Summary: "This is good." "We've had good before." "This is better!"
Review: ...

"BETTER THAN THE ORIGINAL! The original was excellent, but this one was POWER-HOUSE ACTION ADVENTURE! Granted, the effects may have needed some work on the realism of the Scorpion King in the end- but THERE WAS A LOT MORE ACTION IN THIS F/X FILLED EXTRAVAGANZA! FORGET THE CRITICS -again- ON +MUMMY RETURNS+ AND SEE IT WHILE YOU STILL CAN IN SELECT THEATERS! Buy it on DVD/VHS when it comes out to video! IT IS A GUARANTEED ADVENTROUS THRILL SEEKER! IF YOU LIKED "THE MUMMY (1999)", THEN YOU WILL FALL IN LOVE WITH THIS FUN FILLED THRILL RIDE!"...

Summary: worth buying on video
Review: This movie is definitely worth buying. I saw it 3 times in the theaters, and plan to preorder it off of amazon.com, even though it doesn't come out until OCTOBER SECOND!!! Why they're taking that long, I don't know, but I wish they wouldn't. Wonderfully written, though I wish there were more scenes of The Rock. But hey, Oded Fehr looks better and has a much bigger role in this movie. I can't stand mushy scenes (like in Pearl Harbor), but the ones in this movie were short and didn't last very long. Hope you all enjoy this movie as much as I did.

Summary: Loved this movie
Review: I personally loved this movie. Though it did have quite a bit of action, there were a lot of things in this movie that explained things from the last movie. I found that the reincarnation twist with Evelyn was very interesting. Though there didn't seem to be much character development, I have to say, wasn't that already done in the first movie? Most of the characters in this movie were recurring. There was only one person in this film who was truly significant and was not in the first film, and that is the young boy, Alex. Alex is a small child and didn't seem to have as much significance as Anuk-sun-amun, the Mummy's dead girlfriend. In the first film, she was one character that I really wanted to know more about, but she was never fully explained. I was very pleased when I found her to be a more significant character with an actual history to her in the second film. For anyone who loves Egyptian myths and lots of action, this is a great movie to see!

Summary: See "The Mummy" first...
Review: To put it simply, this is a great movie! The Mummy Returns is a fast-paced, action-packed, thrill ride with great special effects and an exciting story that will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole time. One very important piece of advice...for anyone who hasn't seen the first movie...please watch IT before trying to engulf yourself in its sequel. The writers wasted no time at all in throwing the viewer into the action. There is no time for introduction of all the marvelous characters in this story so you'd better be familiar with the "Mummy's" history before you try to see this. My wife and I loved the first movie, and purchased it on video the first day of release. Now that we have a DVD player we are hoping they will release a boxed set so we can purchase them both together. This one is a definate buy...

Summary: Entertaining!
Review: I hadn't liked the first Mummy movie when I had first seen it. I thought I was entering a serious movie, and I was instead greeted with a movie that made fun of it's genre, much like the Scream movies.

So, I entered the second movie expecting an exaggerated version of the first.

I wasn't disappointed.

The movie is incredibly fun. And now that I'm used to the odd sense of humor, I laughed a lot. The biggest joke though is the movie itself: I doesn't stop. It's starts with big noises, battles, non-stop action, continues that way, and ends like that, just ignoring the entire story. The entire philosophy is insanely hilarious.

The fights (which means the entire movie) are well shot. Stephen Sommers, in my opinion, is gearing up to be the best action director in Hollywood since James Cameron.

There is only one disapointment: The special effects. Some of them aren't well done, espacially the Scorpion King, whom I wish just was The Rock by himself, instead of a mutated version of him. I wish ILM had given more effort to this then to Pearl Harbor. Would have paid out more.

Of course, this isn't a good movie. It lacks a plot, and a well-done narrative drive, just for starters. But it is fun, very fun, in fact the most fun I had since Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow.

Go and relax. This is Hollywood entertainment, not the best, but fun nonetheless.

Summary: A very enjoyable sequel
Review: This movie holds up well as a sequel to the first "popcorn" movie. I've seen it twice in the theater and plan to buy the DVD as well. There are plenty of reviews here to tell you what the movie is about so I won't reiterate. I'll just add my voice (and stars) to those who also believe it's a thoroughly entertaining ride and I disagree entirely with many of the criticisms below. What did these folks think they were going to the theater to see anyhow? Let's rate movies based on their own merit and not some high-minded notion of social redemption or academy award potential.

Summary: Awesome Movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: I loved this movie and went to see it 2 times. It was even better than the first one and it was a perfect sequel. I must say that what made it really good was the sad, but surprising part near the end, I won't say anything for those who haven't seen it. Jonathan was soooooo funny. I hope they make another!

Summary: Better off dead.
Review: Unwanted sequel to the worst mummy movie ever made . . . which makes *The Mummy Returns* the worst-worst mummy movie ever made, I suppose. But then, that's no surprise. The astounding (and puzzling) success of the first film guaranteed a sequel, and you can bet the filmmakers felt they had a "mandate" to "top" the other one, meaning: more noise, more preposterous CGI (the pygmy-mummies are, I think, a new low) . . . and, in inverse ratio, LESS credible situations, LESS characterization, etc. I know I'm a voice in the wilderness in this new "culture", which seeks from their cinema entertainment the rough approximate of a roller-coaster ride at Six Flags. I realize the relentless assault of hypnotizing electronic distractions (i.e., video games and such) has made patience obsolete for the kids of today. (I'm referring to the patience requried to sit still and let a story and characters develop.) I understand, believe me, that the old (and therefore useless) art of storytelling is no longer necessary. But I still say that escapist entertainment doesn't have to be so unbelievably stupid, as it is in this movie. The only things I found to be remotely engaging in *The Mummy Returns* were two actors: first, the guy who plays Brendan Fraser's warrior-friend (the one who looks like Cat Stevens), if only because he gets to speak the only good line in the movie: "You have started a chain reaction that could bring about the next apocalypse!" Second, the Mummy's evil girlfriend (name?), who is totally hot. But the presence of Fraser's and Rachel Weisz's "son", portrayed by a child actor who is so annoying that it's almost beyond belief, prevents me from raising my rating from 1 star to 2 stars.

Summary: It was pretty cool
Review: Well, it was not as good as the first one. The story in the first movie was much better and the whole feel of the first movie was much more ominous. It was not hard to get pulled into the first movie. I found myself wondering what went wrong in the Mummy Returns. The hype of Duane (The Rock) Johnson as the Scorpion King feel flat. The previews clearly gave the impression that the Scorpion King had a much larger part than he really did. I can only hope that the spin off movie, The Scorpion King, will be much better. I will buy this movie when it is released, but I really was dissapointed that the magic from the first was lost. They were putting too much effort into this film.
