Summary: Beats the new XMen and Batman movies hands down
Review: I think this is the finest movie ever made in cinema history. No film has ever or ever will touch my heart as much as this one. No film can be compared to this. You cant honestly compare a silly film like XMen to this. Its like comparing chalk to cheese. You can take away my home ,my car but not my copy of Superman :The Movie

Summary: good movie
Review: This is a pretty good movie and I feel one of the better movies based on a comic book. Christopher Reeve plays Clark Kent/Superman well, the only other person who I feel plays the part well is George Reeve( T.V. Superman),Gene Hackman does a good performance of Lex Luger. Fx,acting, and directing all good to make a great movie.

Summary: Best Super-Hero Movie Ever!
Review: Anyone who can remember when this movie first came out, watching in theatres, knew they were seeing something special. This was the biggest epic to come out since Gone With the Wind! And it definitely lived up to it's billing. Despite the fact that the special effects are outdated, it's still great fun to watch. Anyone who read Superman comic books growing up will love this film. One of the best of all times, and definitely the best super-hero movie ever. And why not? It stars the biggest super-hero ever!

Summary: Superman in Retrospect
Review: I was never satisfied with this film. The early scenes where Superman grows up in adolescence are beautifully filmed and very poignant. When the film shifts focus to the adult Superman it falls into ridiculous slapstick and destroys what could have been a fine example of classic film Americana. However, on recent viewing I find Christopher Reeves' performance of honor, loyalty, integrity and love to be one of the most sincere examples of histrionics put on film. All lovers of film owe him a great debt of gratitude for his portrayal of these lost values.

Summary: Richard Donner does Superman the correct way on film.
Review: Cheers to Richard Donner for giving us a movie which is very faithful to Superman as many people have come to know him. No other movie since has done the Man of Steel justice. Not the Lois and Clarke TV show, not the three sequals, nothing. A great cast of actors make this movie so good.Christopher Reeve as Superman, Margot Kidder as Lois Lane, Gene Hackman as Lex Luthor, Glen Ford as Pa Kent, Marlon Brando as Jor-El, and Jackie Copper as Perry White, editor of the Daily Planet. Featuring an epic music score by John Williams, This movie was recently restored to a new print under direction from Richard Donner and inclues some eight minutes of new footage including a scene where Chris Reeve is at the Fortress and has a conversation with Jor-EL (Marlon Brando.)Regretfully this "Special Edition" and it's new footage kind of ruin the movie. The added scenes on Krypton do not change the fact that the planet is destroyed. It might give Brando more screen time but it delays Reeve's first apperance as Superman by many more minutes. The deleted scenes should have stayed deleted.

Summary: The best superhero film ever made!
Review: Why don't they make movies like this anymore? I recently saw this film on AMC in it's letterbox format. Everything is just about perfect. The casting, the story, and the characters. The special effects hold up extremely well today(the destruction of California for example). However, two things really stands out in this film. It has a sense of wonder and spirit. The movie actually has quite a few moving movements(Superman's failure to save Lois in time and his reaction to his failure is very heartbreaking). All this and the impeccable Christopher Reeve, quite possibly the best Superman ever. His looks and performance as Clark Kent got him the part, but as Superman, nobody can come close(Dean Cain of Lois and Clark is number two on the list). Richard Donner's(Lethal Weapon movies, Ladyhawke) best film. Watch, and you will believe a man can fly.

Summary: Film of wonderment and joy
Review: This gem of a movie is a sweeping epic which stands up to repeat viewing remarkably well for a film made between 1976-1978. From beginning to end the attention to detail and editing are superb, with excellent direction by Richard Donner. However, the stars of the show are Christopher Reeve and John Williams, whose score is perfect and which will always remain a classic. A DVD release will really showcase this stunning film and I hope that Warner Bros. have a release in the works.
