Summary: this is what started it all...
Review: The very first video I ever bought!

I would say to people.."You haven't seen it? We have to fix that up quick smart"!

Everyone I loaned this movie to has loved it. It has a handful of zany, lovable characters, ROUS's (rats of unusual size), sword fights, giants, a six-fingered man, torture, true love, revenge...just to name a few.

This is a timeless story and one that I have watched it many, many times before... a movie where you will find yourself reciting the lines before too long. I never get sick of watching this movie - I bet you won't either - catch it now on DVD. You won't be sorry!

Summary: A classic!
Review: When I first saw this movie, I was 7 years old. It not only enchanted me then, but has been one of the few movies that I enjoy as much now as I did then. I have seen it enough to recite all the words yet I have never grown tired of it. It is well acted, written and directed. The dialog is clever, the movie never drags and it is incredibly funny. I would recomend this movie to all ages, I think it is appropriate and enjoyable for all. Definitely one of my top 5 favorite movies of all time.

Summary: One of the 5 best films I've ever seen.
Review: I have seen countless movies over the years, but this is one of the few that I find bears repeated watching. Even for those people whose hearts have been hardened against love, this will make a romantic out of you. While the plot may seem a bit clichéd, this is well-executed by the brilliant acting of Carey Elwes, Robin Wright, Mandy Patinkin, and the late André the Giant; the truly inspired directing of Rob Reiner; and the incredible writing of the script make this film truly timeless and great. Finally, the humor in it is well-timed and on the mark.I highly recommend this movie.

Summary: All time favorite!
Review: Just to state the staying power of this film, I recently attended a sci-fi-fantasy convention, where I picked up one of those "Hello" name tags. It was already filled in. It said:

HELLO my name is

INIGO MONTOYA. YOU KILLED MY FATHER. PREPARE TO DIE.

They had sold like hotcakes! I was lucky to get the second-to-last one! They say, above, that this movie was released in 1986, sold on video in 1987. I find, therefore, that time has flown. It hasn't aged a day. It's a delight and always will be, for anyone with a sense of fantasy and a sense of humor! In fact, it's a sort of litmus test movie for me...if you saw it and DIDN'T like it, you won't like me.

Regardless of your age, if you have a wry but hopeful outlook on life, and a happy disposition in general, you're going to love this. A great family film!

Summary: Strive towards this
Review: If i were to write a fantasy book or novel, I would strive towards writing one of this calibur. This story of Wesley and Buttercup rivals all other fantasy stories in its field for its simplicity and it's depth. The characters are believable and gratifying; the evil horrifying and the love beautiful.

I first saw this story in movie form and watched it 3 times that first sitting. There was this element to it, this element of innocence: the world is black and white, good or bad in this story, there is no grey area. This was so comforting to me, and to all viewers because of the stark contrast to the real worlds grey areas and unknowns. Here watching this movie, you knew who was bad, which characters to hate, and which characters to love: everything is there for you to enjoy, it is your duty to sit in front of the TV and do so.

It would be very tough to contain all that this movie is in a simple review of 1,000 words or less. There is a spark when you watch this movie, such that you can't just watch it once. . .please watch this movie regardless of your age, gender, whatever. Everyone who watches this movie will fall in love with it.

And if the movie just isn't enough, there is a book edition by S Morgenstern that is just as good, but a little more funny than the movie. . .

Summary: it's truly is time
Review: I was so happy to see this being released on DVD. it's a definate must own. This movie combines all the best elements of a movie...sword fighting, mystery, suspense, horror, and eeeewwww, dare I say...Love.. this is one of those movies that you will see and either love it or just don't get it. There are a few familiar faces you'll recongnize right off the bat, and settle into the rest. but I highly recommend this movie, at least once to say you tried it. This is the equivilant of the rocky horror picture show, same following..and I think that it isn't bad for the kids to watch either (probably 7yrs or so and up, they may think that the kissing part is yukkie!)

Summary: They Lived Happily Ever After
Review: The first time I saw this movie was at a party with my friends and many of us had not seen it before. The beginning starts out looking like it will not be a comedy, except for the scenes between the boy and his grandfather. Then as you go on, it gets incredibly funny. We were literally falling off the couch laughing. I ended up quoting it for the rest of the weekend (and beyond), and so did my friends. We just had to glance at each other and say "Hello. My name is Inigo Mon..." and before we'd finish we'd be laughing incredibly hard. To add to all the humor there is a touching fairy tale happening here, and as with all fairy tales, it's got a happy ending. I think anyone would enjoy this movie, and it is a definite buy. The cast does a great job. Some of them hadn't had comedic roles before, and they are still great. If you haven't seen it already, go get this movie!

Summary: Action, adventure, true love, and fun!
Review: THE PRINCESS BRIDE is an outstanding movie. The cast of Elwes, Wright, Patinkin, and, yes, Andre the Giant, along with a strong supporting cast provide a chemistry of love and loathing, honesty and deceit, and hope and hopeless all in a context of fantasy that is a real winner.

You will be carried away to the kingdom of Florin when a grandfather comes to visit his sick grandson as he reads the tale of "The Princess Bride" to him. I particularly enjoy the young boy's occasional interuptions and the grandfather's intermittent commentaries.

As you are carried along in the story you will meet Buttercup the beautiful farm girl, Westley the farm boy, the regal(?) but sadistic Prince Humperdink and his cruel henchman Count Reugen, a self-proclaimed brilliant little man named Fezzini, a quiet master swordsman named Inego, a gentle giant named Fezzik, a retired and miracle worker who lacks confidence and a host of other likely and likable characters. They combine to make for good fun.

There is some potentially offensive language and occasional violence, such as sword play, bonkings on the head and such. It is quite watchable though.

5 stars for watchability and fun. The book is also excellent (5 stars there, too).

Have fun and watch out for the fire swamp!

Summary: Classic tale
Review: If life were predictable, this movie would have stayed on the shelf as far as I am concerned. The title and the original cover virtually screamed sappy love story. (Well, OK, it is, but it's more than that). The only reason I saw it the first time was that it was the movie-nite offering at my sci-fi club. I was immediately taken by it.

THe story is neatly bookended by Peter Falk and Fred Savage as the grandfather and grandson as Falk reads a story "The Princess Bride by S. Morganstern" to Savage who is sick in bed. At various intervals there are neat interruptions by this pair which add to the enjoyment.

The story itself centers on Westley and Buttercup as two lovers. At the beginning, Westley leaves to seek his fortune, and is supposedly killed by pirates. Buttercup is in remorse. Later, she agrees to marry the prince of the land even though she does not love him.

She is kidnapped and her 3 kidnappers are pursued by a mysterious man in black who defeats each of the three. She then finds out it is Westley who was not killed.

The rest of the story is an enjoyable struggle between Westley and the prince with plenty of engaging dialogue by great screenwiting legend William Goldman, who wrote the original novel. This is one movie that you will watch again and again.
