Summary: The birth of all vampire hunters in movies/anime....
Review: Vampire Hunter D is a great example of how anime has influenced American Movie makers and some comic book heroes. Here we have a half vampire named D who is hired by a chick named Doris to rid herself of a Vampire Lord who wishes to marry her. I first saw this film back when I was 13 and it still is awesome to watch seven years later. If you like Blade or any vampire movie/anime then Vampire Hunter D is for you.

Summary: Unfortunately I bought instead of rented
Review: This is one of the first anime movies I ever watched and it almost turned me against the genre. Thankfully, I bought Ninja Scroll afterward and was taken back in. I did not care for the slow feeling of the movie and my mind kept wandering. The imagery is wonderful, which is why I gave it three stars. The pictures from the film are worth framing! For that reason alone I kept the movie. The animation is good. It has a dark and eerie feel that will draw you in if you care more for atmosphere than story.

Summary: Good, but not great
Review: This was a good anime...for its time. However, by today's standards, the colours seem rather bland, and the dialogue, though masterfully dubbed, us kinda crony. Nevertheless, it has its 'damn, that's cool' moments, but all in all I expected more. I know the review sounds negative, but this really is a good movie, and worthy of four stars. Watch it.

Summary: Vampire Hunter D Good animation bad Transfer.
Review: I watched the VHS version of this animation years ago and thought it was good.
Now i have it on Dvd and i have this to say " oh man what a pile of rubbish "
i can not believe the picture is so low,you can not even see the background or the animation. Most of the time i am adjusting the brightness of the TV.
Regardless of other reviewers i would like to warn you of : the picure is very low standard for a dvd.It just goes to show you that the manufacturers are out there ready to con us.

An animtion last from 35 mins upto 4 hrs and we expect it to be the best quality in sound and picture....but how wrong are we
""" what do they give us......LOW,BAD and Unwatchable Films on Dvd """

I mean we spend so much money on movies, animation etc,etc and what do we get, just low quality films and especially on Dvd.

Last word : Vampire Hunter D could have been the best but there is 2 many blured scenes in it.
B warned.

Summary: ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE
Review: This is one of the worst movies I have ever seen. The anime is very old and poor, story line is interesting, but it is done very poorly. I couldn't even finish watching this movie. I am so upset that I wasted my money on this piece of garbage. So if you are thinking of buying this film please DON'T! Please don't let my mistake be in vain. This film is CRAP!

Summary: freakout
Review: This is a great anime but I warn you, you have to see some fairly violent and wierd anime before you see this or youll hate it. The story is well thought out, the action is good, and the caracters are very beilivable, the animation is just what you would expect for the film. The movie is very intence its not one of those movies you go to sleep watching. D is very skilled and ruthless but he does have a soul and a personality. the only reson I gave it 4 stars is some things like the the person in d's hand are just too weird to get 5 stars. Still if you are tired of dumb happy Pokicrap animes this is for you.

Summary: A classic anime
Review: Right after Akira, Vampire Hunter D has to be the second best anime ever made.

I remember seeing this on the Sci-Fi channel, and couldn't wait for it to come out on DVD. And the DVD gives you great sound, clear and crisp picture and brilliant colors. Again, I am not disappointed with the reproduction in DVD.

Another excellent story, great action, and if you are looking to expand your anime collection and have no idea what is good, allow me to recommend this as a second addition to your collection. Production, animation, and story make this a classic.

I am fairly new to anime, and am finding what I like and what is trash. This one stands out as a winner. And DVD makes these sooooo much better than tapes ever will be.

Summary: Essential anime, a true classic!
Review: Vampire Hunter D is the first anime I saw that really impressed me. It completely hooked me on anime, and remains one of my absolute favorites. It's got an amazing story, a very cool main character, a great supporting cast, and cool animation. I should point out that this is quite old, and the animation is nowhere near where todays anime is. It is still ahead of it's time, and really dark and creepy. This is what every anime fan should start with. The DVD has some cool extras as well, including a preview of the new movie Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, which has the most breathtaking animation and character designs I've seen in a long time.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Definately a classic, but not much of a keeper.
Review: When I first saw "Vampire Hunter D", I thought it was a pretty good movie. But afterwards, I reflected upon it and realized that although it's definately a classic, it isn't much of a keeper.

To judge the quality of the animation of "Vampire Hunter D" to the newer movie, "Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust", would be unfair. It's like comparing "Macross Plus" to "Robotech". "Vampire Hunter D" accomplishes what it needs to despite it rough textures and sometimes choppy animation. Some of the scenes were a little odd in how they were executed, and sometimes movements felt static and stiff. Still, the film's blandness seems to add to the gothic feel of the movie, and it's difficult to imagine D looking any other way (until you've seen "Bloodlust", that is).

There is some nudity in the film, and although it does feel a little out of place and gratuitous, it doesn't take attention away from the actual story. The violence found in the film does feel a little stiff because of the colors and textures, but it's still gut-wrenching enough to label "Vampire Hunter D" as a mature film.

There are a few things that hinder this film from being an absolute must-have. The plot, while inventive, falls in several areas thanks to a few minute plot holes. Characterization is good, but hindered from some average English voice acting. And the supposed love story between D and the girl he's trying to save is...unbelievable, at best.

Despite this, however, any anime fan has to see "Vampire Hunter D" at least once. Most likely, only die-hard fans would want to keep this movie close to their hearts while casual anime fans will only marvel at it once before looking for something else.
