Rating: Summary: A waste of money. Review: Bertram the Goose is about as annoying as it gets. Just think of half the intelligence of Big Bird or Barney, add in serious insecurity and nagging problems and some constant honking. This is not a good role model for children. I was about to go nuts when my 3 year old got bored and wanted to watch something else. The props are high school drama class quality and the actors seem to be there for a line on their resumes. The "Richard Scarry's" DVD for mother goose is better quality and wont make you leave the room to protect your sanity.
Rating: Summary: Children quality Review: Good Children classic. Follows the tradition story line with a little twist. Great Children Enterainment with the family!!!
Rating: Summary: timeless Review: I am 23 and was watching the vhs of this when it first came out in 1989. I was 8. Well my son is 3 and I am now ordering it for him. I did not even know they still had it out and was amazed to see it is now on dvd. It is a timeless classic and I can not wait for my son to watch it. sincerely Brenna
Rating: Summary: Great for the kids... Review: I gave this 4 stars because my son absolutely loves it. I am not sure what it is about this video that captures him so -- the production quality is not that great, some of the singing is pretty bad, and it can be irritating to the adults in the room. Regardless, I am giving it 4 because he is just crazy about it. If you can handle Barney and the Teletubbies, then buy this video!
Rating: Summary: Lifesaver for the kids Review: I own the Mother Goose VHS videos. My daughters both love it so much the tapes are worn out. I couldn't find replacement videos anywhere. I am SO glad I found these DVDs!!
Rating: Summary: Memories Review: I used to own this volume and part 2 as a child and watched both of them repeatedly. I would love to own them again and relive memories from the past. This is a great thing for children of today to have. Kids growing up these days probably have no idea who Mother Goose is. What a shame! And why people are reviewing this video like it's a big screen motion picture is ridiculous. This is very old and for the kids. It's Mother Goose nursery rhymes. Geesh!
Rating: Summary: Great Program - Add It To Your Library! Review: It was a rainy cold day in L.A. and I had Stevie, my 7 year old and her friend April, who is 6 over. I had too many Thanksgiving chores to play with them, so I popped in The Mother Goose Treasury, Vol. 1. To my delight, for a full hour, both kids were enraptured! On several songs; "Old King Cole", "Humpty Dumpty", "Little Miss Muffett" and "London Bridge", both kids were in fine form, just singing along with the program, having a great time. This is a quality production that aired on The Disney Channel and uses very cool-looking puppet characters in a unique way. The kids (and I) liked the characters, the costumes and the dancing, which were all first-rate. A GREAT Kids (probably 3-8 years) DVD, which allowed the kids to go back instantly to their favorite song over and over... until I stopped that! Great for your own family or as an excellent low-cost gift - - I will definitely be getting Vol. 2 soon.
Rating: Summary: The Mother Goose Video Treasury on DVD! Great! Review: Made back in 1987 as "The Mother Goose Video Treasury", this is the endearing production made. It features Cheryl Rhoalds as a young human Mother Goose and Will Ryan as the funny, but, often wisecracking Bertram. In the town of Gooseberry Glen, Mother Goose and her friendly "watch-goose" help many of the town, including the goofy Humpty Dumpty, Who falls after Mother Goose tells him to down from the wall. She comes to his aid after his "Great Fall".
Rating: Summary: Thank goodness I found them again! Review: My older two children watched these movies so much they wore the VHS tapes out. I was afraid I wouldn't be able to find them for our youngest... While Bertram the Goose can get on your nerves a little, after 500 showings, hey, what doesn't? In any case, I would rather listen to these tapes any day vs. Barney or the Teletubbies. We have many fond memories of the songs and skits, and still sing many of them today. These are a must-have for your little ones, they love the bright costumes and the music. Note: these are best viewed by 2-4 year-olds. Any older and the kids are just past it.
Rating: Summary: Good material gone bad Review: The thinking behind this DVD is good. Get a central character and a sidekick to introduce favorite nursery rhymes, so that kids can enjoy a collection of classics as a part of a larger story.
That's where the good idea ends!
The casting and acting is positively atrocious. Mother Goose is too young for the role, and the rest of characters are way too old for theirs. Multiple role playing adds to the confusion, and the cinematography is so bad, it can't be rated.
To summarise, the DVD is not a high quality production, and could have been much better, given the excellent material provided by the classic Mother Goose stories. Had the support characters been younger, and better actors, and the cinematography more inspired, this could have been a great DVD.
