Rating: Summary: Thrilled about this one, very satisfied Review: I was very excited and hopeful about buying this video. After viewing it for myself, I was thrilled to find out that it covered everything I needed to know about cutting the hair on my adopted long-haired mixed breed dog. I was especially happy to finally learn how to trim the long hair on Sammy's body, particularly the straight cut across the bottom. All the basic cuts were shown for a complete haircut including trimming around the eyes, ears, feet, chin, the belly area, tail, the rear end, etc. (even a top knot was shown for a poodle). Everything is demonstrated to give any kind of dog a full haircut from front to back, top to bottom. Four breeds of dogs were used (Yorkie, Schnauzer, Cocker Spaniel, Poodle), so you learn and apply any or all of the many techniques to your own particular breed of dog, resulting in the style that you desire. I thought that I would need assistance keeping Sammy still while I cut his hair, but I didn't. (The groomer explained exactly how to calm him down before and during the entire grooming session, and it really worked.) The video also showed me how to safely trim Sammy's toenails so I don't have to pay someone to do that anymore. It even shows you how to brush your dog's teeth, proper bathing, etc. Each of the segments on the DVD were very easy to find, and rewinding and fast forwarding to review any part that you want is very easy--you only have to know how to use the proper buttons on your DVD remote--it was very simple. Out of all the many grooming videos I have purchased, this is the only one that I would recommend if you want to give your dog a safe and complete haircut. It's a terrific DVD for teaching at-home grooming.

Rating: Summary: THIS VIDEO IS TOPS IN EVERY WAY, HIGHLY RECOMMENDED Review: In the interest of providing the very best care for my dog, I have purchased the three top bestselling dog grooming videos offered in the marketplace and now I know why Doggie Cuts is #1. I bought this particular dog grooming video first because my research had found it to be a quality product, marked with excellence. I was particularly impressed that Doggie Cuts provided vital health care information for my pets (by a real veterinarian) when the other videos did not--a most beneficial bonus for my dog's continued good health. So, now I am even more puzzled why most of the other videos, that offer much less, are priced higher than this one! This video definitely pays for itself in no time! Those facts make Doggie Cuts the best value in price in addition to the following: In comparing all the dog grooming videos available, Doggie Cuts seems to be the only one that is endorsed by a highly-respected celebrity, Dick Van Patten, and the only one I read about that contributes part of it's proceeds to animal and human charities. It is obviously of much higher quality than any of the others in both production and detail of information offered and demonstrated. The cameras were always there to capture every detailed cut as the experienced groomer described them, making it very easy to follow along. The useful high-tech graphics and special effects, illustrations, special sound effects, and even cartoons thoughtfully utilized in the video also made Doggie Cuts interesting and entertaining too, as well as extremely informative and effective. (You will find none of these "extras" in any of the other videos.) And the equipment demonstrated was simple and effective and can be inexpensively purchased at any pet or retail store anywhere. Bravo for simplicity and convenience! Doggie Cuts, by far, provides the clearest and simplest approach to learning home dog grooming and haircutting. This is especially helpful and necessary for dog owners with no prior grooming experience. Nothing required or expected was left out. The very pleasant, experienced professional groomer in this video was the most friendly and relaxed, and you can easily see that he loves animals and enjoys grooming them. This made me feel very comfortable and confident, and it took all the pressure off, so learning became both interesting and fun. And, I could tell my dog was far less stressed with me doing the grooming and was actually enjoying all the extra attention! The pleasant groomer expertly repeated extensive cutting and trimming techniques several times in detail, so I quickly and easily learned how to perform all the snips needed without any guessing or confusion or wondering "what else?". When I was finished, all I could do was smile knowing I would never have to take my pets to the groomer again. No matter what breed of dog you have I would strongly suggest you choose the Doggie Cuts video to provide all of your pet grooming and health needs (including bathing, tooth brushing, and nail trimming, etc.). It demonstrated all the basic cuts necessary to groom virtually any breed of dog in any hair style that you might choose, and it provides valuable veterinary advice and health maintenance tips to really place it above all the other grooming videos. It's a blue-ribbon winner!
Rating: Summary: A little disappointed Review: Like most people who'll buy this DVD, I wanted to save some money and save my dog the stress of the groomer visit. This DVD was a great component in my learning how to groom at home. The DVD shows 4 basic doggie cuts, and they vary enough that you can apply one or a combination of techniques to your dog. There were many hints about dog bathing/health care that were very helpful. Based on talking to my dog's previous groomer and watching the very brief video that came with the clippers I bought, I had been able to groom my dog for over a year. But after watching the DVD I was able to finally give my dog an almost professional looking haircut. The DVD does have some faults. The main one is that they're all small dogs. My 50 pound terrier/cattle dog mix is not easy to pick up and turn in the position you want. I definitely needed my husband to help out during the trim. I wish Patrick Murdock would've trimmed a big dog, and maybe shown the proper techniques to using a harness. A technical drawback is that the DVD is just one track. You think they would make a separate track for each dog style but that isn't the case. This makes it extremely hard to get to a certain section for review. You just have to fast forward and hope you don't miss it. Still, it's a great DVD to own for the at-home groomer.

