Summary: Why Matthew Broderick?
Review: This movie was a technological marvel! But why on earth did they go and ruin this awsome film with Matthew Broderick? He is such a dork! Why not get Richard Simmons to play the lead role? I mean... come on. Godzilla would roll over in his grave if he knew!

Anyhow, if you can find a way to ignore Matthew Broderick, which is extremely hard to do, you may actually enjoy this film.

Summary: Force of Nature
Review: The one important thing that the producers of GODZILLA failed to address in the film is that Godzilla is supposed to be a force of nature. The original and all the other japanese versions always addressed that fact and all involved in this American version completely missed the point. These were the makers of ID4 who went all out to destroy the world. Instead of destroying New York City, Godzilla is basically running loose like an unchained dog. The premise is set up well, if not predictably, with just a slight hint of anti-nuclear message. Also, all the characters are conventional from Matthew Broderick's scientist Dr. Niko Tatopoulos (many thought he was miscast), to Jean Reno as the French Gov Agent (who thinks he can pass as an American by chewing some gum). There is the lame sub-plot of news reporter Audrey Timmonds (Maria Pitillo), being the ex-girlfriend of Tatopoulos/Broderick for sake of a love story. The humor does not fit in with the subject matter (i.e. what's the idea of having characters who look and have the names of Siskel and Ebert doing in the film?). The CGI is seamless a'la JURASSIC PARK (as all the baby Godzilla's look and act like 'raptors')but the creature itself (Godzilla) has no personality whatsoever. Overall, a forgettable movie with high production values and a decent cast, but in its final execution, fails miserably. Somehow the original movies with the guys in the rubber suits don't seem as bad.

Summary: Far from great, but not THAT bad
Review: "Godzilla" is one of those movies where you're better off just watching it for the special effects rather than for the script, story or plot. And the special effects ARE good although nothing groundbreaking. Matthew Broderick seems miscast for this role but he does a fairly credible job with the lousy script. After all, an actor can only carry a movie so far if the script and plot fall flat on their face.

But I have to admit that I sort of liked this movie, SORT OF. No, I'm not claiming that it's great or a must-see. But for those of you who appreciate good special effects and cheap thrills it might be worth at least a rental. Just remember to put your brain on neutral and don't expect that much.

Summary: Is that Thunder or Footsteps?
Review: It's been almost six years since this film came out back in 1998. I can remember the very first TV Spot on television around New Years. As a HUGE Godzilla fan I was excited to say the least. And I must tell you, when it finally came out I wasn't dissapointed, and to this day I still feel the same way.

It's a darn shame that this film gets blasted like it does.

There are a couple of main issues critics and Godzilla fans have with the film. The story and the monster itself, 'Godzilla'.

If you look back at all of the original Japanese Godzilla flicks, you aren't going to find a great (not to mention BELIEVABLE) story or plot. I realize this, even being a fan of all things Godzilla. Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich's 'Godzilla' atleast, in my opinion, had the audience believing what was going on up on the screen. The story may not be 'The Godfather', but c'mon, this is a giant monster movie!

And what was wrong with the new Godzilla look? Nothing. If you get two action figures, one being a model of the original Godzilla from the Japanese series and a model of the new American Godzilla and put them side by side you will find differences but both are remarkably alike in alot of ways. They both have the spikes, gigantic size, and have that famous roar. The major differences being the skin color, face, and longer legs. I loath it when people bring up how they shouldn't have changed Godzilla's look. I mean, I love the old Godzilla look, it may be silly to some, but to me it's still cool. But it would NOT have worked for this film at ALL. If they had made the American version with a man in a suit and had him flying around on his tail kicking monsters, it would have ended up being viewed as something to laugh at here in the U.S.

What the American 'Godzilla' brings us is a believable monster that has the spirit and characteristics of the original.
It's just more realistic. Shouldn't we have expected that? It's something the creators of the original attempted at doing but were limited to rubber suits. It's something the Japanese audience and G-Fans accept, but the majority of the American audience will not. It's sad that most Godzilla fans and critics do not understand this.

I personally believe that the majority of the general audience ENJOYED this film. It's just the critical lambasting from G Fans and Critics that got alot of attention and therefore this gets labeled as a 'bad' film. It's sad really.

