking - especially with a DVD. The DVD also has the options of English, Spanish, and French, which can be helpful if somebody is studying the language, they can just make the charaters speak whatever language, and then have the English subtitles on so that they are practicing while watching a movie. If you are a Disney fan, and you like stories about people doing amazing things that everybody said that they couldn't do, then this is a movie for you.
Rating: Summary: We Love Mulan! Review: My entire family-- including aunts, uncles and grandparents-- watched "Mulan" last Christmas and loved it. The story, a young Chinese girl fights in her injured father's place against the Hun army, is more complex than many animated movies. The nuances about culture, family honor, ethics and values, and how to take risks that others might not take, add strong issues to the plot and sub-plots. Above all, "Mulan" is amusing, a good story, adn fast-paced. I enjoyed the music, which is rare for me. I also loved how feisty Mulan was. And I sure didn't blame her for falling for the guy-- he was so CUTE!
Rating: Summary: Favourite Disney Movie Review: This is my all time favourite in Disney movies! I saw the ad about it my first thought was BORING, but taking my little sister to the movies and Mulan being the only movie showing at that time, we went to see it. I laughed through the entire movie, even more than my then six year old sister, which is actually pretty embarrassing considering it is a cartoon. Though I think this is not one directed just at children, it's directed at the more mature audience as well. I loved it! It's in my video collection.
Rating: Summary: Video artifacts Review: I enjoyed this movie (given that it's typical Disney), but the video transfer is definitely not the 4.5 that Widescreen Review gives it. There are terrible artifacts throughout the movie (these are particularly prominent because it is animated and thus the artifacts are more noticeable). I expect this is because they compressed the picture more than usual to fit both 4:3 and letterbox onto one side of the DVD. For people wanting to collect this movie, I definitely suggest waiting for an anamorphic version of the movie with good compression.
Rating: Summary: Drooling for Mulan Review: I guess this is as good a place to admit it as anywhere, but I've actually got the hots for Mulan! The same thing happened a few years ago with Pocahontas. Disney keeps churning out these extremely attractive female cartoon characters and poor benighted souls like me are left to pick up the pieces. At least with real movie stars, we can always fantasize about someday meeting them on the street and striking up a conversation, but Mulan will always remain out of touch. Anyway, back to the story. It's well made and interesting because it shows that Disney is waking up to the fact that the Sleeping Giant itself is waking up. There are over a billion people over there who need to be woven into Disney's world view and this is a great way to do it. The bad guys are the Huns, but, as with a lot of Disney villains, they are actually quite likeable, as long as they don't touch a hair on the head of my sweet little Mulan, that is.
Rating: Summary: My favourite Disney film Review: This is definetely a film I'll watch again and again. I'm too old for most Disney movies, but this one is brilliant. It's not just or even mainly for little kids, as it's got a lot of complicated ideas in it which will probably be lost with them. Mulan follows the story of China being invaded by the Huns and a Chinese girl, Mulan, dressing up as a boy and going to war in her father's place because he is too old to fight. This is treason and if she is found out she will be killed. The film is a mix of humorous, sad and dramatic parts which works really well, and there is barely a dull moment; my list of 'favourite parts' covers almost the whole film, the only part that drags a bit is with the ancestors' spirits, as it just seems to lag a little there, with Mushu the only one being really funny. All the songs are great, the best ones that come to mind are 'Reflection.' and 'The Girl we're Fighting For.' but all the others are good, too. Mulan is a very strong character matched only, I think by Pocahontas in Disney films, but I prefer Mulan. The animation is also stunning, the scenes at Mulan's house and also in the parade near the end of the film are the best. This is a film I recommend to anyone even if like me you thought you were growing out of Disney films. It beats even my previous favourite,Pocahontas. This film actually lives up to its advertisment as 'a film the whole family can enjoy,' as most Disney films don't.
Rating: Summary: Good, but standard Disney flick Review: Even though it follows the standard Disney formula this is a decent animated film with a beautiful artistic style. Eddie Murphy provides a few laughs and it's great to see a strong female lead. As a dvd the picture and sound are great, but that's about all you get, it would have been nice to see some more extras like commentary and conceptual artwork, etc.
Rating: Summary: An exciting adventure from Disney Review: "Mulan" is a good movie. An order is called that states that one man from every family has to participate in a war after China has been invaded. Mulan is a young Chinese woman, and she doesn't think it's safe for her father to go to the war. She pretends to be a man to make it to the war. While there, a small red dragon keeps a watch over her and gives her pointers while she trains and then finally goes to war. All will not be easy for Mulan, she has to keep everybody from finding out that she's not really a man while participating in battle. "Mulan" is one of the best Disney movies that have came out in the last few years. Parts of it are funny, but it's best for being a great adventure and action cartoon. I didn't get bored the whole movie. It also has some of the best effects for any of the Disney movies, not counting the 3D ones. When you see the avalanche occur and the end of the movie when people in the background are holding up small lights, you'll know what I mean with the effects. I recommend anybody who likes Disney movies to get "Mulan."
Rating: Summary: This is a great family movie and... Review: a beautifuly drawn and "decorated" film. Disney always leaves out major details though... Like in Hercules, his mother, Hera, was evil and there was no magic potion or two little devil doods who followed the undertaker around. It's just what Disney does! They take a good tale, or legend, or whatever you want to call it, and take some things out and put some things in. This is a GREAT movie and I would recommend it to anyone who likes warm, fuzzy, funny family flicks. (P.s. Mushu and that Cricket kid did not need to be there, but they where there to make it cuter and funnier, and the party at the end was simply for comic relief.)
Rating: Summary: Bah, a big disappointment Review: Disney has done it again: transforming a wonderful legend into a pointless and silly comedy. I thought this would be a strong feature but it's often ridiculous (The ancients spirits doing a party...). If you're interested in a film dealing with asian culture, choose Mononoke Hime.
