Summary: A thought provoking sci-fi movie
Review: This is one of my favorite movie's of all time. the story kept me very interested at all times and it a suspense to it that rearly let up. Jodie Foster is superb in the title role. Excellent F/X and music. and best of all an excellent story.

Summary: A wonderful way to view a wonderful movie!
Review: The DVD release of Contact is probably one of the best examples of why DVD, unlike laserdisc, will eventually replace VHS as the defacto format for in-home movie viewing. Not only is the quality of the image remarkable, the commentary tracks make watching the movie an even more fulfilling experience, providing insights into the story, the acting, and the magic behind the imagery that just aren't available anywhere else. And to hear the commentary given by the Jodie Foster on her own performance is an incredible treat. That alone makes this a more than worthwhile purchase!

Summary: One of the best movies I have ever seen.
Review: After being quite a bit disappointed by "Shakespeare In Love" and "The Thin Red Line" I was ready for a truly great film. A friend just purchased a new DVD player and this was his first movie. I had read the book and enjoyed it, but neither of us had seen this film.

Man, was it outstanding! We were both deeply moved. It was one of those films where you were just silent when it was over. You didn't want to speak. You just wanted to think to yourself about what you had just witnessed.

If you're looking for "Armageddon"-style, all special effects, no story line crap, then this is not for you.

However, if you are craving a real movie experience, you should see Contact!

Summary: eye opening film
Review: i think that this film is a perfect example of the biggest question of the world. is there life out there? this movie portrays a realistic example of how the world would react to the discovery of intelligent life in space. this film is perfect if you want to feel absolute awe and emotion.

Summary: A sense of Wonder and Discovery.
Review: I loved this movie. From the moment we hear the "whomp whomp" sounds until Ellie lands on the beach, the movie just fills you with a sense of wonder and discovery. I couldn't wait to find out what happens next.

Sure the part about when she meets the "alien" was kind of lame, but the rest of the movie was great.

Summary: Very Thought Provoking, and very Enjoyable
Review: Like a lot of movies, (Titanic, et. al.) I've noticed a common thread: you either love it, or hate it. And, to be sure, everyone's a critic. But Contact is definately one of my favorite movies of all time. (Alongside such Classics as the Star Wars Trilogy and E.T.) Frist, it really got me thinking about extra-terrestrial life. To this day I still wonder if we're the only ones in this vast universe of which we belong. As someone who enjoys astronomy, I can testify that after seeing this movie when it came out in 97, it was one of the few I actually remembered a lot about, something that very few have done. (The Breakfast Club being another) The reasons are this, from the outset, I could tell that Elle's father encouraged her to chase her dreams, unlike Drummond, who constantly hounded her about how she wanted to spend her life. She wanted to be the one to discover the "sign", and when she does, who comes along but the very same person who chased her from Aricebo, to the VLA, and was close to having her booted from there. When she finally does, who wants to claim the glory? Drummond. Remember all the times in the film he took charge of the whole thing after Ellie discovers the signal? (Press conference, etc) That to me subtly shows him saying "You were right, I was wrong." Next, the people at Hadden Industries were reluctant to "foot the bill", and Ellie made the point that what would have happened if the Wright Brothers hadn't had the courage to pursue their dreams of flight? Next, to me it really raised some questions about "matters of faith." The religious extremist was so dead set against the idea, and, I'm sure you know what happened. To me, that shows that despite some people's intentions, it's not all for the best. Perhaps showing a bit of intolerance for other views, and a narrowness of vision. Finally, I was struck at the very end, where they bring up the issue of 18 hours of static, not to mention the response of Joss in the the face of the committee's disbelief: I for one, believe her. That shows that when everyone else is against you, there will be that one person or group of people behind you, no matter what happens. To me, the fact that she was an athiest really didn't matter, when there was so much more overlying the whole movie. Sure, the effects at the start and near the end were good nonetheless, but they, to me, weren't the whole movie. I guess I saw so many different levels when I saw this movie the first time, and the other times afterward, and that's why I found it to be very enjoyable, and memorable.

Summary: What are you all talking about
Review: I don't know what some of you are saying, this was the best movie I have ever seen and I've seen a lot of comparable movies. Those who said it was terrible or a Crapfest are probaly hicks who can't see past guns and explosions in films, try thinking for once. I congratulate those who liked it, I'm under thirteen years of age and I did.

Summary: Perhaps the greatest
Review: I usually don't review movies, but after reading one of these earlier "critics" of Contact actually daring to call Titanic a better work, I had to put in my two cents. This movie is brilliant, well-crafted and despite its length it flows like no other film I've ever seen. Breathtaking performances, mixed with a spell-binding plot that truly pushes you to think about yourself, life, what it all stands for and boils down to. A must-see for the person tired of the standard Hollywood brain-drainers.

Summary: This has put science back in a sci-fi movie
Review: One of the best opening scenes EVER in a movie. Good story, acting and effects.

Summary: A GREAT movie!
Review: One of my all-time favorites (despite its semi-religious tone). One of the greatest movies ever made!
