Rating: Summary: Finally Review: I am so(...) happy I don't have to watch Jem with scratchy video tape interference anymore! It is AMAZING to watch this come in clear and with a clear audio stream. I won't go into how awesome Jem is of course, because if you are reading this review, then you are probably already a fan. The extra's are really interresting and both the writer and the voice of Jem would gladly do it again if they could. So keep those online petitions going people! The writer and voice actor are on our side!!! BRING BACK JEM! BRING BACK JEM!
Rating: Summary: Truly Outrageous! Review: All I gotta say is -- I'm gonna pray and bow down before Rhino until I die from this world; releasing JEM on dvd is perhaps one of the greatest business decisions ever. JEM was one of the greatest cartoon series of all time; it had depth, charisma, humor, glamour, and mega-fun all meshed in one. Not to mention, the music videos were nothing short of amazing. I still sing JEM tunes to this day....I reccomend all JEM fans to buy this DVD set.
Rating: Summary: This is the best news I ever! Jem on DVD!!! Review: Okay, I'm a 27 year old man excited about Jem coming to DVD. When I logged onto Amazon and saw this DVD set come up under "Things Recommended", a huge smile came to my face. When I was a kid, I loved the Jem cartoon (though my mother hated when I'd watch it, as she thought it was for girls and preferred me watching GI Joe, Thundercats, or He-Man...which was a show about a burly man running around in his underpants, so go figure). If you don't know what Jem is, let me tell you. It is, in two words, Truly Outrageous. (...) It's just that good! My favorite episodes are the Jem Jam shows, where Jem recruits big 80s stars based on people like Tina Turner, Madonna, Springstein, and Stevie Wonder to help her with a fundraiser. I also like the episodes centered around Jem filming a movie and then later being nominated for an Oscar. The Jem series always tried to riff on 80s stars and culture to make Jem feel real. So much so, in fact, that American Idol always reminds me of a Jem episode...since Battles of the Band and record-selling/voting contests were such a big part of Jem. The music is great, the stories are excellent, and the show was a lot of fun. Now that it's coming to DVD, I can finally see this show in quality format...not the crummy VHS tapes I have now. This is the best day ever! Jem is truly outrageous, and I am comfortable enough in my manhood to admit that.
Rating: Summary: Totally Amazing DVD Set Review: I would have never thought the day would come when this animated series would be released as it has in this awesome DVD set. I hope to own more seasons of Jem and the Holograms as soon as possible. The 5.1 mix is a very nice touch, you really notice in the opening title sequence. No question for any fan worth every cent.(Even if we are taking back our childhoods)
Rating: Summary: Girl Glam at its Best... Review: Well, it's finally here: "JEM" has at long last been released on DVD. Our imploring petitions apparently touched the big guys at Rhino Home Video and they responded with a 4-disc boxed set of the first and second seasons of everyone's favorite girl glam-rock show. Sales of said seasons are the determining factor to the release of the rest of the series, so everyone who wrote in to Rhino should put their money where their pens are and support the JEM effort and buy this DVD set. For those of you who are unfamiliar with JEM, nostalgia will not be able to color your glasses as it has for the rest of us, but considering the quality of the program and the purity of its message, you will find yourselves pleasantly surprised if you decide to plunge into the Holograms' world. A diverse palette of characters populates this 80s flashback: businesswoman Jerrica Benton at the center of it all; and her holographic alter-ego, Jem, filling out the glitz and glamour of the series. Devoted, perpetually confused boyfriend, Rio, trips along after them both, and loyal friends, the Holograms, supply support and strength amidst adventures galore. Rival bands, The Misfits (and, in Season Three, The Stingers--my personal favorite of the three groups) create just enough angst for the show to carry something of a soap-opera feel. It's fun, bubblegum addiction peppered with "music videos" featuring original, sing-along music. What more could you ask for in an animated series? Personally, I was a bit disappointed that Rhino didn't resurrect some of the original photo-realistic artwork that was splashed across all of the JEM propaganda in the mid-80s, but that doesn't take away at all from the content of the boxed set they produced. Lots of extra features and commentaries, and an option to play the JEM "music videos" straight through: the quality you'd expect and all that the fans have been clamoring for. If the Third Season makes it to DVD (please, please!) it would be a nice touch if they put out a "JEM" soundtrack CD to go with it... but that's just a fan dreaming. Thank you, Rhino! The truly outrageous JEM lives again, and I couldn't be happier.