Rating: Summary: Where's the full-body haircut? Review: This DVD was made from an old video, so there's no menu to choose from. You have to fast-forward to what you want. The section on bathing is fine, but I expected a demonstration of how to cut the hair all over my dog, not just the face and other trim spots. Also, it showed how to give the poodle your basic froufrou show trim--shaved face and pompoms (yuck)--with no mention of an alternative, sane trim. For me, this was mostly a waste.
Rating: Summary: Simple and easy to follow Review: This is an excellent, well-presented, modern dog grooming video! Extensive clipping and trimming is demonstrated, as well as many other grooming procedures that I have seen routinely performed by "professional" groomers. This video truly instructs and teaches ALL BASIC CUTS required to cut the hair on ANY BREED of dog. It was amazing in that it taught me how to trim the hair on my shih tzu and my poodle and my daughter's yorkie and pomeranian too. I felt right at home as the experienced master dog groomer in the video calmly presented his grooming techniques, and thankfully, he repeated his cutting methods more than once, as any great teacher would. The groomer was efficient, pleasant to listen to, and he gave detailed instruction on everything he did, as the cameras caught every detail for me to see. Fortunately, the groomer did not instruct as if he were teaching a class full of experienced groomers--his friendly method was simple and informative and thoughtful to both the viewer and the animals he was grooming--perfect for any novice like me! Before I purchased this video I felt ambivalent about the extensive assortment of complicated and scary-looking clippers that I had seen the groomers use before. I knew they had to be expensive, and I was trying to save money by doing the grooming myself, so I didn't want to purchase all of that equipment. But, I was soon relieved to find out from Doggie Cuts that there are clipper sets on the market that have adjustable blades (as described and demonstrated in the video) that one can use all by themselves instead of buying those expensive clipper sets with all of their various sharp blades and attachments. Unfortunately, I have never seen another grooming video other than Doggie Cuts that demonstrates this kind of affordable, adjustable clipper. This video demonstrated everything that I could have expected and more, and it left me without any questions. It even demonstrated nail clipping, tooth brushing, dog bathing, hair drying, and alot more including helpful veterinary advice that NONE of the other videos that I have purchased in the past offered. As the video host, Dick Van Patten said, it truly is the only dog grooming video that I, or you, will ever need!

Rating: Summary: MOST EXCELLENT DOG GROOMING VIDEO Review: This superb video effectively covers everything from A to Z, and then some. I am a professional groomer, and I am extremely satisfied with the vast content of this video. It is the first and only grooming video that I have viewed that I would recommend for home grooming. All the essentials are there for a complete and good-looking haircut. The Certified Master Groomer in the video is excellent, as are his easy to follow techniques, which effectively covers every basic major breed including any mixed breed dog. His simple haircutting techniques will enable the home groomer to easily cut and groom any type of hair on virtually any dog. (I was even able to pick up a few new things that will improve my own professional haircutting technique.) The quality of the video is superior. The cuts are shown in great detail--and they are not rushed--simple and easily learned, both clipping and scissoring. As a professional groomer, I was very impressed. I was also pleased that the groomer took the necessary time to demonstrate how to keep the dogs calm and well behaved throughout the entire grooming session. This important information is helpful in calming even very aggressive dogs, which is very important for maintaining a safe grooming session. There were numerous other grooming tips throughout the entire video covering safety, preparation, hygiene (including cleaning the ears and teeth, etc.), bathing, toenail clipping, etc. If you are serious about learning home grooming, I highly recommend the Doggie Cuts video (I purchased the DVD format) to use as your guide. Take good care of your pets! :o)
