Rating: Summary: AWESOME ANIMATED MOVIE! Review: As a huge fan of American animation, I give this Disney-esque version of TOM SAWYER an "A." The backgrounds in the film are so beautiful & the characters are well drawn, too; reminded me "so" much of Disney's older films (Robin Hood, Fox & the Hound, Jungle Book, etc). The music is awesome; the songs are very well written and a pure joy to listen to! I still love cartoons & animation. And this version of TOM SAWYER is an awesome film that both children & adults can enjoy together.

Rating: Summary: Entertaining! Review: I bought this for my nephews and niece (3, 8 & 11) last Christmas. I don't care to review the animation, direction, voices or anything technical...this is just great entertainment for kids! My 3 year old nephew calls it "his movie" and we watch it 2-3 times a day. He knows the dialog, the songs and the sound effects, he LOVES IT and that is what counts!
Rating: Summary: Disappointing, not like I had heard Review: I had read a lot of good reviews about this DVD, and being a nut for Tom Sawyer/Huck Finn films, I finally decided to pick this up. I had seen it in stores before, but based on the cover I assumed it was typical straight to video non-Disney trash. Well, due to the great buyer reviews I picked it up as I said, but was disappointed to find I was correct. It wasn't as bad as the horrible Animated Adventures of Tom and Huck, but it was still pretty bad! The Animation was not bad, I admit, though I expected it a tad better, but I believe the main problem there was with character design. Still, they could have gotten around that, it was the changes in story, the horrible writing and directing that ruined this movie. There were fantasy/dreamsequences that always ruin these animated Tom Sawyer movies! These ones were really weird and confusing! And they seemed to comprise a very LARGE part of the film. That was probably the worst part, but I also have to say that too much attention was paid to the Tom and Becky Romance, and not enough attention to the whole Injun Joe issue, and the pure Tom/Huck adventure style. In addition, the country music star voice casting didn't seem quite right, and made you feel more like you were in Hazard County rather than Hannibal Missouri. The songs that got so much praise in some reviews I had read were not that great, and not necessary at all. I really don't think Tom Sawyer works as a musical frankly, and I wish that other studios would leave the animated musicals to Disney, because no one else, except maybe Dreamworks and Fox, seem to be able to pull them off. I'm afraid I can't recommend this to someone looking for good ol' Tom Sawyer style fun, or looking for something close to the book. I wish that if an animated version has to be made, it would be done by Disney, or Dreamworks, and would be something closer to Disney's live action 90's film Tom and Huck.
Rating: Summary: Tom Sawyer Review: I was told about this video and decided to check it out. I was delighted with the high quality of the animation. The story was charming and full of interesting characters. Becky and Amy are my favorites. Probably the rarest treat of all, are the great songs that filled the video. Good music has been missing from too many animated movies in the past. I enjoyed this movie so much, I have told my friends about it and even sent out extra copies, I bought, to friends all over the world. They all enjoyed the movie. Can't ask anymore from a movie to be pleasantly entertained, this one does that beautifully.
Rating: Summary: Wonderful production, fairly faithful adaptation. Review: Mark Twain's beloved novel has once again been adapted for film, with some subtle changes (Injun Joe becomes Injurin' Joe) and some not-so-subtle ones (all of the characters are animals). However, this new animated version, brought to us by MGM and the same people who made the direct-to-video films "Babes in Toyland" and "An All Dogs Christmas Carol," remains a fairly faithful adaptation. It is very, very well animated with a memorable score by Mark Watters. The voice casting, comprising of mostly country music stars with a few veterans like Betty White and Don Knotts, is right on the money. Rhett Akins as Tom Sawyer is simply wonderful. Add to this a selection of great country music songs and you've got good, clean family entertainment.
Rating: Summary: Worth a look Review: Not an animated classic but a cut above a lot of the stuff that's out there. Nice animation and at least one good song (One Dream).

Rating: Summary: An excellent animated version of an American Classic. Review: The animation itself is very well done, being on a par with1993's "Once Upon a Forest", and nicely conveys the variousmoods and emotions of the plot and characters. About the only real problem I noticed throughout was a slight continuity problem: sometimes Tom is barefoot in scenes where, a second before, he'd been wearing shoes. But this is just a minor thing. While I'm not a "Pop-Country" fan, the music in this effort is, if not show-stopping, then at least pleasant to the ear without detracting from the plot and children will probably like some of the bouncier rhythms. As a previous reviewer notes, the plot mostly follows the book with; as noted; certain concessions made to political correctness. But this does not detract from any of the characterizations or the "romance" of Tom's puppy-love-at-first-sight attraction to Becky Thatcher (and Amy Lawrence's transition from "woman-scorned" anger to resigned semi-acceptance of it is tastefully handled too) and the drama of Deputy Bean's murder by Injurin' Joe and his pursuit of Tom and Becky through Deadman's Cave. So if you're a parent looking for a Video that both you and the kids might enjoy watching on a rainy afternoon, this is one that I can definitely recommend. (And if it gets the viewer [especially kids] interested in reading Twain's American Classics "The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" and "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" too [as it did me!], then chalk that up as an added bonus!)
