Rating: Summary: Petes Dragon Review: It's great to see this film (almost) restored to it's original roadshow version. However the list of extras on this and other web sites mentions THE RELUCTANT DRAGON and for the life of me I cannot locate it on the disc. However 2 trailers are there though no listed on the packaging.
Rating: Summary: The last good movie musical? Review: Pete's Dragon is a surprise. It is more than just an animated movie about a dragon. It is a true musical in the likes of Mary Poppins and even My Fair Lady. The songs are very memorable and well written (with the exception of Brazzle Dazzle.) The acting is over the top, but it fits very nicely with the theme of the film. The standouts are Red Buttons and Shelly Winters. The DVD transfer is excellent, however the special effects, at times, do look dated. The DVD also has a nice amount of extras. With the exception of Grease, this may be one of the last of the best live action musicals made.
Rating: Summary: It's a brazzle dazzle disc! Review: Pete's Dragon is one of the best Disney films I have ever seen, and a great flick for the kids! I know this firsthand, since I used to watch it nonstop when I was five! The songs, which include "Brazzle Dazzle Day," "It's Not Easy," and There's Room For Everyone In This World," are unforgettable, and quite hummable. But the highlight of the film has to be the dragon, Elliot! His dragon language and clumsiness are very funny at times! The new DVD release really gives Pete's Dragon the red carpet treatment. The film is presented in 1.66:1 anamorphic widescreeen, and the audio (DD 5.1!) and video have been completely restored! The disc also contains some interesting extras, such as a "Where's Elliot" game for kids, which includes facts about dragons and the making of the film, and still production photos. The menu screens are well done, each containing a memorable music track from the film! And the main menu screen which shows Elloit coming into the frame and sniffing the menu options, is funny every time I see it! If you are a fan of this film, or are looking for a great movie for your kids, I would definitely recommend buying this DVD editon of Pete's Dragon! I can only hope that Disney treats their upcoming DVD of Oliver and Company half as well as they treated this one! But for all you Pete's Dragon fans, I'm sure you'll all "follow the sun and replay this brazzle dazzle disc!"
Rating: Summary: THERE'S ROOM FOR THIS DVD IN YOUR COLLECTION! Review: What a wonderful film! I loved it with all of my heart as a kid, and I think I love it even more now (I am 23). This is the story of a young boy and his 'is he or isn't he imaginary' dragon. Ignore the critics above who embarassed themselves trying to denounce this joy (does Leonard Maltin like ANYTHING?) . Buy Pete's Dragon whether you are 1, 10 or 100 years old. The musical numbers are brilliant (and Oscar winning); among Disney's best. And the DVD! I have never purchased a Disney DVD before, but I am glad I did. I am very impressed. The transfer is so radiant and crystal clear you can see the strings holding the characters in certain "special effect" scenes. The special features are as good as you could ask for of a film of this age. They range from a Disney special study of monsters, to a rare Donald Duck short in which he tends a lighthouse. The 'Where's Elliot' game holds some bonus surprises as well. The gallery is a fun treat - seeing concept sketches and behind the scenes photos of the movie. I am thrilled with this DVD and I reccomend it for anyone who has ever loved or feel they might love this wonderful movie.
Rating: Summary: Brazzle Dazzle Widescreen Brilliance Review: This is one of my favorite films growing up, and Disney did a wonderful job restoring it for this Special Edition DVD. I like to say that I have never seen a film until I have seen it in Widescreen, and Disney was considerate enough to give us a widescreen presentation on DVD. Don't waste your time with the VHS copy; this contains excellent still frame galleries, featurettes, and that's just the tip of the iceberg. I can't wait for its "sidekick" sleeper film to come out on DVD in March, Bedknobs and Broomsticks. I thought Disney would slack off with this transfer, but they went the distance and the 5.1 Dolby Digital sountrack remaster and new print are unbelievable considering the age of the source materials (over 20 years old!)
Rating: Summary: Restored version sounds great - Why not widescreen? Review: Very enthusiastic about all the extras and the "restored" version of this Disney film. It was listed as widescreen for a long time, but now is listed as full-screen. ... That is the beauty of DVD technology.
Rating: Summary: An interesting and underrated movie Review: "Pete's Dragon" is one of the most underrated Disney movies ever made. It's one of the few Disney movies that I haven't ever heard a lot about. It's about an orphan named Pete (Sean Marshall) and his only friend Elliot, a dragon. Once Pete is adopted by some people who live in a lighthouse, the movie takes an interesting twist. I thought "Pete's Dragon" was a good movie. It's entertaining, parts of it are funny, and it even has a few good songs. If you would like to see an interesting and entertaining movie, I recommend getting "Pete's Dragon."
Rating: Summary: KEWL Review: I think it is the best movie because i got my lighthouse collecting started when i watched the movie! that is a totally good movie for adults and children and i totally recommend it!
Rating: Summary: A Classic! Review: This is one of my favorite movies. I have watched it since I was a little girl. I still watch it whenever it comes on tv. Parents, buy this for your kids. Those critics don't know what they are talking about.
Rating: Summary: Great movie Review: This is a very great movie! One of the other reveiws said why can't disney make good movies like that anymore? They are absoulutely right this is one of the greatest disney movies ever made! And by the way Helen Reddy still sang as in the late 80's.
