Rating: Summary: One of the greats Review: I have seen so munch Japanese anime, but this is one of the best, next to Miyazaki's work, there are little mistakes that can be over looked like when they cross the 180 line but other then that it's great. The animation is smooth running with no cycles. There are many people badmouthing this because there is no japanese language in the DVD, but what those people don't know is that it was releast in Japan in the English language. If you study the Japanese commercials everyone is speaking english and there are japanese subtitle. So all and all this movie is great with a great story line, I mean you compare the old Vampire Hunter D with this one and the old one is trash.
Rating: Summary: An Artistic punch to the face. Review: Every aspect of this movie bleeds excellence. WELL almsot all aspects. As far as action, art, animation, character design, and voice acting go, Bloodlust is perfection. The story however is a litle light on explanations in some parts, meaning that sumtimes you kinda have to assume you know whats going on. But this only happens wit hsmall things in the story, nothing major is really left to interpretation. Now on to why you should run out and steal or otherwise buy this film immediately.First off the characters are amazing. THe art designs for each character is truly spot on, they all look awesome rippling with muscle and toting huge ...weapons. Second the Action. There are so many cool fight scenes in this movie i drool just thinking about them. Sword fights, gun fights, Huge razor wings, werewolfs, melting dood's, dood's on unicycles. HELL, BUY THIS FILM FOR GROVE ALONE. Suffice it to say he is the spirit of one of the Vampire Hunters, but he is so righteous...Third. THe story, altho the core story is pretty simplistic all the little side things that happen and the way everything unfolds are remeniscent of an old western movie. Very awesome. Fourth. THe animation in this film is absolutely stunning. Very smooth and clean, no weird anime stuff(ie huge tear drops, or floating bodies with gaping mouths etc.)It's unlike anything i've ever seen. WEll, i guess it kinda reminds me of that old AEON FLUX show on mtv, only much smoother. FIFth. the music is heavy mean sounding classical, it fits the movie perfectly. If you arent convinced to at least rent this film by now please pick up your tv and hurl it out some nearby window, for you are unworhty to ever watcha anythign again if this movie doesn't get you hyped. ON to the disc. Picture quality, very clear, very clean, Anamorphic so you know it rockz. SOUND. The sound effects sometimes are louder than the dialogue and if you have the movie turned up loud it gets ear bursting when groups of bats fly by or swords clash. Nothing too bad, it'll just take a few minutes to get the sound set to the right level for both. EXTRAS A making of featurette that is mildly interesting, nothing really great. Mostly about the American voice acting. Trailers and tv spots, if you've seen the movie this is jsut a slight amusement. Pretty standard fare there. A selection of the 10 best scenes as voted for by fans. Kinda interesting. Thier 10 was my #1 favorite. Storyboard to film comparison. If you like seeing the animation process this ones for you guyz. And thats about it. An all around amazing movie, very stylish, action packed and amazingly fun to watch. Belongs right up there with Akira, and princess Mononoke. A true work of art.
Rating: Summary: where is the japanese w/ subtitles version?!?!?! Review: Ok, I saw this movie when it was out in theatres and it was amazing! Unfortunately for me, it was english dubbed (which I hate) so when the dvd finally was released I bought it, especially for the fact that I would be able to watch it in its original japanese language format! However, to my disappointment, IT HAS NONE ON THE DVD! They acctually released the dvd, with only the dubbed version in it!! The special features also are terrible...this "fan's favorite scenes" feature is completely useless and even dumb. Therefore, for the anime itself, I would give it 5 stars, its a great movie, but if you're like me and hate english dubbed versions and expect more from your dvds, I give this dvd a mere 2 stars and suggest that you rent it or borrow it from someone else (or if you can, find a japanese dvd with subtitles with your region encoding).
Rating: Summary: From an experienced anime fan. Review: I've been watching anime for years. Mostly movies, and not so much the TV shows. I have to tell you, I haven't seen anime like this since Ninja Scroll. I rate much of my anime into catagories, and as far as action AND writing, this movie ranks up there (if it's not the BEST I've seen). I'll have to watch it a few more times before I make my final decision. A buddy of mine (who is also a big anime watcher) held off on his smoke break till the movie was over. I really do feel that you may like this movie even better then Ninja Scroll, unless you liked Ninja Scroll just because it involved samurai (spelling?). BELIEVE me, not knocking Ninja Scroll, but it's nice to watch something come close to one of my favorite animes of all time. Honestly, there was only one line in this movie that I didn't like, and it was near the end... and it also appears in the "Top 10 Scenes" list (only god knows why). The dubbing is awesome, although I'll have to give the subtitles a try (it DOES have subtitles... I think). Just do yourself a favor and see it. I really didn't think they make quality anime anymore.
