Rating: Summary: Wonderful! Review: "The Little Mermaid" has to be the best Disney film EVER! Ariel is the greatest heroine...and while Mulan (whom some think is better than Ariel ) is a strong, real girl...she just didn't have the same magic that Ariel and Jasmine had. Another thing...I really didn't like "Beauty and the Beast"! It was so dark...the broadway version (With Susan Egan as Belle--SO MUCH better than Paige O'Hara) was better. I dunno. The Little Mermaid is TEN TIMES better than BATB. Plus, "Part of your World" is the most beautiful song in the whole world. The whole score is just magical. "The Little Mermaid", "Aladdin", "Pocahontas", and "Hercules" are the true hits of Disney. Definately buy TLM!
Rating: Summary: best movie Review: This is the best Disney movie I have ever seen!
Rating: Summary: W(h)et your Appetite for Disney Here!! Review: I'd been looking for this video for quite awhile for my daughter, who was anxious to see "Ursula" after collecting some plastic likenesses of her. ................. I love the Disney witches, and collect them with my daughter. Ursula is one of the best villains ever created. She's right up there with "Maleficent", "The Evil Queen"/"Old Hag" and "Cruella DeVille". She is wonderfully animated, and appropriately voiced with the deep guttural tone of Pat Carroll. Her scenes in the movie are by far, my favorite ones. I also like Sebastian the cranky, but sweet crab who helps Ariel's Dad, King Triton, look out for his landlubber daughter................."The Little Mermaid" is infinitely watchable and not too scary like some Disney movies eg. 101 Dalmatians. That one in particular gave my daughter fears for months (see my review). I feel strongly, that unless indicated otherwise, a "childrens" G-rated movie should be happy, and this one is.................... If you want to get swept away by Disney, "The Little Mermaid" is the film to choose. Although it is a more recent entry, it is very reminiscent of the high quality, and uniqueness found in their earlier filmography. "The Little Mermaid" quickly gained status as a classic for this reason, and just as quickly, it should gain a permanent spot in your film library too.
Rating: Summary: UNDER THE SEA Review: The Little Mermaid has got to be the BEST Disney film ever made. It was my personal favorite when I was younger and remains my favorite to this day. The music is also great. Ariel, the daughter of King Triton, yearns to be "Part of That World" above the water. When she rescues and falls in love with the handsome Prince Eric, Ariel gives her voice to the wicked sea witch Ursula in exchange for human legs. I can't imagine any child who has not seen this film yet, but if YOUR child hasn't (or if you haven't for that matter), RUSH NOW and BUY IT ASAP! Don't even worry about "renting" it first. Just buy it. You know you want to. You know it's that good!! Take my word. I'm a Disney fanatic, but TLM is the best!!
Rating: Summary: Disney's The Little Mermaid - Limited Issue DVD Review: The 3rd Disney Classic added to my DVD collection, "The Little Mermaid" was really a big accomplishment for Disney. Since it was their first true classic in many, many years. Even though it does not have the same feel as the one's that Walt Disney overlooked himself, it is appealing and fits well among the top Disney films of all time. I was a little disapointed at the Disc's picture quality, but the Dolby Digital 5.1 sound is fine for the film. I guess this is fine for the time being, since this film was selected to be part of Disney's "Platinum Editon" Line, I'm sure under that banner the DVD will be an ulitmate collectable. The Double - Oscar winning "Little Mermaid" would be a great addition (but there are better ones) to any DVD collection.
Rating: Summary: A TRUE DISNEY MASTERPIECE! Review: All the music, fun and excitment under the sea returns in this special edition of one of Disney's most beloved film. Ariel, the fun-loving and mishievous mermaid,is enchanted with all things human. Not listening to her father's order to stay away from the world out of the sea,she swims to the surface and,in a terrible storm, she rescues the prince of her dreams.Since Ariel is so determined to be human, she makes a deal with the sinister seawitch,Ursula, and trades her lovely voice and mermaid fins for legs. With her chatty friend,Flounder and her reluctant chaperone Sebastian, the reggae-singing Caribbean singing crab,at her side,Ariel without no voice must win the prince's love and save her father's kingdom from Ursula. A MUST SEE FOR EVERYONE! LITTLE KIDS WILL WET THIER PANTS LAUGHING AND SINGING!
Rating: Summary: A Fun Film For Family and Friends! (three times fast...) Review: Let me preface this review with a simple statement about myself: I am hardcore. I like bloody-death movies, and horrible stories that defy the human will to comprehend. I like Stephen King and George Romero and Dario Argento. And I LOVE The Little Mermaid. [grin] There is a charming, innocent quality to the music of this film that breaks through even the hardest of critical hearts. It came at the beginning of a streak of wonderful animated movies from Disney, including Beauty and the Beast and The Lion King. Sporting no super-celebrity voices or Elton John soundtrack, The Little Mermaid nonetheless created a new archetypal genre in musical film. Try this: Stand in the middle of a crowd of people (friends or strangers, doesn't matter), and sing a few bars of 'Part Of That World'. Invariably, you will receive applause, smiles, cheers, from everyone, excepting maybe a few teen punks who really did enjoy the performance, but are too 'cool' to admit it. [another grin] It is a classic story. You'll love it, your kids will love it, your boy/girlfriend will thank you for it, and you can use it as I do to prove that you're not TOO terrible a person in your cinematic tastes!
Rating: Summary: Disney's Saviour Review: The Little Mermaid was Disney's saviour after a series of unsuccessful films like the Black Cauldron and Oliver. Thank god for Howard Ashman and Alan Menken bringing a style of animation to a new time high with the likes of Beauty and the Beast and Aladdin. The tale is of Ariel, the mermaid who longs to be a human. The Little Mermaid is a wonderful tale surrounded by fabulous characters like the sea witch Ursula, the loyal servant Sebastian and the trusting friend, Flounder, and encaptulated in marvalous songs like "Under the Sea" and "Kiss the Girl." From the opening scenes of dolphins playing with a sailing ship to the colourful delights of "Under the Sea," The Little Mermaid is a must for any collection. Of particular note to Australian customers, the original closing credits score on the R4 version has been replaced by trashy up beat versions of some of the more successful songs from the movie. As far as I am aware, the R1 has not suffered from the same knife and retains Menken's Academy Award winning score.
Rating: Summary: One of my favorites Review: This was one of my favorite movies when I was younger, and will always be one of my favorites. I love the animation, and the singing. Everything about it was great. This is a must see for kids and adults alike.