This is one of my favorite DVD's to plug in. It's Big, Loud, and Fun. And although we've had lots of great films with tons of Special Effects since this film came out, there's nothing quite like it.

The direction and cinematography are superb and the score by David Arnold is highly memorable.

There are lots of special features including all of the trailers.

So take a look at it, be open and I'm sure you will enjoy the fantastic pop-corn entertainment known as "GODZILLA".

Review: This movis is awful to put it mildly!!It should not even be called godzilla. Let's take a look at him. He's an overgrown iguana made by a french h-bomb. I mean he was running wildly away from some little helicopters shooting bullets!This movie is a dissapointment to us G Fans!!

Summary: Godzilla vs. Hollywood
Review: Godzilla was born in the heart of a nuclear blast, a terror of mankinds own creation come back to unleash the fury of a nature plagued by the disease called humanity. Only one thing could destroy the monster, another terror of mankind's hands, the Oxygen Destroyer. As a terror greater than Godzilla himself comsumed the monster, it let out one more terrible screech and the flesh was melted from his bones.

Godzilla spawned 27, soon to be 28 sequels, and plenty of spin-offs. All of those sequels were great in there own respects. Older folks probably grew up watching "King Kong vs. Godzilla" and "Destroy all Monsters," and many of the "Showa" series starting in 1954 and ending in 1975.

However, in 1998, a remake of the original film was made in America. Godzilla 1998, commonly known among fans as GINO (Godzilla In Name Only) was absolutely horrible for a Godzilla film. The monster who is the main event doesn't look, act, or remind me in the slightest way of the Godzilla we all know and love. GINO has great SFX, sure, but the FX are nothing but a cheap way for getting us to "Oooh and "Aaah" our way into buying that the movie is actually good. This film doesn't deserve the title of Godzilla, and should not even be considered a Godzilla film. The ONLY reason I gave this movie two stars was because of the fact that it was a generally good monster movie, even though it was terrible compared to most Godzilla films (with some exceptions such as "Godzilla's Revenge" and "Godzilla vs. Megalon")

Summary: Endless
Review: This version of the well known Godzilla story has one advantage over many of its predecessors; its special effects. Godzilla looks like a living creature as opposed to a puppet, and the look of the movie makes a lot of difference.
However, other than its digital Godzilla, this movie has little to recommend it. The characters are not especially likable; Nick Tatopolous (Matthew Broderick) is unrealistic as the scientist that saves the world; the love interest, Audrey, adds nothing to the movie. Other characters (the head of the army, the mayor of NYC, "Animal" the cameraman) are also badly cast, played, and/or written.
Perhaps the biggest failing of Godzilla, though, is its length. First Godzilla must be defeated; doing so takes at least an hour and a half. After which, Godzilla's hundreds of raptor like offspring must be blown up and lastly, the resurrected Godzilla must be destroyed once again. After each victory viewers are cheering for the end of the movie; twice they are let down before the movie finally, after over two and a half hours, comes to an unsatisfying close.
Filled with rain, explosions, lizards, and the destruction of NYC, Godzilla is a good flick for hard-core action fans who love the Great Green Reptile, aka Godzilla himself. But for the rest of us, its a poorly made take on an overused idea.

Summary: Loved IT!
Review: Ok Ok Most people who saw this Gozilla thought it sucked. I think it didn't though. The reason most people don't like this Godzilla is because Godzilla doesn't have an enemy to face plus the raptors and there being 2 Godzilla's (or at least that's what I think). But I loved it because it took place in New York instead of always being in Japan, Godzilla just being himself, the mouths of the people actually going with the words, and a good cast.

I was like Tyranosarus Rex with Spikes what the hell happen to Godzilla.Then from then on the movie sucked.People rate this as 5 stating that its better then a moth showing up and better then those cheesy flicks??? OK I guess I mean it seems some of these people never saw godzilla movies and mean I dont blame them but how you going to compare with new technology then old technology
of course the new is going to be better.Special effects are good I have to say but not Godzilla.You got little godzilla bastards running around like wannabe Raptors trying to kill people?Im telling If you a G fan this movie was not so hot if you want to buy it I suggest you Buy Jurassic Park cus you will see alot more
of dinosaurs then this movie.
