Summary: The sequel is better than first
Review: Similar storyline as original but with twists of new characters. The detail of the animation and the creativity put into this was worth the wait. Battle scenes were not quite as graphic and lengthy as in Ninja Scroll but loses on no other points, especially the dialogue (awful in Scroll). The artistry of the scenes were amazing: i.e., Arrows raining down from sky then their intended targets; scan of garden & lake w/ water reflection. No nudity/sex. Even my "non-Anime-fan" friends liked this one.

Summary: Which D is better?
Review: I just watched this DVD this weekend, and let me tell you that I was blown away. I have the first D movie, and I can't decide which is better.

I got to say the animation quality on this movie was amazing. A giant leap from the first. The story is great. Sound is much improved over the first. The voice dubbing is good. D's voice fits him nicely. It was less gory than the first movie which is good in my book.

D makes a great dark, silent hero. You should see the scene where he catches a flying quarrel. Sort of Batman with a sword (and I mean the dark knight Batman, not the 60's Batman in thights, the horror).

If you like action anime with dark atmosphere, this is a must have.

Summary: Possibly the Best Anime I've ever seen
Review: Although this movie stray's a bit from it's predecessor "Vampire Hunter D," it is quite possibly the best Anime I've ever seen. If your tired of seeing meaningless nudity and unthinkable amounts of blood (Ninja Scroll) this movie is perfect for you. Most anime movies rely on the shock factor rather than a well thought out story with amazing animation, but not Bloodlust. The depth of the characters in this movie went far and beyond my expectations, the sound was about as perfect as it can be, the story was intriguing and captivating, and I especially liked how no CGI was used, everything is hand drawn.

In my opinion this movie is superior to some of the "anime classics" like Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll, etc. It's not overly bloody, it doesnt have senseless nudity, and it isnt trying too hard to be intellectual. It is the perfect blend.

Summary: THE BEST ANIME OF THE YEAR
Review: THIS THE BEST OF THE BEST IN ANIME

Summary: Just when i thought i'd seen everything....
Review: I just finished watching VHD:Bloodlust and well what can i say...this is truly an unforgettable piece of anime brilliance, pumped out by the same guy that brought us Ninja Scroll (One of my favourites of all time). His influences are obvious in the character design and exceptional story-telling, though probably even more so through the stunning, no-holds-barred action sequences which display some of the best animation i have ever seen. In other words Ninja Scroll fans will feel right at home though this is DEFINATELY NOT one for the squeamish.

While i'm not going to waste time with a synopsis of the story (Charles Solomon did a great job in his description above)what i am going to say is that there's plenty to go around. And whilst it isn't necessary to have seen the original it does help to understand some minor plot developments a little further. The bottom line here is intriguing characters in a surreal world so deep with atmosphere you'll be envisioning every detailed environment long after the credits have rolled. Did i mention the animation rocks...

In regards to the dvd as a package, this is undoubtably one of the more comprehensive titles on the market. While the main highlight in terms of special features is definately the making of featurette (Which is more interesting then you think), the video transfer is bordering on excellent and the 5.1 digital audio track compliments the moody orchestrated music with breath-taking results. By far the best i've heard for any anime. Also worth noting are the voice overs which i found to be character appropriate and well executed for an english dub. Although "lefthand" does steal the show ;)

Anyway wrapping things up, i would highly recommend VHD: Bloodlust to any fan of good action/adventure/horror movies - not just anime - and to anyone who enjoyed the likes of Ninja Scroll. For you people i say don't think...run as fast as can to the store and allow yourself to be seduced by the gothic masterpiece that is Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust...

Summary: Amazing, Stupendous, Outstanding...and its good too!
Review: First off: anyone who saw this and gave it less than a 4 star rating is either crazy, blind or both.
This is a truly GREAT Anime film, the production values are simply Marvelous. I knew something was up when I could'nt find a copy of this movie at any nearby DVD outlet, it was SOLD OUT everywhere. Then I got a hold of a copy through Amazon and watched it...WOW!! The sound quality is great and the animation IS as good as the animation in Ninja Scroll, thank goodness. The plot is great and the action scenes are incredible.

Don't believe me? Buy it and see for yourself. You won't be sorry.

Summary: Absolutely Fabulous!
Review: In one word amazin.g The Cell count on this aniem was so high, the budget so large.. you cant help but oogle evry scene at the impecable detail they added into everey single frame! without a doubt one of the best anime ever.

One note tho. NOTE FOR KIDS/CHILDREN UNDER 16!!! Many bloody scenes, adult scenes (no nudity), and lots of death... but then again.. if you have scene the first D move you will understand.

Summary: Anime starved fans with overblown reviews once again...
Review: I've lived, breathe, and eat anime ever since I was little.. all the way back to "atom boy". art alone does not make a great anime - story, music, and characters are what makes anime truly great. Vampire Hunter D - Bloodlust is a recreated "Ninja Scroll" and "Wicked City." Ninja Scroll happen to be one of my all time fav anime.. but do we need another Ninja Scroll with different setting?? Obviously this Anime was created by the same creator but could they at least come up with something fresh? something different? I give two thumbs up on Art, music, etc.. but after watching 30 minutes of this film, you'll know right away how this story would develope and end. (TADA~ no elements of surprise) Don't get me wrong, I kinda enjoyed watching this film.. but (other than the originality issue) It also kills the fun when the main character is WAY too strong with very little competition.

If your a fan of re-created Ninja Scroll/Wicked City type of anime, this is for you.. but if you seeking something different, something fresh, look else.

Summary: An absolute masterpiece!
Review: Bloodlust has become an instant classic within a few short weeks of it's introduction to US markets. The animation is by far the best I've seen to date. Fans of the original movie will be thrilled and those new to the character will enjoy a great movie.
