Summary: Funniest Veggie Tales yet- even for grown-ups!
Review: After watching "Lyle" with my 3 boys (ages 1, 3, and 6- they all love Veggie Tales) I find myself humming 2 of the tunes to myself- and I've never done that before with a children's song! We like most of the Veggie Tales, but I think this is funniest one yet. You have to hear the Viking wives singing- I highly recommend this video.

Review: Archiald Asparagus and the French Peas as hosts.... a perfect recepie for disaster and humor. Upset about the lack of culture on the show, Archie turns VT into an episode of Masterpeas Theater. *bad pun, I know...* The first feature is the first all Veggie production of Shakespear's classic "Omelete". A famine isin the land, and the citizens don't have enough to eat. Or at least not enough eggs. Prince Omlete has the last eggs in the kingdom, cooked light and fluffy. Will he learn to share his blessings, as God wants us to? Will the people of Denmark have eggs? This piece, aimed at the older 'children' viewers, paradies classic lines, King James English, and you get to find out how Elizebethian theatre is kind to VT's lack of female characters....Archie for the second time in VT histories vuts out the Silly Song bit. In it's place is "Classy Songs with Larry", the part of the show where Larrysings a classy song. The main feature is the first production of Gilbert and Sullivan's lost musical, "Lyle the Kindly Viking". Most of the vikings enjoy raiding the monastery and being 'the terrors of the sea', but the youngest member doesn't 'fit the Viking style'. Lyle is eventually found out to be giving his share of the booty back to the monks, as well as potholders. Can this bring something better than gold, money, and big-screen tv's? Will the other Vikings support him? Is Olaf finding out Lyle's biggest prolem? Now, to the DVD features. Anyone who has seen the extras and scrrens on "Countdown" and "Angry Eyebrows" would know that this is the first venture to DVD. The chapter selection has no background music. The quality of the extras are good, ut there are only 3. There's an interview of Phil and the director, widescreen version of the Classy Song, and a peek at animation develpomnet. All in all, a solid Veggie entry, though definatly not the best.

Review: Both the stories and the music in this DVD are excellent. My two year old loves watching it and I love watching him sing and dance along with it. The messages are valuable (sharing is good, etc.). However, as I think my son is too young to really understand the messages, it's the non-violent characters, great graphics, and lively songs that are what really make this a worthwhile video to own.

Summary: Moral of the Video: "Sharing gets you more friends"
Review: Claiming to be a lost musical of Gilbert and Sullivan, Lyle the Kindly Viking tells of a band of Vikings who maraud a nearby monastery. Lyle, the kindly Viking, not only doesn't steal but returns some of the stolen goods to the monks. The Viking leader wonders why in a bluesy-style song: "What's up with Lyle? I'm telling you that boy doesn't fit the Viking style..." Mean while Lyle sneaks stuff to the monks, singing: "Dear monks, dear monks, what can I say my friends have taken your things away. I've come to bring some back to you." While Lyle is returning things to the monks the Viking leader comes after him and intends to leave him stranded at sea. A sudden storm, however (reminiscent of the movie, "The Perfect Storm") washes everyone overboard. The monks save Lyle's life, and -- after some convincing from Lyle -- saves the other Vikings, too. The moral: They were saved because Lyle had made friends with them and shared. A fun, hum-able song follows -- "When we share we get our share of friends." So the Vikings change their theme, from "We're Vikings, terrors of the seas" to "We're Vikings, sharers of the sea." The video features a hilarious "Classy Songs with Larry" , a short clip that spoofs Shakespeare's Hamlet (when two characters are playing battleship, one says, "2-B?" and the other replies, "No 2-B") and outstanding music throughout. The Veggie Tales people get even more creative with time.

Summary: Lively Songs, Quality Animation With Strong Moral Message
Review: High quality animation, lively songs, fast pace, upbeat, playful. Amusing characters teach kids about sharing. Strong moral message with Christian content make it particularly useful for church programs. The children were very entertained and commented: "It was funny and cute and we loved it." "Lyle helped everyone and gave them potholders." "The songs were cool." "It made me want to share." "I liked to see the Veggies hop around." Best for ages 2 to 5.

Summary: Great show. A good buy.
Review: I bought this for my daughter for Christmas last year. She is almost 2, but she loves the Veggie Tales. As with all of the Veggie Tales shows, they teach very good lessons. This one has to be about sharing. I like how they use a theme for each of their shows they come out with. This one in particular the veggie's are all vikings whom rob the poor and Lyle the friendly viking takes his share of the gold back to whom the others robbed the gold from. Eventually the other vikings decide that what they were doing was wrong. Another great tale from Big Idea.

Summary: Lookin' better all the time
Review: I hadn't seen Veggie Tales for many years, but when I finally picked this one out, my interest was immediately sparked again. This time around, the visuals in Veggie Tales are drastically improved, and my biggest gripe of these Christian videos has been gratefully fixed: the plot doesn't move so slow anymore. In fact, Lyle the Kindly Viking moves at such a smooth rate, I had lost all track of time. This particular video focuses on the idea of sharing, and tells this through two different stories (one of which is a hilarious rendition of Hamlet). Speaking of such, this movie also reverts back to what made the first Veggie Tales show such a hit: its humor is clever and witty enough that even adults will find a few things to laugh out loud about. -- A great animated feature with lots of great songs, good humor, and flows with enough variation and pace to keep one... anyone... interested.

Summary: Terrific for the whole family!
Review: I have a 9 month old that will sit and watch this one all the way through while moving his hands and feet to the music. My husband and I are also just a intrigued by all the songs and the animation. What a wonderful show. Great for everyone. I definately recommend!
