Summary: One of Hollywood's Top Sci-Fi Films
Review: Director David Twohy has followed up a very good sci-fi film (THE ARRIVAL) with a great one. I'm not an action fan or a sci-fi fan in the least (I prefer a good foreign flick), but PITCH BLACK is as honest and artistic as anything else released this year. The movie is engaging on all levels, and has the unique ability to constantly surprise. In an age where 90% of action films go on autopilot, this is a movie that has put thought and originality into all levels of production. The visuals are stunning, and I'm not talking just about the special effects. Twohy uses an array of lenses and filters to create some beautiful and stunning landscapes. He also pays careful attention to the use of sound. Because a good portion of the film transpires in, well, pitch black, the sound design is important. The aliens' sonar is haunting and frightening, and those of you with surround sound systems will relish the grueling use of the rear channel speakers. A superb piece of entertainment, and one of the very best science fiction films since ALIEN.

Summary: Its been done before and done better....ever hear of Alien?
Review: Pitch Black is a good movie, but really it's just a jumble of a bunch of sci-fi movies thrown together. It is a good movie, Vin Diesel is great and some of the coloring and cinematography is really inspired. There are also good visual effects which lend to the overall glossy sheen of the films appearance. My only problem is that Pitch Black does not break any new ground as a sci-fi adventure, it is well done but shamelessly copies aspects of other sci-fi movies like how the light harms the aliens. Its pretty much a given that most of the cast is dead weight(literally) from the beginning, leaving only the strongest to survive. I would recommend renting it, but only hardcore sci-fi buffs should buy it.

Summary: Good movie, not many extras
Review: The unrated version of this movie only has an additional three minutes of footage, but it actually seems to have even less than that. There were basically just little segments throughout the movie that were extended by a few seconds, just to add that little bit more blood and gore. Didn't really add anything, nor did it take anything away. The extras consist of a couple commentary tracks, lame making of featurette, trailers, web links, etc. Not a lot, but my standards seem to be getting higher. The movie itself is a good sci-fi horror flick. I particularly love the opening sequence when the ship crashed on the planet. Those special effects were awesome. If you haven't seen this movie, I would rent the dvd before you buy it, just to make sure you like it, but if you like sci-fi this is a good film to add to your collection.

Summary: Awesome
Review: I've heard people gripe that this movie is a rip off on Alien but I can't see how--there are no guns, no alien-hybrids, no talking robots. And that just makes the plot that much stronger because the characters are more plausable, their situation easier to understand. And of course there's Riddick and Frye, two dynamic characters that are a joy to watch! Frye appeals because she isn't perfect; you are drawn into her struggle. And Riddick is fabulous--it's so refreshing to have somebody to cheer for. And personally I was pleased to get away from the over-used Hollywood superstars and the folks from all those teen-flicks. I'm definitely going to be on the lookout for more from Radha Mitchell! There's so little you know about Riddick, and just like Frye he keeps changing, adapting, growing throughout the movie. I admit that Frye's death at the end is not the best move but the fact remains that by this point you're so attached to Riddick you're at least releived to see him get out okay. And don't get me started on Vin Diesel--he puts in a show stopping performance, no matter how mysterious his charcater's background may be he's funny, scary, and complex all at the same time. And he's got a really cute smile to go with it. I would recommend this movie to anyone--it's entertaining, refreshing, and of course Vin Diesel is gorgeous so you can't go wrong!

Summary: great special effects
Review: I just now saw this movie and I thought it was ok but it needed more suspense and a better climax. The special effects were spectacaler and it should win some awards. The plot was pretty simple and stupid and the acting was allright but all an all it was a good sci fi flick with some scares and a great opening action scene.

Summary: Best Sci-Fi/Horror so far 2000
Review: This is one of the most original sci-fi or horror film I have seen in a long time besides Final Destination. Other than that, it has been a few years since a better one. The main character guy has the coolest eyes where he can see in total darkness and they have this great shine to them. He plays a prisoner who decides that he will help the people so he can be freed when a total eclipse comes, there is complete darkness and some aliens probobly right out of Starship Troopers comes to destroy them. Great movie with some of the coolest scenes ever. A definite buy for fans of the genre. You won't regret at least renting this one. Excellent! 9/10!

Summary: Very good movie, Suspensful the whole way through
Review: This was a very interesting movie and unlike many movie titles out these days it was original. I do not want to ruin the outcome, but I am pretty sure you will be satisfied with the storyline and the outcome. The beginning of the movie was kind of cheesy but that quickly faded as the movie progressed. I can't say that much about it, because I feel that you will get the full effect if you see it for yourself. I am definetely considering purchasing this title on DVD.

Summary: Not bad, not good.
Review: Bad beginning, good middle, bad ending. The start of this movie had me looking at the clock wondering how much more of the 1 hour and 48 minutes I had left. By the middle, I was drawn in by the interesting main characters (the captain and the prisoner), only to be turned away by the desperate attempt at a suspensful ending. What turned me off the most was the needless death of one of the only two characters that you were able to develope any sort of feeling for.

Final Verdict: Ok, if desperate to see a movie.
