THIS IS 19 MINUTES SHORTER THAN THE HONG KONG RELEASE. IF YOU WANT TO SEE THE ACTUAL MOVIE, AND NOT SOME NIMROD'S BUTCHERED INTERPRETATION OF IT, GET THE IMPORT DISC.

Summary: Warning- Twins are addictive
Review: Charlen Choi and Gillian Chung(aka. TWINS) are two of China's biggest pop idols. Don't let that discourage you,though, this movie is very well done. Performances are done well by all(maybe not perfect acting- but not horrible). The action is also done well- good fight scenes-not great cg. Jackie Chan scenes are, pretty much, filler- although they do add some comedy. Overall- I enjoyed the film. And if you're into cute Chinese pop duos- you will too. Remember- TWINS are addictive-beware.

Review: Charlene Choi and Gillian Chun are "The Twins". They are hugely popular singing stars and actresses in Hong Kong. Director Dante Lam does a Buffy the Vampire Slayer "homage" by setting "The Twins" against gyonshi - the fabled Chinese hopping vampires - and surrounds them with some of the Hong Kong's best actors, including Anthon Wong (Hard Boiled), Ekin Cheng (Storm Riders), Jackie Chan, and Karen Mok (Shaolin Soccer).

Summary: Chinese vamp attack
Review: Charlene Choi and Gillian Chung- two of Chinas biggest pop stars(aka TWINS) must stop the "Duke" from openening "Day for Night"(vampire bible) which will give him control of the human world. Don't let the fact that these are two pop stars trying to fight vampires repel you. The film is actually pretty good- believe it or not. They have actually been in quite a few films and do pretty well. Along with Jackie Chan(small cameo scenes- not too much fighting), Ed(ison) Chen(my arch nemesis), Ekin Cheng(who is in numerous other TWINS movies), and Anthony Wong. How can you go wrong. Watch for the fight between TWINS(choreographed by Donnie Yen)- its pretty impressive-even though they have no martial arts training. It is essentially a teen film but it has good action and TWINS so its a must. P.S- watch out- TWINS are addictive. Seriously.

Review: Everyone who has reviewed this movie before me must be on crack or something. This movie blows. The vampires have fangs that go down to their chin and the one main guy is bitten by his girlfriend and hes a vampire and shes not. Shes lik "Ohh, i dont belive you a vampire even if I never see you during the day, you always drink red stuff and you have fans extending to your chin". Jackie Chan's cameo is stupid. They fight vampires and he shoves antidepressents down there throats and beats on the side of an ambulance to make them dance. On top of that he exclaims "Vampires are always in a bad mood, antidepressents should cheer them up" This movie sucks. Never buy it EVER!

Summary: Great vampire movie, but very little Jackie Chan.
Review: First of all it should be made clear to Jackie Chan fans this is not a film in which Jackie plays a central role. In fact, he has about two senes, and that's it. I guess they weren't able to get him as one of the main stars but were only able to have him on screen for a few minutes. That didn't stop them from putting his face on the cover, thus duping people into thinking he has alot to do here. The fact that this is marketed as a Jackie Chan movie when in fact he has scant running time is what makes me knock this review down a star. That having been said, once you can get over that one disapointment, this is a really great action/vampire movie. The senes Jackie is in are quite funny. (When we first meet him, it's his wedding, and the bride has gotten drunk.) The plot is about veteran vampire hunter Reeve and his latest female partner Gypsy who take on The Duke and his army of the undead. The Duke has killed off four vampire princes and is after the fifth. If he can get the hearts of all four princes, he'll be able to obtain absolute power, which includes being able to walk around in the daylight. The fifth prince, Kazaf, meanwhile, is tempted to switch to the side of good when he meets and falls in love with Reeve's sister Helen. Loads of action, great preformances all around (in terms of both acting and fight sequences), great special effects, (especially for a non-American film)cute actresses and some nice comedic touches make this one a film not to be missed.

Summary: Fun, funny and full of fangs!
Review: First off, ignore the review below by "uhhhhhhh" dated May 15, 2004, not because he (she) didn't like the film, but because it ruins a very enjoyable scene. Second, note that IMDb viewers are split down the middle on this one; you're either going to love it or hate it. "Vampire Effect," in spite of the generic title, is one of the most creative films I've seen in a long time. What's more, the special effects, with the exception of one scene, blew me away; I simply have never seen effects that look this good in a Cantonese film. One scene has a character spinning around so fast, a vortex of dust is created. Thousands of particles are flying around, yet we can still see the person inside. This simply wouldn't have been possible in Hong Kong Cinema a few years ago. I'm sure you're familiar with the plot, so I'll skip that and tell you this: Don't expect this to be "Underworld," and don't expect it to be creepy or angsty; it's not. It *is*, however, a very funny film, with some terrific, creative action sequences. Gillian Chung is so cute, you want to squeeze her cheeks and give her an ice cream cone; when she gets tough in the finale, you just can't help grinning from ear to ear. I rented it; now I'm buying it. I would recommend that you do a search for the orignal version (called "The Twins Effect"), as this version has been cut by 19 minutes. The original version is available on a region-free DVD with excellent English subtitles.
I give "Vampire Effect" 4.5 stars.

Summary: Interesting to say the least...
Review: I caught this movie on TV the other night and must say it was fun fun fun. I came on here just to buy it right away. Jackie Chan doesn't play a large role but the minor one he does is cute. There are some traditional Jackie moves, some very well done special effects, and a new little twist to the vampire mythology all wrapped up into one. It is cheesy in some parts but great fun the whole way.

Summary: Pleasently Surprised
Review: I happen to stumble upon this movie on Cable one evening. I wasn't expecting too much more from it than a campy kung foo movie. I have to admit that I was plesently surprised. Being a huge Buffy the Vampire Slayer fan, this movie was a welcomed discovery. I had never heard of the pop group "The Twins" but you can tell that they have great chemistry together as this movie was very entertaining. It was funny, and slick and full of action. The story line really held my attention and the special effects were no less than excellent. After watching the movie I knew I had to have it for my DVD collection. Jackie Chan made a fun cameo that was right out of his own movies. You can tell he just has alot of fun with what he does. I highly recommend the Vampire Effect if your looking for a fun and exciting movie.

Summary: Creative and fun but false advertising
Review: I must say I enjoyed this movie a lot. The concept in pretty cool and the effects and fights are well done. I dont think Jackie Chan should be on the cover though. He has such a minor role it's not really fair to the leads. Dont get me wrong, he was good, but he just isn't the star. Some people might be sucked into getting the movie under false pretenses. They should still get it, but not for Chan. Charlene Choi & Gillian Chungon kick some serious butt. It's also a bit of a sweat hearted movie and not just mindless vamp-hacking for 2 hours. It's not the best movie I've ever seen but it's a heck of a lot of fun.
