Review: The Princess Bride on DVD! This is the most romantic, exciting, funny, and grab-your-interest/hold-on-tight movie of our generation. With tongue firmly planted in cheek, Goldman's story is delivered by the perfect cast, making the characters believable in an unbelievably quotable film. Heart-breaking that Andre has gone to that wrestling arena in the sky, alas Buttercup's Baby may never see Silver Screen. Buy this movie!

Summary: A chick flick? A guy's movie? It's 2 for the price of one!
Review: This may be my favorite movie of all time. It appeals to everyone, male or female, tall or short, of any age and background. Yes, it's a love story, but it's full of witty remarks and sword fights, and characters with personalities it is impossible not to love. And to top it all off, it ends well! Watch it with a date, with your family, by yourself... just watch it!

Review: There is no need to tell anyone at any age anything about this movie, except get it, watch it, treasure it and share it with everyone you know. This movie is everything good about life rolled into about two hours, and in the same time everything bad is destroyed. Feel good, feel young, feel loved, feel alive - just watch this one.

Summary: Immensely entertaining post-modern take on the fairytale.
Review: Combining dead-on perfect casting, superb direction, an impeccable comedic script and sumptuous visuals, The Princess Bride is a marvellous piece of cinematic storytelling that, thanks to its brilliant combination of childlike wonder and adult sarcasm (that in itself being a great feat), is accessible to viewers of all ages.

The enchanting Robin Wright is wonderful in the title role, with her expressive face and aura of melancholy. Her accent is so convincing that for years I actually thought she was English. (she's from California.) Cary Elwes' cocky, eccentric turn as Westley, the dashing swordsman with a smart mouth, is a stereotyped persona that remains with him to this day, but it works beautifully in this film. Mandy Patinkin and Wallace Shawn add their impeccable comic timing as alcoholic swordsman Inigo and the viciously arrogant Vizzini, and Andre the Giant is lovable as "rhyme-loving giant Fezzik". And The Princess Bride sports two great movie villains in Chris Sarandon's Prince Humperdinck and Christopher Guest's Count Rugen, both evil to the core but so charismatically played by the actors that they come off as truly worthy opponents to the chivalric Westley and Inigo. William Goldman is of course a demigod in the world of screenwriting, his lines sharp and his narrative tight and engrossing, while Rob Reiner's comic-book execution fits the tone of the story perfectly without sacrifice moments of tension, drama, or depth. High points: Goldman wrote in his screenplay "one of the two greatest swordfights in modern movies" and Reiner delivers with Westley's duel with Inigo; the encounter with Miracle Max and his wife Valerie (Billy Crystal and Carol Kane in delightful cameos); Fezzik's wrestling match with Westley; the nail-biting entrance of the R.O.U.S.; the hilarious meeting on the castle wall; Westley's showdown with Vizzini.

This movie belongs in any collection.

Summary: Great characters make this a film to own
Review: This film is not what you expect. Just when you think you know what's coming next it throws another often hilarious curve ball at you.

I especially love how the story is repeatedly interrupted as young Fred Savage asks his grandfather, Peter Falk, such questions as, "Is this story going to have a lot of kissing in it?"

Complete with screaming eels, Rodents of Unusual Size, Fezzik the Giant (Andre the Giant), Inigo Montoya (Mandy Patinkin), and Miracle Max (Billy Crystal), it's a high-spirited and humorous retelling of the fairy tales we remember as children. The film is enjoyed by young and old alike.

Summary: Avoid this movie at all costs.
Review: The most annoying collection of bad jokes/puns/gags ever seen on celluloid. The humor is dry, at best, and vaguely vaudvillian. And if Buttercup has perfect breasts, them I'm Rod Steiger. Could someone please let me know who decided to give Andre the Giant a speaking role? The only remotely redeeming scene is the Wesley/Montoya swordplay, and it too is a bit tedious. The fact that this movie was even released is inconceivable.

Summary: The Best Family Video Around!
Review: This has been my family's favorite video for years and we'd LOVE to see it released on DVD. The first time I tried to purchase it it was in moratorium on VHS--we waited forever and spent the cost of the tape several times over in rentals.

The plot is wonderful, imaginiative, witty and laugh-out-loud funny. The cast is amazing--you'll find yourself mentally snapping your fingers trying to figure out the names of several of the characters. Rob Reiner directs and leaves his signature all over the film with subtle humor adults will pick up and lots of physical comedy the kids will adore. PLEASE RELEASE THIS ADVENTURE ON DVD!
