Rating: Summary: Amazingly wonderful! Review: All of the 'Signing Time' videos are absolutely great. Now, instead of watching cartoons, all three of my children only ask to watch 'Signing Time'. They're ages are 12, 5, and 2. All of them sign all the time and really enjoy the videos. (I like to watch with them too!) We use signing in public when we're separated or when the situation calls for us to be quiet. My two year old's frustration has been greatly reduced by his ability to communicate with signs. He also has a very large signing vocabulary. The little boy I babysit is three and my five year old loves to teach him signs too. Overall, I don't think any child is too young or too old to start learning signs. It's something that kids of all ages enjoy and these videos are the best I've seen!
Thank you 'Signing Time'!
Rating: Summary: Best ASL video for children and parents alike! Review: I bought this video when my daughter was 11 months old. She is now 2 and 1/2 years old. She loves watching the video and hearing the songs. The videos reinforced what I was already teaching her. After a couple of weeks of watching the videos her signing exploded! She was eager to learn new signs that it was hard keeping up with her. The videos are so well constructed that my daughter learned to recognize the words on the screen, meaning she could say the word and do the sign for it even before they did. My goal was for my daughter to be able to communicate with me before she could verbalize her wants and needs. With the help of these videos we achieved that. We couldn't wait for new videos to come out as she had mastered all the signs on the first 3 videos within the first 6 months. Now we are moving on to expanding our ASL and will buy volumes 4-6. I can't say enough great things about vol. 1-3, except for BUY THEM and see for yourself "D
Rating: Summary: Fabulous! Review: I can't get over how much my son LOVES this DVD! He is fascinated with the kids and will give this his complete attention. We bought the three DVD set and he watches them all interchangeably. This has great songs to help you and your child learn the signs. My husband never would have learned these on his own. Now my son is 13 months old and is starting to sign and trying to say the words as he signs. It is so amazing. Completely worth every penny!
Rating: Summary: Signing Time -- WONDERFUL! Review: I got Volumes 1-3 right after we had my 2 1/2 yr old tested for language delays. She barely missed the cutoff for services, but we were still concerned. She only had 30 word appoximations! Well, after watching the videos for 1 week, she had picked up 15 signs with the clear spoken word to match! by the end of 5 weeks, she could speak and sign all 100 or so signs from the set! (I also have a 4 1/2 yr old who has also improved with these videos. Plus, my 7 month old daughter is often enthralled with them. She recognizes the sign for "milk" and gets excited when we sign it!)
My husband is Deaf, so we do use sign at home, but she refused to pick up EITHER language. These videos provided a way for her to communicate! Now she is picking up the signs/words from Vol 4-6 just as quickly, and she is stringing words and signs together.
The songs are so fun! You will be singing them even if there are no kids around! I love these videos and what they have given to my daughter!! :)

Rating: Summary: I love these! Review: I may be an adult, but these DVDs couldn't make it easier for someone like me - who learns better from a video than a book - to learn sign language. And 'Signing Time!' is FANTASTIC! The children modeling the signs are adorable, and Rachel Coleman's wonderful songs at the end help incorporate all the signs learned. I can't think of a better way to learn sign language - child OR adult - than with 'Signing Time!'
Rating: Summary: GREAT Review: I not only have this video from Signing Time, but I have all 6 volumes of DVDs and 2 of the music CDs. These are wonderful for teaching young children sign language! I reccomend them for anyone wanted to learn!
Rating: Summary: Even better than the first one! Review: I purchased volumes 1-3 of the Signing Time video series a few weeks ago. While volume 1 ("My First Signs" - with 18 signs) is very good, volumes 2 ("Playtime Signs" - with 30 signs) and 3 ("Everyday Signs" - with 29 signs) are even better. The biggest improvement is that the two newer videos include many catchy, original songs to help viewers learn the signs. Another change is that signs are presented in groups (e.g., hot & cold, friend & play, etc) rather than individually. The other changes I noticed are: better filming, less repetition of each sign (this is probably how they managed to squeeze more signs into the newer videos) and the addition of a new "extra feature" called "Putting it Together". This is a segment where Rachel (co-creator of the series) gives helpful hints about using ASL (American Sign Language). I really like this segment, but it's much too short. Finally, the last change I noticed is that Rachel appears much more at ease in the new videos. The videos didn't come with a parent's guide, but I found helpful information on the signingtime.com website. The website also includes information on the benefits of teaching your child sign language and sample clips from each of the vidoes (which is what sold me on buying these). For those who aren't familiar with this series: The "Signing Time" videos are targeted to young hearing children (0-5 years), though they are a wonderfully non-threatening way for persons of any age to learn sign language. You don't need to already know ASL in order to help your child learn the signs in the videos - but you should be prepared to learn the signs so you can incorporate them into your daily routine. The videos are quite thorough - with each sign being demonstrated a couple of times by Rachel, and then several more times by a variety of children. The narration on the videos is done primarily by young children. The signs are linked well with the objects, emotions, etc., that they represent. The children in the videos are "real" - demonstrating the signs in their own imperfect ways, according to their abilities - much the same as when children learn to speak with their voices. There is cute animation and background music with sound effects that make the videos fun to watch.
Rating: Summary: AMAZING, SIMPLY AMAZING Review: I started using Signing Time videos in March, 2004, when my almost 2 year old son's speech started to regress. In September, 2004, he was diagnosed with PDD-NOS, which is on the autism spectrum. He is receiving Early Intervention services for speech delay and his therapists and I use signing with him every day. Because of these tapes, my son has found his voice - through his hands...and he now has a 75 word vocabulary...60 of which he is able to sign ALL BECAUSE OF SIGNING TIME. As a mother, I can't tell you enough how happy I am to finally be hearing "mama"....and he's teaching our 14 month old sign too! These tapes are amazing - use them and watch your children speak volumes to you!
Rating: Summary: Every child should have these videos! Review: If you are wondering about a great video for your toddler or child to watch, this is it!
Volume 2 introduces more basic signs, the theme being Playtime Signs. These are helpful for playing with other children, and teach things like FRIEND, SHARE, PLEASE, etc. and BIKE, DOLL, TRAIN.
Signing Time is a great way to introduce children to a second language, ASL. It is also the perfect way for babies to communicate before they develop speech. I can't count the times we've prevented a temper tantrum! These videos have really given my daughter confidence because she knows she can use signs to tell us what she wants, even when she does not know the word or cannot yet speak it clearly. These videos have also given us a great way to communicate with my young cousin who is disabled, and any Deaf people we may meet.
Rating: Summary: My son and I love these videos!! WONDERFUL!!! Review: My son has a birth defect that causes speech delay. He had been going to speech therapy for months in which they were trying to teach him sign so he could communicate in some way until he could speak. Months and month he didnt sign one word until we bought the signing time videos, the next day he was signing and is now up to 40 signs in 2 months and still going strong! He is so happy to be communicating and he thinks it is fun! I highly recommend these videos to EVERY parent, my husband and I love to watch them to and the music is awesome!!!!
