Summary: Absolutely Thrilling!!!!
Review: I first saw it in my youth and couldn't remember anything. Then one day about 4 years ago I came across the book The Lord of the Rings. It sounded familiar and I read it then Hobbit then Silmarillion and I fell in love. Then I heard of the animated movie and images of my youth came back. Only recently did I finally find it at a Hollywood Video in Houston for rent. When I saw it all my memory came back and also after reading the books I feel in love again. The dark fantasy animation was outstanding. The Nazgul and the orcs in their photocartoon selves were absolutely amazing. Though at times when the heroes or the people at the inn were animated it look kind of flawed and crappy.I still love it despite the critics.

Summary: A timeless classic
Review: I recently acquired a brand new copy of the video after searching high and low.I won it on Amazon.com auctions. My children love it as do I.I first saw it at a Carswell AFB theater in the late 70"s.I read the reason it was not finished was due to the fact that the director was not told that they(Republic picture) did not mean for him to make a sequel. He was prepared to do it. So that is why the Return of the King was rather unsophisticated in terms of its animation.I am still hoping that one day someone will make another animated version comparable to that of the Lord of the Rings.

Summary: Don't make a movie of half the trilogy w/out doing Part 2
Review: This film has awkward animation and ends halfway through the trilogy. Pretty mediocre.

Summary: Better Than I expected to be
Review: I really did enjoy this version. I had expected a rather childish version and was pleasantly surprised. The images were a lot how I imagined them from the books. the only disapointment that I had was that it did not show the whole story. It ended and I cant find the sequel.

Summary: Best animated movie ever!
Review: I have seen quite a few animated movies in my time, however, LOTR blows them all away. 1978 or 1999, the animation quality far surpasses everything else in the genre. Bakshi's innovative animation techniques are were way ahead of their time. I am curious as to what Bakshi himself has said regarding not doing a sequel. Does anyone know? I hope that the new movie that is supposedly being filmed will be faithful to the books. More than likely it will be some stupid all - star cast BS like that "Merlin" movie that was on NBC last year.
