Rating: Summary: It was very bad and it put me to sleep Review: This movie was poor from start to finish. I found the plot to be lacking. I would have rather watched Driving Miss Daisy. This movie caused me a great deal of mental problems.
Rating: Summary: THE BEST DVD I OWN! Review: Anyone who says the audio and video quaility are not fantastic didn't see the same movie I saw. If you have Dolby Digital (AC-3) you'll know what I mean! Buy The Right Stuff and From the Earth to the Moon along with this one and you'll have a complete video history of America's space program from inception to the last Apollo flights. This DVD is great. And many extras are included. It has two seperate commentary tracks (one by director Ron Howard and the other by Jim & Marlyn Lovell) as well as a documetary about the making of the movie. Fantastic!
Rating: Summary: great sound effects and clear dialoge Review: loved the movie, a great wide screen show, great lows and digital soun
Rating: Summary: "If they could make a washing machine that flies..." Review: Wow, what a movie! This is the first DVD I've watched that rates five stars, if not more. It easily met one of my criteria for DVD archival: It's loaded with historical significance and educational value. It's easy for kids today to take space travel for granted, and it was fun to share with my son what really happened when I was his age. Apollo 13 has everything, and Ron Howard knew how to put it all together. The script is a carefully dramatized account of the true events that made the world stand still. The authenticity and details are a joy to watch, but you really appreciate them after seeing the bonus documentary. Apollo 13 has a great cast and flawless acting. The image quality was outstanding, and the soundtrack was the first to make my house rumble -- with meaning, for once.
Rating: Summary: I thoroughly enjoyed this incredible work. Review: It was great
Rating: Summary: An important, incredible classic movie! Review: Apollo 13 is in one word: stunning. Sure, I'm a space nut, but this movie goes to show you that movies aren't just about special effects, but an actual story. It was fascinating watching the astronauts work together to solve their problems with the team at Houston down below. The middle scenes left you gasping for more. What's so special about this DVD is a special on the making of Apollo 13, and how it captures Apollo 13's wonderful theatrical splendor. Apollo 13 is one of the world's most important movies, along side with Saving Private Ryan. Don't miss this for the world!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful movie Review: I have seen the VHS version many times, and I never get sick of it. The DVD version of it makes for a completely new experience. The sound and picture quality is wonderful. The movie itself is great, and the quality is fantastic.
Rating: Summary: I was a kid again Review: Like the portrayal of Jim Lovell's son in this DVD I was a space mad kid during the real Apollo 13 mission. In the UK we took things a bit more seriously (!) and watched every mission avidly. The explosion and desperate race to bring the astronauts home is brilliantly portrayed and is exactly as I remember it at the time. The scratching together of carbon dioxide scrubbers from cannabalised parts and scrap brought me up sharp. The movie portrayal matched my childhood memory of a UK TV science program crew following the instructions being relayed up to the astronauuts and building their own scrubber live on TV. It looked awful (just like in the movie), we never believed it would work (just like in the movie) but it saved their lives. A real flavour of the times. If you want to recal the period or wonder what all the fuss was all about - this movie portrays it all. If you never saw a Saturn Vb blast off into space then this is definitive footage (even if it is all modelled to look like the footage of the time). And the radio link bleeps and jargon are wonderfully acted. A must see!
Rating: Summary: Simply outstanding! The best allround DVD yet released. Review: This film has everything. Emotion, drama, intellectualism, everything. I still cry when I watch it which has to exceed 50 times! And, the DVD is an exceptional example of what the format can do! Outstanding video quality, audio quality, and extras make this a slam-dunk must have. Don't hesitate, buy this one NOW!
Rating: Summary: Outstanding docu-drama of the US space program in its heyday Review: Ron Howard has done it again in bringing a fabulous pictoral to the big screen. Tom Hanks is superb as Jim Lovell. The environment in which the story takes place is perfect. The reality of zero-G dispenses your disbelief of this being a movie rather than documentary from 1970. One gets a sense of really being there with the guys in the Command Module. Talk about heros! A must-have for any DVD collection! END
