Summary: Terrible for small children...
Review: All the My Little Pony merchandise is heavily marketed to preschool aged children on Nick Jr. but these DVD's are far from appropriate for that age group. Why? Because the DVD's focus just a little too much on the evil aspect of 'good vs. evil'. My four year old, who is quite taken with the Pony toys, and is usually a pretty brave kid, was scared during nearly every segment that we watched. The themes are intense and weird, the imagery very scary and really, these stories are NOTHING like the cute little ponies you see in the commercials, where the emphasis is on doing their hair and going to the Pony salon etc.. If you think I'm exaggerating, check one out from the library first and then decide if you want to spend your good money on this garbage. I really think the manufacturer has a lot of nerve marketing these toys to the small children who watch Nick Jr. when there is NO WAY they could possibly enjoy these overly-scary, and frankly very bizarre DVD's. My advice is don't waste your money. Stick to Dora, Blues Clues, Stanley and Ready, Set, Learn! for your preschooler.

Summary: RETYPED TITLE SCREENS
Review: For the most part, the DVD set was fine. The main problem was that all of the text had been retyped on the title screens and end credits. They didn't even have the titles right on the 2-part edited versions of the TV specials. I clearly remember "RESCUE AT MIDNIGHT CASTLE Part 1" written in a font similar to Arial Black on the 2-part version.

The fact the they used the 2-part versions and not the original TV special version also bothered me, since those versions have a number of segments missing (specifically musical numbers) (and of course, Catrina's name is misspelled as "Katrina").

Just a few little things that bother me, like DIC and Paramount replacing older versions of their logos with the current version on their respective and various shows. It thing that, for the most part, the show should appear about as they did originally. (It's alright to add scenes, as long as nothing is removed).

Otherwise, it is good to see the episodes clear. I hope that they do things right on season 2 and "Tales", assuming they release them.

Summary: WHERES GLOW WORM
Review: I love MLP and have waited for these to come out for what seems like forever. Summary: Rhino's Animation Release of My Little Pony NOT IMPRESSIVE
Review: I recently purchased this collection of "the first season" of RHINO ANIMATION's new dvd release for "My Little Pony". As is the case with most of Rhino's DVD releases, the DVD box and disc design is unprofessional and cheaply made. The images are pixelated and obviously collected from online webpages. The sound quality is poor and does not benefit much from the DVD transfer.

If you are a fan, you are better off keeping your original My Little Pony videotapes. If you are buying this for your child, they will no doubt enjoy th My Little Pony episodes for what they are.

Summary: Missing Song on Escape From Katrina
Review: I was very disappointed that there was a song missing on Escape from Katrina (which shows how Katrina and Rex were once good and not evil). At least they had two of my favorite songs on their though (Let's Not Take a Nap and Dress Like a Dream). I rate this DVD 4 stars because the way the DVD's are packaged in the DVD's look unprofessional and the fact that there's a song missing on Escape from Katrina, which is like the best special/episode in the world!! But it's a must have if you have a little girl and you grew up with MLP :) It'll bring back so many memories :)

Summary: Terrible for small children? . . . NO WAY
Review: If you are a fan of My Little Pony you would know that the first episodes weren't so cute and cuddly as Miss "Terrible for small children" wishes it was. To say that MLP is garbage and frightening is also misleading. It is about as scary as He-Man episode! If your child is frightened by seeing a cartoon beast, than it's probably their upbringing. It is certainly not a scary cartoon, but did tone down as it became more and more popular.

Teaching my kids (and yours) about respecting nature and that life is not always happiness, fun, and pink cotton candy will help them better deal with Life. If seeing the "bad guy" on a cartoon freaks a kid out, then maybe LIFE is too harsh for them.

Summary: One lastt comment
Review: Just realized that the Episode Mish Mash Melee was not included in the set. Also, not sure why Rhino didn't just add the second season to this DVD set, because I can't see them doing a second season DVD when there is only 13 * 10 min episodes in the second season. I will email Rhino and see what they tell me. Enjoy...

Summary: Mish Mash Melee IS there, but hidden.
Review: Mish Mash Melee IS on this DVD set! However, it was not listed on the case. However, if you put the discs in and flip through the menus episode by episode, Mish Mash Melee WILL show up, and it plays just great :) I believe it is on the same disc as "The Magic Coins."

Summary: Mr. Moochic's song is missing too... ):
Review: not only is Catrina (notice spelling of her name) and Rex's song missing but so is Mr. Moochic's song when he tries to find the Rainbow of Light in Rescue at Midnight Castle. My sister and I (both avid 80s fans) were so disappointed. Also, i noticed that the voice of one pony would appear when another was talking (bad animation and timing). some of the story-lines were kind of stupid too (i guess that was just the 80s though :)
so over all i'm glad that it came out on DVD because i love the memories but it could've used some work.

Summary: good buy.
Review: This DVD collection is a good buy. Not entirely as it originally aired, but still a good series. Not all the episodes start with the correct title opening. I would have liked to see the previews of the episodes such as the one to "Escape to Midnight Castle". Which is a really nice preview. Besides these and a few more other problems, I would recommend purchasing it.