Rating: Summary: Glamor, Glitter, Fashion and Fame! Review: I just received my set today and it's Truly Outrageous! The DVD art isn't the best, but the extras and the quality of the DVDS more than make up for that. The episodes themselves have the bumpers that they used to go and come back from commercials which is so cool! The other Special Features include Commentary by series writer/ executive producer Christy Marx, Interview with Christy Marx, Interview with speaking voice of Jem/ Jerrica- Samantha Newark, Play song feature (it plays all of the music videos), Jem Public Service Announcements, and exerpts from the Jem series bible. I can't begin to express the quality of the DVDs. The menus are really beautiful and the picture is better than I remember when Jem was originally on tv. I highly recommend purchasing this DVD set so that the 3rd season can be released as well. Plus, I promise you, it's money well spent. ** In response to the problems some are having: My "World Hunger Shindig" episode is perfectly fine. Everything is synched up and looks great. I did have a problem on the "Starbright: Colliding Stars" episode where the recap voice over started to repeat itself during the episode, but it only happened the first time I watched, and hasn't happened since. Keep in mind this is show is almost 20 years old, so there are going to be some glitches, and I think Rhino did everything they could to fix any problems. The quality of the DVDs is amazing, and I'm a hardcore Jem fan and animation student, so I know what I'm talking about.
Rating: Summary: I got them from Amazon yesterday WONDERFUL!!! Review: These DVD's of Jem Season 1 & 2 are TRULEY OUTRAGEOUS!!!! Awesome! I watched them until about 11 p.m.lastnight It brought back such memories of when my sisters' and I, would watch Jem as little girls! It comes in a really cute DVD holder that's all in pink and when you open it It has pictures of Rio and Jem kissing, The Misfits and of course the holograms. It has 4 dvds' and has about 21 episodes on it! My opinion? It's worth every penny! I hope the makers of He-man and She-re follow on the band wagon! What are they waiting for? They will profit big time! There are so many Fans out there myself included!
Rating: Summary: The show gets 5 stars, this set only gets 4. Review: I loved this show as a kid and still do, but this DVD set has some issues: First, the cover is fine but the artwork inside/outside the rest of the package is horrible--looks like a three-year old tried to draw pictures of the characters! The episode guide inside has typos and is very plain. The DVD picture has very good quality for such an old cartoon, but the soundtrack is a little weak compared to the videos with the sound level changing at times. The menus are very simple. Each episode includes those segues that come before and after commericials ("Jem will be right back after this commercial break/and now back to Jem") which can become distracting after a while. Some episodes have extra footage not seen on the videos, which is nice, but some other bits from the videos are edited out. All the songs have extended scene (...) Overall I would recommend this set to all fans of the show (...) and to anyone looking for a good show for kids. If you're the picky type, this may not be for you.
Rating: Summary: Truly Outrageous...almost Review: I've been waiting for Jem to be released on DVD for the last few years. Finally, the wait is over. The audio and video quality is amazing, as are the storylines, animation, and music! I am in awe. However, there is trouble in paradise: There are some audio problems with the episode "The World Hunger Shindig" on disc 2. The reprise of the song "We Can Make a Difference" at the end of the episode is mixed in a bizarre way. Also, the vocal tracks in both of the songs "Gimme Gimme Gimme" and "Share a Little Bit of Yourself" are totally out of synch with the music tracks. Please don't let one glitchy episode ruin an otherwise amazing animated series and 4-disc DVD boxed set. You will be blown away!
Rating: Summary: awesome seasons Review: This collection is great! It has 4 commentaries on episodes 1, 13, 23, and 26 by christy marx. you have the option to view videos by theirselves. it has interveiws with christy marxs and samantha newark (jem's speaking voice)8 public service announcements and excerts from the jem bible which is bios for the characters. picture quality and sound are great! there are two things wrong however, on disc 2 episode 2 the duet of the misfits and jem the music is faster than the singing so jem is singing over the misfits music and vice versa. and on disc 3 while watching the videos by theirselves i noticed that they left out "jack take a hike". but those are very minor things and i'm just happy jem is on dvd. and all in all this collection is so worth buying!!!
