Summary: Rent before you buy this version of Army of Darkness
Review: Please rent this DVD to decide whether you really want to buy it or not. The extras (commentary, deleted scenes) are wonderful, but it's pretty obvious that some of the scenes in this version of the movie (the "director's cut," for what it's worth) were taken from rough footage. The quality of the video gets so low that it looks like a VCD. I was slightly shocked that a new, shiny, special version of Army of Darkness would have problems like this, but I guess that's why they call it a Director's Cut. I'm going to keep it, but only for the commentary and extras. I'll have to buy the plain-jane version if I want to watch the movie.

Summary: Unbelievable
Review: I never saw any of the evil dead movies until I saw this in the theatre. This movie shows our hero taking a continuous beating from zombies, haunted books, and anyone else he comes in contact with for that matter. Bruce Campbells tough-guy demeanor will keep you rolling in your seat while you wonder what tragedy will befall him next. One of my all-time favorite movies. A horror cult classic.

Summary: Army of Bruce Campbell fanatics
Review: This is probably among the most underrated movies ever. It's so great yet so unpopular...too funny for the public, no doubt!I'm an extremely large Bruce Campbell fan, so to watch a movie with absolutely NO scenes without him in it is a treat (seriously, there are literally NO scenes without him. He plays Bad Ash too, so the Bad Ash scenes are with him). The plot picks up from the end of Evil Dead 2, but it's very self contained. To this day I haven't seen the first two in the series, but it still stands alone as a great movie. This movie is completely wacky and comedic and does to horror films what "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" does to medieval/fantasy films! Plus it's not too scary, so most kids can see it. I suggest you to see this movie, if you haven't. It definately is very weird and you may or may not enjoy it as I have, but give it a chance! And in the meantime..... Hail to the king, baby!

Summary: A fun adventure film!
Review: Although in order to really know what is going on here, it helps to see the previous film in the Evil Dead Trilogy, this one is able to stand alone as a horror/adventure film. Ash, this time, is back in the 14th century and must get back to the present. Don't ask me why, really. I guess he must really just like being a clerk at S-Mart. Once again, we see the fighter of demons, Ash, do what he does best. But, now, unfortunately, the average man, Ashley, has developed an attitude. Although there are people wiser than he, he won't listen to them. Thus, he can't seem to get the phrase "Klaatu barrata niktu" right, and winds up being the cause of a great deal of trouble(understatement). The images of the Army of Darkness are great and brought back to my mind the old movie Jason and the Argonauts. This skeleton army does produce a really creepy image. Once the army is defeated, Ash(ley) once again fails to do what he is told, and totally ruins his trip home. But what did we expect? The movie is left pretty much open-ended in case there were to be a sequel, which so far the people involved with the film say there will not. So, for now, the Trilogy stands as it is. This is not a scary movie, but it is a neat little adventure film. And that is really all that it needs to be.

Summary: A Classic Horror-Comedy
Review: I have seen Army of Darkness over 20 times and still think it is a great movie. My friends and I used to watch this movie all the time. It's a horror movie but it's loaded with comedy. The only thing that bothers me about it is that the windmill scene does not make sense to me. (I'm sure it is explained in the Director's Cut, which I have never seen). This is one of my favorite movies of all time and I can watch it over and over.

Summary: A must for all Army Of Darkness fans but newcomers beware.
Review: This is a must for all you Army of Darkness fans that weren't able to buy the double DVD collectors edition. The Director's Cut contains over ten minutes of deleted scenes as well as an alternative ending. These deleted clips add depth to the film and explain more than the theatrical version. However, most of the clips tend to be lengthy and unnecessary. After watching the director's cut I now see spots in the theatrical version that weren't explained entirely. The windmill scene is the best example. With the Director's Cut we can now understand why Ash's face is all of a sudden covered with soot, and why he runs into the mirror, an event most don't question that is poorly explained in the theatrical version. There is a lot going on in the Director's Cut that was deleted, upon request by the production company, to shorten the film. Just watch and you'll know what I mean. The biggest discretion I have against this version of Army Of Darkness is the ending. It has absolutely no resolve. The theatrical version shows Ash back in S-Mart battling the evils of the Necronomicon due to his failure once again to repeat the words "Klatu-Verata-Nicto". This rounds off the film and on top is one of the most humorous scenes. The Director's Cut ending also shows Ash's failure to follow directions, but this time his miscounting the drops of a potion is what changes his trip back to present time. Some of you die hard Army Of Darkness fans will enjoy this ending, but newcomers I urge to buy the theatrical version. Over all the film is enjoyable and educational. However, the ideas to cut down the film's length and to change the ending were good requests. A lot of the deleted clips are unnecessary and only add length. This is why the theatrical version is a better film, but to you fanatics out there who want too see every second of deleted material the Director's Cut is a must.

Review: Army Of Darkness,great film,I thought of it more of a war movie,not much like the first two movies. This movie had a few cheesy stupid parts but overall i loved it.If you like horror/war/action i recomend this movie the whole evil dead series is great

Review: This movie is great. It is a funny action packed horror movie. To some people it might be funny, to other people it might be scary. You follow Ash as he goes back in time and is mistaken as "the chosen one from the heavens." Ash is really stubborn and stupid, which makes him funny. The funniest part of the movie is when he gets into a fight with his evil twin. If you liked this movie check out Evil Dead II, Evil Dead I isnt very good, but Evil Dead II is.

Summary: Army of Darkness: Director's Cut
Review: Army of Darkness is the third and final chapter in the classic trilogy that begun in 1982 with the memorable shocker The Evil Dead. Sam Raimi(director) and Bruce Campbell(lead actor) went forward to create a hoorror-comedy sequel a few years later, after the original's commercial success despite its extremely low budget. The trilogy ended(?) with AOD which turned out to be a straight action movie that retained the humor but was almost clean of the horror and gore elements of the previous two. While the latter has been a let down for the series' many followers, the fact is that it's a very entertaining film, mostly due to Campbell's cracking performance and Raimi's superb direction. The story begins where the previous one ended, with Ash (Campbell) being trapped in the middle Ages and having to find the Book of the Dead in order to return to the present. In the meantime, he accidentally unleashes the army of the dead which he has to fight with the odds against him. Featuring some quite distinctive action pieces, unforgettable one-liners and the exhilarating Ram-o-cam shots, Army of darkness is a really cool film that you won't regret watching. This DVD version is the director's cut which adds 15 min. to the theatrical cut. Also don't forget to check out the commentary track with Raimi and Campbell and an interesting look behind the scenes.
