Rating: Summary: A Classic that needs to be re-released in video and DVD Review: Given the time constraints of trying to put the all-time greatest fantasy epic into a two hour movie, Bakshi did a wonderful job with the first half of what was to be a two film series. Some of the images and scenes in the film are classics (the battle between Gandalf and the Balrog, the death of Boromir, the battle at Helm's Deep). The music for the film is also one of its best features. Sadly Bakshi did not complete the second film. Even more sad is the fact that one cannot find a copy of this wonderful film. One that I wish to share with my nine year old son, to whom I have read The Hobbit and The Lord of The Rings as his bedtime stories. Add your voice for the call for its re-release in VHS and DVD.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Escapism for Tolkien fans, heartwarming film Review: First saw this animated adventure when I was about 8 years old and absolutely loved it and watched it time and time again. Then we got burgled and the tape was in the video recorder that got stolen. Anyway, fair play to Ralph Bakshi because I defy anyone to match his version in animation in 1978. Its fair to say he strayed chronologically and charachter wise but only slightly and alot of people have different mental pictures anyway. For me it is a classic, and like other people truely dissapointed his didn't complete with a sequel. Ralph Bakshi captured my imagination and stayed with the main plot of the book. To cover the book completely and in detail would take a dozen films. So can anyone out there help me in obtaining a copy. I am willing and able to pay good money for one.
Rating: Summary: STOCK IT!!! Review: Seen it, want to own it
Rating: Summary: The Best Animation barr none Review: Having seen TLOTR in the Ziegfield Theatre NYC in Dolby Surround, in 1978, I have yet recovered. Nothing will replace reading the books, but the colorized animation and sound track needs to be apreciated by this next generation. Bring it Back in DVD 5.1
Rating: Summary: HELP!!!!!!!!!! Review: i last so this movie when i was ten...even before i read the books....and i really loved it.... I would die to have a copy of this video...the only thing i can remember about it was the scene about how golumn became Golumn...that scene got stuck to my head til now.....so please anyone help me...i need to get a copy.
Rating: Summary: great movie Review: My absolute favorite movie in the whole wide world.it's a shame that there wasn; a sequal. the best part about the whole movie were the songs. If you have an SNES Play the video game it has great RPG action.
Rating: Summary: sequel of sorts available Review: I absolutely loved the video Lord Of THe Rings and was extremely upset that Ralph Bakshi never made the second half...However, I recently saw 'The Return of the King' which is available on video from Amazon.com and it completes the story. The animation is excellent although some of the songs date it a bit... It is by the same team that made the animated classic 'The Hobbit' which is also excellent... So if like me, you were dissapointed Bakshi never finished the Lord sequel then checvk out Return of the King as it is purely based on the last Tolkien book and covers the ending pretty well...
Rating: Summary: Mezmorizing movie and timeless story. Review: The Lord of the Rings is a must for fantasy fans as well as fans of animation. This movie takes me away to Middle Earth and all of its fantastic places every time I see it.A remarkable achievement by Ralph Bakshi and the animation staff! Can't wait for the Trilogy! FRODO LIVES!!
