Summary: awful
Review: this is painful to look at-avoid it like the plague-it has not much to do with the Book of the same title, except in some plot details

Summary: The Hobbit is scary
Review: The Hobbit, in my opinion, is the scariest children's movie of all time. All of the dwarves are incredibly frightening and look very similar to the stereotypical alien depiction....big eyes and over sized facial features. The music also adds to the terror, once you hear the tantric chanting. The goblins are also horrific beasts. I'm 18 years old and this is the scariest thing I have ever been a witness too. I strongly recommend not showing this to any young children.

Summary: Great Video, Lousy Reproduction
Review: This vendor's edition is washed out, grainy, and missing snippets. It looks like a bad copy from a TV broadcast. If you want to enjoy this wonderful video, buy the version from Warner Bros. Classic Tales. It is the same production reproduced properly. I'm going to see whether I can return this version for the good one.

Summary: A Good Movie If you are Young.
Review: This movie is ok,but it is more focused on littler kids. You can tell that it is by the songs and stuff. This movie doesent really go indepth on some of the key events that happen in the book. But if you dident know about all those events it's a good movie. So I sugjest that you watch the movie before you read the book, but make sure you read the book. This movie is a great gift for a younger brother or sister.

Summary: Wonderful fantasy animated fare...
Review: Rankin and Bass had the fantasy animation niche cornered and perfected in the late 70s/early 80s with a string of excellent animated flicks including adaptions of "The Last Unicorn" and "Flight of Dragons". "The Hobbit" however was probably the most ambitious considering that so many people love and have read J.R.R. Tolkien's masterpieces multiple times over and his fans are sticklers for detail. Luckily the script for this adaption is savagely faithful to original story and with the simplistic animation which does have alot of movement, beauty and a charm of its own, the book really comes to life on the small screen.

This movie along with the other two I mentioned above were not blatantly family friendly, containing some intense moments that put it in a seperate league from the watered down cliched animated fare released nowadays which seems created more to annoy parents than to try and capture their interest to. As an adult I still enjoy this movie and it makes a nice flick to watch to tide one over until the live action big budget movies start to come out starting in 2001.

Still think all animation is just for children? Well for those of us who grew up on Rankin and Bass fantasy and Unico, there's Japanese animation which should silence the doubt in all of the skeptics. Whether adult or child, if you enjoy the Tolkien books then give this quaint flick a try.

Summary: LOVED IT.....
Review: i have always been a J.R.R. Tolkien fan and i enjoyed the movie very much, actually i grew up watching it.I couldn't help but see it again. The songs in the animation was beautiful and enchanting. This is a fantastic movie for children as an introduction to J.R.R. Tolkien work, ofcourse its not like the book but still was great. If you are looking for fantasy and adventure, this is it.

Summary: Very good adaptation
Review: Unlike the failed hack job that was 'Ralph Bakshi's Lord Of The Rings' (which seems impossible to find) The Hobbit is actually a very, very good telling of the classic Tolkien tale. Made long before the days of computer animation and Disney's animation "event" films, The Hobbit is an impressive movie to watch for its visual creativity and its faithful adaptation of a detailed book in only 77 minutes.

Summary: The Hobbit is a materpiece of animation!
Review: I first saw this on television when I was just beginning the second grade, and immediately found myself swept up in the adventures Bilbo and the dwarves were having with Gandalf. John Huston did a fine job in both the role of the narrator and Gandalf, too! Of course, I wouldn't reccommend this for the very young, because the goblins who capture the dwarves and Bilbo would be cause for nightmares, as would be the case with Smaug the dragon(STILL my favorite!)and the bloody battle scene toward the end. I don't have any children, of course, but I would still wait a few years until they're at the age where they know things like this are only imaginary, and that there isn't anything grand and glorious about war, either. Overall, I would encourage them to enjoy it for what it is-- an adventure with new friends!

Summary: BAD COPY
Review: I felt compelled to let everyone know that the version available from "Movie's on Parade" is a HORRIBLE version. It looks like a copy of a copy of a copy. The color is appalling and the sound is worse. The opening song actually skips and misses some words. If you are getting The Hobbit, don't get:

Edition Details:

• NTSC format (US and Canada only) • Color, Animated, NTSC • ASIN: B00000F1MF

Get the Warner Brothers version:

Edition Details: • NTSC format (US and Canada only) • Color, HiFi Sound, Animated, NTSC • Clamshell Packaging • ASIN: B000005PE9

That is all!

Summary: one of the most entertaining Cartoon Movies ever.
Review: a Hobbit goes in search of treasure from the evil dragon smaug. i know it may be a bad adapation of the Book but it still is very awesome and never a dull moment exciting. for those who love The Last Unicorn, Oliver and Company, Dark Crystal and Neverending Story then this Movie is for you. i would also Recommend similar Movies: " Return to Oz", " Princess Mononoke", " My neighbor Totoro", " Transformers: The Movie" and " Watership Down". and this Movie is also another of my favorites.
