Review: I love this movie!!!!!!!! i am a highschooler and this is still one of my favorite Disney movie. maybe its becuase of the great friendships shown, or it could have something to do with the fact that cutie patootie Gabriel Damon plays the voice of Littlefoot. (if you want to see him, not just his voice, go out and rent Newsies, where he is 15 in the movie. great movie, with a cast of some pretty hot guys) anyway, land before time is a cute movie, you should buy it if you dont already have it.

Summary: This is the only Land Before Time classic
Review: This film is great. No dopey songs. The soundtrack is tastefully done. All that singing in the sequels gave me a migraine. The sequels are an insult to everyone's intelligence. Do yourself a favor don't ever rent the sequels for your kids. Especially if they're obsessed with dinosaurs! My six year old brother drove me off the deep end with Land Before Time II,III and IV! Save yourself from the nightmarish sequels. Watch the original and pretend the sequels don't exist!

Summary: Very powerful, magnificent
Review: I don't know what Don Bluth had done prior to the Land before Time. However, this film guaranteed that everyone would remember the name Bluth forever. In this film, Bluth takes a gigantic gamble, deciding to try something that up until that point, no-one has ever had the courage to approach - dealing with the death of a parent. In the way he does it, it is a painful and moving, terribly moving piece. Little foot the dinosaur even sometimes sees his dear mom in shadows, and has a hard time really believing she has gone and he is alone. He meets companions on the way, and the skill of Mr Bluths story writing - they don't get on.. immediately. They learn friendship and loyalty through hardship and danger which is quite sharp... There is a point at which you wonder if they are all going to get through at all. I don't think anyone in our house was not moved to tears at one time or another, and there's six of us. This is made harder to bear by reason of the brilliant score. I can't compare this music to anything other than Rimsky Korsikov or possibly Debussy. This combination of tragedy and beauty is very powerful and therefore I would have to say that in daring to do this, Mr Bluth is either reckless or brilliant, or both. Don Bluth has made quite a few light weight pieces after this. I'm glad - I watched Thumbelina recently, and that absolutely commanded my attention throughout - on Christmas day! I am pleased that Don wishes to draw pictures of such gardens of delight as appear in the sequels and I have not the faintest regret that these do not contain such high drama as the first - that would be inappropriate and I think Don knows enough about Heaven to wish for some depiction of it here, in which there is peace and happiness, and the hope of paradise.

Summary: Great movie - poor DVD!
Review: This is one of those films that I expected to enjoy much less than many of my family's Disney favorites. As it turned out, both my children and my wife and I like the movie immensely. The touching story of Little Foot, the last remaining member of his family of Brontosauruses (Brontosauri?), is a great adventure as well. He joins up with younger members of other dinosaur families as they all journey to the Great Valley in search of food. Along the way they encounter hunger, thirst, earthquakes, and, not least of all, the dreaded Sharptooth. The feel of the dinosaur age is well presented and the characters are cute without being saccharine (and they don't sing!). The lesson that friends can be friends even though they don't look like you or act just like you is a nice one for kids to see. The idea that working together is important for reaching a goal is also a valuable one. Having owned a VHS copy of the movie, I was anxious to see the DVD. The result on this particular version is very dissappointing. First, the version is full-screen with no wide-screen option. This seems to be a minor problem since most of the action seems to take place center screen. It would have been nice to have the option for widescreen, however. Secondly, the color and brightness varies widely from scene to scene (and, more jarringly, sometimes within a scene). The opening scene, which starts underwater, is actually darker and less sharp than on the VHS version. In several quiet, close-up scenes the picture will be perfectly exposed and then the picture will shift to a darker look and then back. Very annoying. Various nicks and scratches appear throughout the film - it appears that no effort was made to clean up the video master at all. There were also no extras on the disc at all, and at the price of this DVD, you would expect a little more than just the movie and chapter selections. Disney issued their first few DVDs with little problems like this: no widescreen option, varying degrees of video quality, etc. They however, have moved to a more consistent product over the last six months. Hopefully, movies like The Land Before Time will be given better treatment in the future. This one in particular deserves better than it got.

Review: I must confess that I have never really watched this movie. But I have two kids that love it, and watch it over and over. I have also found that it is well recieved as a gift by other chidren. I have certainly gotten my monies worth from it!

Summary: One of Don Bluth's few best movies
Review: "The Land Before Time" is another animated movie that people should see. Don Bluth has almost always picked the right unknown actors to do the voices in his movies. Here, Gabriel Damon {Littlefoot}, Candice Hutson {Cera}, and Judith Barsi {Ducky} are no exceptions. They all voiced their roles with unique talent. They gave humor, emotion, and great charm to their characters. Perhaps the greatest wonder and beauty of this movie is the music by James Horner. It is considered by many people to be one of his best scores. George Lucas and Steven Spielberg produced this movie, and they are the reasons for you to see this movie. Four powerful names in Hollywood-Lucas, Spielberg, Horner, and Bluth-and you have got a very good movie.

Summary: One of Bluth's Best
Review: If you're only familiar with the awful awful awful direct-to-video sequels, then you are unprepared for the level of story-telling prowess on display here. Before the cheesy moral fables, there was this beautiful tale about coming of age and finding your way home. The animations is artful, the backgrounds gorgeous, and Horner's score moving. This is animated filmmaking in the best Disney tradition-- in other words, it's not really a kids' movie.

Summary: If only it were Widescreen
Review: I consider "The Land Before Time" to be one of the greatest non-musical animated films of all time. I was 10 when I first saw it, and was enthralled. It has, by far, the most emotional and perfect ending of any animated film. However, I find it a travesty that it's not being released to DVD in its proper Widescreen format ("The Secret of NIMH," another great Bluth film, is also not Widescreen on its DVD.) The viewing public has been educated. They now know the value of widescreen formatting. So why release great films in their evil, full-screen versions? I do hope that Universal corrects this problem.

Summary: A beautiful classic
Review: When I first saw this movie I was a young kid. Dinosaurs are a fulcrum on wich the life of millions of children rest. A movie expressing good values, entertainment, and education based on these creatures would be fantastic, wouldn't it? This movie exists. The Land Before time is an instant classic, the best animated film I have ever seen. The story line is excellent, a rarity amongst animated films nowadays. The story is basically that a brontasaurus, named littlefoot must trek towards a "great valley" to avoid starvation. Along the way his mother is killed, and he must find his way alone. He learns courage, and he learns friendship from the duck-bill, stegasaurus, triceratops, and teradactole he meet along the way. I am 14 years old, and I found parts of this movie so emotional I still cry when I see it. This movie is a must for any child, and will be cherished by people of all ages.