Rating: Summary: VHD Bloodlust Review: This movie makes major strides in soundtrack quality and sheer visual appeal over the first Vampire Hunter D movie. The characters are engaging and you find yourself "switching" sides as the plot unfolds. The symbiot is terrific, continuing his love-hate relationship with D. However, I found the Vampire Hunter D of "Bloodlust" to be colder and terser than the Vampire Hunter of the original movie. That was my only disappointment. However others may find this new interpretation of D acceptable. Any fan of beautiful anime will want to get this movie for their collection. A pleasure to watch.
Rating: Summary: there is no better Review: this is one of the best anime movies that i have seen to date the story is rich and keeps you glued to it every seen is pure art in every detail you can tell when you whatch this that there was alot of time and hard work involved in this masterpiece i love it and i hope you do as well
Rating: Summary: better than the original Review: i found the movie very entertaining, and it beats the original in every aspect. i first saw this movie a couple months back, and i had to have it and bought it toady. great characters and animation, and a good plot. the climaz was executed very well indeed, but not as good as the original climax, when D was revealed to be the descendent of Dracula(big shock). its unique in the sense that there arent any clear heroes, they are all pretty much villians in that aspect. the movie is sorta similiar to ninja scrolls, because of all the wierd enemies with special abilities, but beyond that, completely different. if you liked the original, i highly suggest this sequel. the only reason i didnt give it 5 stars is because 2 reasons. almost everything on amazon is 5 stars, and 2, akira is still my fav anime, so it was obvious i compared the two. but dont get me wrong, you wont be dissapointed at the least. shot out to neo-anime w00t!!!
Rating: Summary: Great Anime Review: I thought this was a kick-butt anime. I saw the first one about 4 years ago, and I didn't have a clue that they would make a second. The story line is great and the fighting sceens are excellent, the only downfall is the slightly confusing ending. If your not a big time anime buff, it might leave you feeling like "What the heck?!?" If you are a regular anime fan, it won't be too bad. I am not a fan of "futuristic" anime, I prefer the 17th century samauri-ninja movies (i.e. Ninja Scroll, Wrath of the Ninja). This story line is set in the very distant future where life is more middle-ages but with a few futuristic technologies (kind of like Fist of the North Star). If you enjoy watching anime full of action and adventure, I would definatly recommend Vampire Hunter D and Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust.
Rating: Summary: Awe with Joyness of Dark Review: I bought this DVD without any prior knowlege of Vampire Hunter D. I never even saw the original Vampire Hunter D, but this movie is spectacular. The visual is just stunning. The movie would looked so much better if you could of watched it on the big screen. This movie contain nice action scenes, beautifully fluid animation, and a great story. Watching this movie, it seemed more like an American animation rather than Anime. It wasn't violent like Ninja Scroll, but it was just as good. Although this movie was drawned by a Japanese guy, the movie is an American production. So this movie contain no Japanese dialogue or English subtitle. It just in plain English dialogue, but the voice acting was well done. The Extras contain the usual things in most DVD, but more of it. I just wish it had some Japanese music. The music from the Japanese version trailer sounds great. Overall, VHD is a very entertaining movie. The end made me wanting more. I wish there was more information about D's background.
Rating: Summary: I like things that don't suck Review: At a retailer about a year ago a salesman convinced to buy the original Vampire Hunter D because of the inclusion of the preview for the followup. The commercial was so amazing, so intense, that it was no wonder Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust was probably the most anticipated import anime ever. It did not disappoint in the slightest. An invincible hero, anachronistic laser guns, ubiquitous crosses, and endowed heroines make this feel like the end all and be all of horrer animes. The animation is so beautiful it made me long for the preCGI days. There is no letdown at any point in this movie; if you're thinking "that guy is about to do something awesome," that guy will do something awesome. The picture quality of DVD is mediocre and the featurette is awful, but it's still a nice package. The soundtrack is fantastic and 5.1 is as good at gets for mangas. It's a little hard to hear the dialogue at times, but adjustments can fix that. There is a top ten scene countdown; I watched it after seeing the movie for the first time and found it to be a fun feature. If you like japanese animation at all, or are tired of all the CGI and want to see what great handdrawn animation looks like, buy it! If you liked Ninja Scroll at all, buy it! If you are still reading this, buy it!
