Rating: Summary: More than Mummies Review: This movie proved to be much more than mere entertainment. It also includes a feature called, "Egyptology 101". This gives background information on ancient Egypt - the history, lifestyles, and even mummy-making details.Although movies tend to bend truths and take liberties in regard to actual facts, this movie was surprisingly accurate. The ancient egyptian diagogue spoken was even accurate, having been researched by a scholar, and provided the first spoken version of it in modern times. The educational value of the additional material was wonderful. Even my teenager took the time to comb through items such as Egyptology 101. Bravo!
Rating: Summary: Loved it, Had a blast watching it! Review: I thoroughly enjoyed the movie, but the main reason I saw it 15 times at the theater was Oded Fehr. I think this movie will be remembered mainly as his break out role(Ardeth Bay). He was a delight to watch over and over again. The rest of the cast was wonderful as well and made for a very fun, light hearted 2 hours. The Fx were well done and Stephen Sommers did a fine job balancing humor and horror....please grace us with a sequel(and be sure Oded's in it!)
Rating: Summary: You could do worse Review: This film's main problem is that it tries to be a comedy and a horror film at the same time and ends up failing at both. At times, it was just a little too much like "Abbot and Costello Meet the Mummy". The film also suffers from the same problem that plagued "Godzilla" - spectacular special effects which try to make up for a weak script. I will allow that the situation here isn't as bad as in "Godzilla" - that would be almost impossible. Did I mention that there were a few too many cliches for my taste? However, the action scenes actually hold up pretty well. The special effects, as stated before, are pretty impressive. A good villain always helps, too. In short, I can think of worse ways to spend my time.
Rating: Summary: Finally! A horror film that delivers! Review: This movie is a top! After seeing it in May of 1999, I was truly happy with my decision to spend my money and time on it. Full of breathtaking effects, hilarious levity and terrific performances, this movie is a must-see for anyone who is a fan of Brendan Fraser or anyone who likes movies that don't totally scare. This movie, along with Jan de Bont's The Haunting, doesn't scare people out of their wits and isn't full of blood and guts like Scream or I Know What You Did Last Summer. The DVD release is a winner, but not by all costs. It would be appreciated if it had a Dolby Surround 2.0 soundtrack, but the special features deliver. In the mood for a scare, without the bodily fluids? Try this one out.
Rating: Summary: sheesy? Review: I'd just like to ask Will from Denver what the hell sheesey effects are. He says people who give "The Mummy" five stars don't see many movies. From the look of his review, he doesn't read many books. He says if you can think, then he would not recommend this movie. It's kind of funny that he says that if you give this film five stars, then you can't think, but this jerk can't even spell!
Rating: Summary: Best Movie of 1999! Review: The Mummy has it all. Action, adventure, lavish scenes, great acting, dialog that makes sense and isn't lame, believeable characters and a great story line! (Did I miss anything?) Yet another classic wonderfully modernized! I loved EVERYTHING about this movie! The effects were amazing and they even paid attention in Egyptology 101! Five Stars for The Mummy.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: I thought this movie had it all, action, adventure, horror, humor, and romance! The special effects were excellent as well. Move over Arnold, Bruce and Sylvester! Brendan Fraser is the next big screen action hero!
Rating: Summary: you 4 and 5 star must not see many movies Review: this was an extremely bad movie, just awful. no character development, no plot, just sheesy effects. if you can think then i do not recommend this movie.
Rating: Summary: A hybrid that didn't quite work. Review: There were some scary and funny scenes in this film, but not enough of either. A very light entertainment. I did get annoyed at Brendan Fraser's performance, probably because I had just watched "Gods And Monsters" a couple of days earlier. He had to act in that one. That wasn't a requirement for this movie.
Rating: Summary: A one "watch it one time" movie but still really great Review: This movie is an instant classic. It's the kind of movie you watch with your familly on a saturday night. It's great, but it's better the first time of watching it than the second. Some movies have a cult following. You can watch them again and again. This movie might have done that, but I just don't know why it's not as enjoyable the second time AT ALL.
