Rating: Summary: "Pumpkin" is one wonderful DVD! Review: It's great to have "Great Pumpkin" out on DVD, and the transfer is just wonderful-those purples and oranges really jump out at you! I showed it to my students, and they loved it too. If you already have a VHS copy, it is really worth the DVD upgrade. In addition, some of the television showings cut part of the classic "I got a rock!" scene-it is complete here!
Rating: Summary: DON'T BLINK BECAUSE EVERY SECOND IS FANTASTIC! Review: I have grown up watching this movie every Halloween since age 5. Honestly, I've probably watched this video more than any other video I own and I love it EVERY SINGLE TIME--never a dull moment! If you love Schulz, Snoopy, the Peanuts gang and/or Halloween you simply must own this! It deserves the highest possible rating; five stars doesn't do it justice. It has perfect editing, illustrations, music, voices, script--EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS IS PERFECT! I've done over 70 reviews and I do believe this is the first time I have EVER used the word perfect in one of them!My favorite scenes are the Snoopy ones, especially the World War 1 Flying Ace (flying doghouse scene with great colors) and the piano scene at the Halloween party where Snoopy dances and marches to the happy song and then changes moods and cries to the sad song..repeating twice. I laugh out loud til I cry every single time! YA GOTTA LOVE SNOOPY! He is so intelligent but sensitive too! What a dog! My second favorite character in this video is Sally--the way she pitches a fit in the pumpkin patch and says "I was robbed!" then threatens to sue Linus--so hiliarious also! Again it makes me laugh til I cry! Lucy the bossy and sometimes downright grouchy (to put it mildly) shows a soft side the way she wakes up in the middle of the night, goes to check on Linus and finds his bed empty, then gets dressed and goes to get him freezing in the pumpkin patch and puts him to bed without a word. The ending with Charlie Brown and Linus is endearing as well. Each character is so unique and entertaining! JUST GET THIS VIDEO! TRULY A TIMELESS CLASSIC! YOU'LL LOVE IT--TRUST ME!
Rating: Summary: the most sincere pumpkin patch Review: This is such a treasure! A true family classic. Of course kids today have the benefit of a tape or DVD. Remember the old days when, if you hapened to miss the special, you were out of luck for a whole year?! Well, that also added to the precious nature of this special. Now it can be yours forever! I pull this one out every Halloween and it always makes me feel like a kid again.
Rating: Summary: Passing it on to my kids Review: I wasn't sure how my children (7, 9, 10) would respond to Peanuts seeing as how there are no Pokemon in it but I was pleasantly surprised. I didn't even have to sell this one; I just put it on and it sold itself. I plan on ordering all the Peanuts series now. Its great to see that shows I think are classics truly are!
Rating: Summary: Classic! Review: I watched the great pumpkin with my three kids last night,( 7, 5 and 3) not knowing how they would react to something that didnt contain space ships, or little yellow men ...But My three year old can't stop repeating the lines! We all watched it three times in a row! The best part was, I laughed harder and louder at the, "I got a rock" lines more last night than I did as a kid! This is a genuine classic to be enjoyed forever by everyone!... Charles Shultz was a true genius, and this has got to be one of his best works!
Rating: Summary: A great classic Review: As always, the Peanuts movies capture an innocence and gentleness oft missing in modern children's programming. Although the kids do pick on Charlie Brown, they all sincerely care about each other. The Great Charles Shultz left us this past year. Let's honor him by watching The Great Pumpkin and smiling at the antics of children.
Rating: Summary: "I got a Rock." Review: That line is repeated over and over again by Charlie Brown in this delightful holiday special with the Peanuts gang, Linus is waiting for the Great Pumbkin to rise from the Pumpkin batch and give toys to all the good boys and girls. Sounds very similar to that "Guy in the Red suit who says; HO,HO, HO." as Linus once put it. A trick or treat for the whole family.
Rating: Summary: No Rocks This Year! Great Pumpkin Comes to DVD Review: Is this the year that The Great Pumpkin finally makes an appearance? Linus is determined to wait it out in the pumpkin patch for a glimpse of The Great Pumpkin (with adoring Sally by his side). Meanwhile, the rest of the Peanuts gang get dressed for a night of successful trick-or-treating, (successful for all except for poor ol' Charlie "I got a rock" Brown. ) Some choice moments: Best throwaway moment: Pig-Pen kicking up a dust storm even when he's in costume. Best Scene-Stealer: Sally goes from blind adoration of "her sweet baboo" to sheer disbelief that she has no Halloween candy to show for her troubles. Favourate moment: watch the credits to see Linus shouting at Charlie Brown about how sitting and waiting in a pumpkin patch wasn't stupid! A timeless classic that is a poignant homage to the true spirit of Halloween and to Charles Schultz himself, who died in May 2000. The DVD even includes a bonus feature: "You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown." Still not all the extras I hope for in a DVD, but I'll take it. Thank you, Charles "Sparky" Schultz.
Rating: Summary: Your age doesn't matter...timeless! Review: I've looked at the reviews thus far and noticed that you don't have to be 8 years old to enjoy this movie. The whole Peanuts gang warms your heart no matter what your age is! I've enjoyed this movie for many years now, and was delighted when a friend bought the video for me. If you're a fan of the Peanuts gang, this movie does not disappoint: Sally with her "Sweet Baboo;" Charlie Brown with his "I got a rock;" Lucy with her constant "You blockhead!" And, of course, every time I watch I smile when Linus proclaims his pumpkin patch to be the most sincere. If you've never seen this movie before, you must buy it now! A definite must-see movie for any person.
Rating: Summary: Timeless Review: I have always loved Charles Schulz's Peanuts strips and movies. The Halloween special and the Xmas special are the two very best. I can remember waiting for both shows to come on; it's like I planned my entire evening around it. The Peanuts Gang is truly "timeless".
