Rating: Summary: A PERFECT MOVIE Review: This movie is incredible. Perfect in absolutely every way, with astonishing acting, a wonderful true story, and, as everyone knows, a great musical score. AWESOME!
Rating: Summary: Wonderful Sports Tale Review: Chariots of Fire is an excellent movie for the fan of a good dramatic film and an open minded sports fan. The acting is superb and the struggles of the assorted runners are intriguing. The supporting cast is excellent all around especially the hurdler from Great Britain. This movie stays true to the 1920's athletics and shows the emotions of the athletes even before the "human interest" stories became popular and dominating in Olympic coverage. A wonderful movie to watch with a great score to listen to.
Rating: Summary: One of the best movies of all time Review: Made in a era when good character and personal substance were still of importance, this movie portrays a contrast of sorts between the on and off track experiences of two runners Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahms. Both aspire to compete in the most presitigious competition of their time, but how they achieve their ends is an examination of the stength of faith, honor, and personal integrity. An exceptional movie, the ratings posted by Amazon are unfair to the credit of the movie since Amazon has lumped together reviews of the DVD version (with a disparate average rating of 2.4 because of a lack of wide-screen support) with ratings for the VHS version, which an average of 4.9 based on movie content, not format.
Rating: Summary: Uplifting Review: Being not from England I did not expect this movie to be good but it is good! All the actors are good. Also the music make you want to run in slow motion! The main song is so inspiring that I record onto my tape player! It make me want to visit England green and plesent land!
Rating: Summary: Amazing Movie! Review: I loved Chariots of Fire! It is one of those movies that warms the heart and makes you smile. Great for the holidays. Eric Liddle is such inspirational and admirable athlete-- a man who is truly after God's heart and desire. You will be rooting for him just as I was. The score and and backdrop in Scotland are both beautiful. I high recommend this movie.
Rating: Summary: I hope that someone out there hears our opinions Review: It is truly sad that WB did not deem it worthwhile to put this movie into a widescreeen DVD format. I hope that someone from that company with influence hears how displeased the fans of the movie are and does something about it.
Rating: Summary: this should have been a better DVD! Review: This movie was one of my favorite films from the eighties--a great cast, a wonderful story (especially since it was based on fact!), and exquisite care in the production values. So, how come Warner Brothers couldn't produce a better DVD of "Chariots of Fire"? I'm especially disappointed because this is the same studio which brought us the superb DVD of "L.A. Confidential" (the best movie of the nineties). This movie (as well as "Local Hero"--also a Warner Brothers product!) cries out for a widescreen presentation and instead, we get a film that could have been recorded from a premium cable channel. Still, I give it 3 stars, because it is a fine movie--maybe we'll get a re-mastered film in the next century?
Rating: Summary: SHOW ME THE WIDESCREEN VERSION Review: WHO COULD THEY CUT THIS GREAT MOVIE, PLEASE SHOW ME THE WIDESCREEN VERSION. I'm a movie collector and I've change almost all my collection from VHS to DVD; when I saw Chariots of Fire in a video store, I didn't think a second time and put it in my shopping car, but then just checking it I realized it was in FULL SCREEN?, please give a break where is the WIDESCREEN VERSION? I'm ready to pay twice the price for this movie, BUT GIVE ME A WIDESCREEN VERSION.
Rating: Summary: Great Movie --- Bad Transfer to DVD!! Review: I couldn't believe that the execs at Warner Bros. would butcher this GREAT movie by transferring it to DVD as full screen video using the "pan-and- scan" process, rather than giving us the original theatrical Widescreen version. Consequently, there are several scenes where an actor in the dialog is partially or completely missing from the scene. The audio transfer from the original to DVD is flawed---occasionally, a soft or low volume dialog between actors is drowned out by the surrounding sounds....a good example of this problem is the scene in the restaurant between Harold Abrahams (Ben Cross) and Sybil (Alice Krige), in their first on-screen conversation. This is simply a quality control problem at Warner Home Video. It would be interesting to know the identity of the "brains" behind this decision, i.e., fullscreen. I hope he/she/it has moved to TV-land where he/she/it should feel right at home! Hopefully, Warner's will come to their senses someday, and reissue this wonderful movie in DVD, GIVING US WHAT WE PAID FOR: THE ORIGINAL VERSION.
Rating: Summary: One of the greatest fims ever produced!!!!! Review: I don't think I need to say any more than that! This movie is filled with the unmistakable duty that ones principle comes before the prize. Chariots of Fire will inspirer. This is a movie for the family, it is a movie for the athlete, it is a movie for the average person, this is a movie for the ages.
