Rating: Summary: Cinderella: Staring BERNETTE PETERS! Review: This movie was very well done. I don't think Brandy was best for the staring role. I have to agree with some of the other reviews that Bernadette Peters stole the show. I'd never seen her before I saw this movie and I think she is incredible. I love her voice. Whitney Houston also did a very good job. This version of Cinderella is very artistic. The costumes are fantastic. If you like musicals, Bernadette Peters, Brandy, Whitney Houston or artsey movies, buy this video.
Rating: Summary: ugh! Review: I rented this video for my daughter and she left the room after 20 minutes. I thought it was very weak, strange in its casting and horrible, almost unrehearsed acting. I do not recommend it.
Rating: Summary: Enchanting Remake! Review: I have to say that i absolutly loved this new Version of Cinderella. The whole cast does a steller preformance in showing the true beauty of everyone no matter what racial background they have!..i thought the sets were beautiful and Brandy & Whitney's voices were perfectly on key! BUY THE VIDEO!...its wonderful!
Rating: Summary: what? Review: I must admit, after watching the new version at a friend'shouse, I felt q that it was just strange. I really liked the prince, but the other supporting actors were kind of, well, boring. Further, the music was dull. There was nothing here new, exciting or enticing me to see it again.
Rating: Summary: Me and My 4 Year Old Love It.!!! Review: There are varied oppinions about this movie. I personally love it, as does my 4 year old who pretends she's Cinderella on a daily basis. If you don't like goofy movies you wouldn't like it. It's funny and goofy and very different than any other Cinderella movie. I love that they play out the romance much longer than Disney's version does. There are all kinds of popular stars in it and the music is catchy.
Rating: Summary: A very good Movie!! Review: I thought this was a really good movie. The songs were excelent. It was a unique way to tell the story.
Rating: Summary: Brandy could do better than this. Review: I saw Brandy perform recently in the Bay Area. She has a marvellous stage presence. Unfortunately, this awkward, and very goofy version of Cinderella does not do her talent justice. The weirdest thing about this version is the rainbow racial effect that the producer desired. It was plain dissonant, visually speaking that is. Really not very good. Other than Brandy, everyone else was average to mediocre.
Rating: Summary: Enchanting, yet flawed Review: For the most part, this updated version of the classic Rodgers and Hammerstein TV musical Cinderella was enchanting. The costumes and sets were great. Most of the performances were excellent. The songs are fine, though some of them sound suspiciously like R and B/gospel/pop tunes. As you can see, it is flawed. The revised and "modernized" script isn't very good. The message Whitney Huston delivers as the Fairy Godmother, that you shouldn't just dream something, you should do it yourself, is fine... and then she proceeds to magically provide the transportation and clothes needed for Cindy to go to the ball, while Cindy (Brandy) just stands there in awe. A bit confusing, but what would Cinderella be without her Fairy Godmother, anyway? I must say, though, that the special effects used in the transportation of a pumpkin to a coach, etc., and espicially of Cinderella's rags to a gown, were seamless and magnificent. Besides those gripes, everything's fine. The chereography's pretty good; you really feel like you're flying with Cindy and her Prince (Paolo Montalban) as they waltz together. There's great chemistry between Montalban and Brandy, both of whom give okay performances. Everyone else was okay, too, and I definitly agree that Bernadette Peters stole the show, with her over-the-top-yet-wicked portrayal of the Stepmother. She's a very gifted actress and singer. The idea of casting multi-cultural actors in the project is a good one, not a bad one. I guess what I'm saying is, see this one, but it might be a good idea to see the 1964 version with Lesley Ann Warren, as well, to get a better feeling of what R&H had in mind.
Rating: Summary: a wonderful tribute to rodgers & hammerstein Review: My children and I truly enjoyed the entire movie! I saw the movie after I taped it, because I was too busy cooking dinner to see it the first time around. When I had a chance to actually, sit down and see the movie, I was enchanted! The story is a fairy tale and the plot wasn't really there, but the staging and the songs from Rodgers & Hammerstein was simply wonderful. As a test I went out to rented the old cinderella tape with Leslie Ann Warren and I found I like the newer version much better. Although we really can't fairly rate the two movies since both sound quality and the special effects were so much better in the new version. I can say the acting seems a little better in the new version too. The old version was slow and Leslie Ann Warren is not a very strong singer and her teeth look terrible! I think it is time to put a rainbow in TV and in Hollywood! Having only one race of people is unreal and so one-sided, and this movie shows we can have every one included and it can work out wonderfully too!! Ms. Peters did steal the show and the rest of the cast was excellent! I especially hope that Mr. Montalban will continue do more musicals with that talented voice. Although the kids enjoy watching Mortal Kombat....between watching the Cinderella tape which I brought 3 copies of and each child has a copy! I hope people would watch this film and enjoy it as much as my family did, because this is a fairy tale which I wish would day happen that is that everyone is getting along and living together in hamony.
Rating: Summary: Impossible things are happening everyday! Review: As the words of the song go, this movie is a testimony to that theme! Prior to seeing this movie, I thought it would be impossible to make a movie this bad using highly paid artists. "Impossible", I thought. Then I saw this rendition of the classic Cinderella. This redefined the phrase bad movie. Awful acting and singing. Poor job overall. Not recommended.
